Good news about " ramoneur" boredsurfin ( had to look it up).

Happy Christmas to everyone - looking at thr webcams this morning, it looks as though you should have a wonderful weekend!
A query re Plagne Centre - in the war our favourite ski place was a hotbed of resistance and above Plagne Centre one night there was a huge drop by the RAF of munitions which the locals went up (disguising the marks left in the snow ), carried down and hid in the mines . Not a word leaked out . There is meant to be a memorial to the RAF for doing the drop. Does anyone know exactly where it is ? I’ve heard it’s the car park but don’t don’t have anything more specific - is this the one the chair lift goes over coming up from 1800 towards the Bergerie lift or is it another one ?

Yes agree, have been 3 times and all good. Price wise competitive but a higher standard. Wine list and advice also good if that is your thing.

Indeed it was. Sunny all day, not too hot or cold, and lots of snow. Lot's of fluffy snow to be found close to the pistes

@boulevardier, The memorial is just up from the La Plagne bus station in Plagne Centre its on the edge of the road and overlooks Plagne 1800

Found out the hard way that the bus from moutiers to Champagny doesn't actually start until next weekend, seems bizarre given the slopes are open as of today, I guess they must not think it is financially viable.

@chopkins13, Someone said its being demolished - they took off half the balconies in the summer and boarded it all up. Odd boarding it if its being demolished 'tho
Theres another building behind it being demolished as its foundations are in a Gypsum Strata and it was moving - maybe Christiana is affected as well.

I hope it’s not the HO36 hotel/hostel as I’m stopping there in three weeks…

Anyone got insider knowledge on the glacier télécabine running/not running? Around 2.30 it was shut and the screen at Roche de Mio just said it was shut today (I'm sure I saw it running earlier?) to
I'm quite keen to try out the new everything up there if possible.

Glacier hasn't been open yesterday or today, and it doesn't look like much pisteing has been done up there, so my guess is they're saving it for next week

Apparently it is due to open next Saturday, at least according to one of the lifties in Champagny

Does anyone know about this new imposition of parking charges in Champagny ? It was always a real charm of the place that parking was free and suddenly it’s going to be 80 euros .

Another gorgeous sunny day. Good snow conditions. Calm on the slopes. Warm, isotherme 0° somewhere around 3400-3500m. So it was a catsuit + thin softshell this afternoon at the first day of GS training in La Plagne this winter season.

@skichampcouk, Fair enough, the gondola is sometimes running but there's a big "closed" sign in front of it now I've had a proper look. Must be either testing it or sending staff / materials over (?)
Some very icy conditions going down towards montchavin, came across one of those pistes which looks like a scene from saving private Ryan, littered with people who have fallen over.

Anyone got experience of hiring sledges from Ski Hire shops? We've got Ski hire booked at Belle Plagne Sports II (Skiset) but can't find a way of trying to reserve a couple of sledges for the kids. We arrive Saturday 30th December and will have very disappointed kids if we can't hire some from somewhere! (We're on a transfer so can't stop at shops in valley to purchase either).

Very quiet all round today, even Bellecote. Didn't queue for any lifts. A few pistes still not open and a few lifts Envers, Col de Forcelle and Cretes most notable being closed. Bergerie restaurant only has the 'older' half open.
Rain forecast for tomorrow then a mix of rain and snow until proper snow all day Friday, but each forecast says something different...

The smallest of the Mt Blanc "Hats" has just appeared, quite a nice one with obvious lenticular development. Usually a sign of incoming weather. Personally, I'm holding out for snow tomorrow, at least above 1700m.

Having said that, the clouds above the Mt Blanc summit have just disappeared...

@boredsurfin, there's a better cloud to the left of that one, I think, although I don't think my perspective is the same that you have from your place.

As has been said, it is gorgeous skiing in empty pistes under clear blue sunny skies. We saw no one at all on Pierre Blanche until we got down to the chairlift.
Gets quickly really cold when the sun goes down.
New management and big changes in the restaurant we used to call the Boom-Boom bar, on the piste down to 1800 from 2000. We got lovely gratis hot chocolate there when we snow-shoed there on Friday. Not visited on skis yet
And we've taken the plunge with The Union restaurant - we're going there for lunch Christmas Eve. Anyone else be there?

@Jonpim, might've gone past each other on Pierre Blanche. The edges of the piste were really powdery, whole thing was great wasn't it.
