The use of "pow" when referring to powder ... Especially as in reality in most situations it is just plain old "fresh snow"..ski apps and people going on about how they hit 80 mph whilst in the British tuck on blue 8.... Impatient "ill be responsible mum" lift sharers who just smack everyone on the head with the bar when you've only just got on it... Folie Douce and other poo-poo bars on the mountain polluting up the serenity at midday... Go skiing then apres .... Fur ... Extreme faffers

Not all, but if you prop the bar up mid-mountain and then pick up a good speed, you could well get a spare at the bottom…

The "awesome pow pow" thing can be blamed, at least partly, on certain guides and instructors telling clients that they've just skied "awesome pow pow", because A) that's what the punter wants to hear and B) might give a more generous tip and positive reviews.

For me it is the assumption that no-one on the mountain, other then the idiots I am sharing the chairlift with, speak English.
Always good to hear a rant about something or another and then, as the bar comes up, wish them a good day's skiing!

People who answer corporate phone calls with their loud corporate accent ‘no, I’m not in the office this week, I’m in Val d’isere’. Yep you and everyone else in Val d’isere.
(Applies to any ski resort, but I’ve heard it more there than other areas I’ve been)

I don’t get why people want to avoid buses so much. My dream ski area would be 4 to 5 smallish areas (30k) linked by an efficient free bus. In a large ski area you have to ski the same runs again and again, and they are almost inevitably the worst runs in the resort, and crowded as everyone else has to ski them. Much better to know you only have one day in an area, learn it and ski the best runs knowing you have to make the most of it.

I hate busses if there is a way to ski to the other spot, I also hate them I case I miss the last one back . In a large area if it's a good one there are usually some long challenging runs that can interconnect with lifts to others, mind you interlinked resorts with gondolas or chairlifts are my favourite. If we travel between resorts we rather drive than faff with the bus.

Spring skiing. And people who rave about it.
Honestly guys, ice in the morning, slushy porridge in the afternoon and for just about 1/2 hour in between, depending on which way the slope is facing, if you are really lucky, the elusive spring yawn...sorry, corn.

Having said all of that last night, I’ve just been in my local branch of Aldi and witnessed exactly the same sort of behavior. Mrs 6’s six-pennyworth, FWIW, is that she cannot understand those who go on a weeks ski-ing holiday and only ski for one or two mornings (excluding those with injuries, of course). Each to their own, I suppose.

@bryan6, when I was beholden to annual leave and the like, I could never understand people that took just the one-week skiing and yet took a two weeks holiday in the summer.
But that was one I was young free and single etc
I blew a fair % of my leave on one two-weeker and then an additional week.

I feel compelled to say that I've always gone with the advice I've received on this forum when choosing a new ski resort and posting a question (Chinaillon, Les Saisies, Morillon Les Esserts......and probably Val T next year at Easter over Les M thanks to all the different perspectives!). Thanks to those of you (some of you may know who you are....)

On a more tangible link of things I don't get about people 'going' skiing is Flexiplus (note: not here to offend anyone who does this!).
Personally I can't see the point of paying double with very little gain. We go over to France twice a year in peak periods (kids!) and usually get through just as quickly. When we came back from France this year in Feb half term, we got put on an earlier train (we scraped in with an hour to go until our train, as is required) and then got directed pretty much to the front of a new set of border control booths that had just opened (much to the chagrin of other drivers including FP ones who were in the 'snake queue').
Outbound, after check in, I can't think of anything more than getting on the train and crossing asap for the 'overseas' part to commence. Certainly not stopping in some lounge for snacks - probably helps that I don't really like sandwiches?
Maybe I'm just not a laid back person who just wants to rock up whenever.....and I am quite a planner. But even when we've missed our assigned train, we're on the next as standard.

I agree that the advice on ski resorts is excellent here, and I contribute when I can.
But the bit that is irritating is when the list of "must haves" are ridiculous and incompatible. E.g. - green slopes everywhere, snow-sure, low altitude, winter ambiance with snow in the village, chocolate box village, in France, no queues at half-term, and cheap!
Or questions that are so simple that the quickest of google searches would get the answer.

Last year when driving back to UK at the beginning of Sept, we arrived at Europoort about 30 mins before boarding started, it was a nice day so we were just standing in the sun stretching our legs after the long drive. All these cars started driving past with different coloured window passes, turns out they were VIP passes… we only knew that because when boarding opened all the Non-VIP cars (incl us) were allowed on first so I got a glimpse of their passes…Much hand waving and gesticulation from the VIP vehicles ensued. That cost them some extra ££ only to set sail at the same time because there’s only one ship a day to Hull. Don’t get it.

@Extremophile, Is it possible that it is last on first off? What the "VIP" pass buys you is a much quicker getaway at the other end? That would make sense to me, as you say everyone will depart at the same time so the real opportunity for benefit is to be on your onward journey more quickly and smoothly.

Ski-in/Ski-out right onto/off the piste as an absolute primary requirement.
I once offered our apartment in the 4 Vallées for free to a good friend. "Is it ski-in/ski-out?" he asked, to which I replied that no, it wasn't, but just an 8 minute walk to/from, on the flat. He'd also have access to the owners' cave as well with lots of useful stuff in it. No thanks, he said, it had to be ski-in/ski-out.
I can see it as a preference, all other things being equal, bit often it means compromising on other things like nearness to facilities, or opting for a resort that's harder to get to/from etc.

Well that ultimately depends on who actually gets to passport control first and how many booths are open. Also, whether that person is actually ready in their car when unloading begins, we’ve driven round VIP cars before because they’ve not show up when called. Also depends whether PnO actually get you disembarked on time, I’ve been stuck with no unloading for ages… still affects everyone. Just don’t get it. I never pay for all those things, seems like a waste of money. Might make 30 mins difference at most if everyone turns up on time and gets unloaded without delay and there are say 2 border booths at least.

I love Easyjet speedyboarding when all the smug people get to speedily board the bus first which is then filled up by plebs who are of course closer to the doors for actually boarding the plane (yes I'm aware that speedy boarding usually comes with other perks like a better seat or more handluggage and that few would buy it for load priority alone).

One team spent a small fortune on taxis, which got them a 17 minute advantage that was completely eroded because the next stage involved getting a ferry that goes one a week, and put everybody in the same boat
