Today the Austrian government are discussing extending the lockdown. The German government already talking about extending until Easter. The fears are that the British virus mutation is already spreading.
With that in mind the ski areas are discussing closing at the end of the semester holidays in late February as they do not envisage many day trippers after this date.
I guess we just need to make the most of it while it lasts.

It turns out the talk of the “British variant” in Jochberg is just speculation – the samples haven't been sequenced yet, so no one will know until next week. The speculation came about because a number of the patients are British, though it seems that patient-zero of this cluster hasn't been in the UK since October, and the latest arrivals were in mid-December so they could have picked it up locally.

Almost certainly did, as arrivals on the 19th Dec who showed symptoms on the 2nd Jan can't have brought it with them. Then again, if one was infected but asymptomatic, they could have incubated it for 7-10 days and then infected another member of the group, who would have started to show symptoms ~5 days later, which would be about right.
Any bets that the course participants were accommodated in shared rooms, and socialised together? It really does seem a bit daft to have gone ahead with this.

Hang on if there is confidence in who patient zero is and he hasn't been in UK since October then he must have picked it up elsewhere in the preceeding weeks - unless of course he isn't zero and one of the December group is.
Rather makes the prospect of any bashes feel very difficult to impossible.

"Due to the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), travel warnings apply to almost all countries in the world. This does not apply to Australia, Finland, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea and the Vatican as well as Ireland and Uruguay until January 15, 2021.
From January 15, 2021, 00:00 a.m., Australia, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea and the Vatican are excluded from the travel warning. We strongly advise against all unnecessary trips to these countries as well."
I look forward to some clarity. As I read this you can still travel from Ireland to Austria. Seeing as Ireland has a positivity rate higher than the UK that would seem to be a little off. What have the Irish got on the Austrians?

It's been announced on the radio that Ireland has been removed from the "safe" list.
Australia, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea and the Vatican are the only countries on the "safe" list however unnecessary travel is still not recommended.

So Austria will not open up to foreign tourists, France does not look likely to do either, and Italy will probably announce the same tomorrow... That means I should either try a trip to Switzerland, Spain, or just spend the money and vacation to do more skiing over here in Bulgaria, where at least everything works.

Alternatively, bag a trip to Uruguay and then head to Austria. I think that's still allowed.

didn't you already had the virus? why stay at home and live like a prisoner then? I seriously don't see any problem here. There are millions of people who either had the virus, or don't care if they will, and there are tons of businesses on the other side that would be willing to sell them a service. Stopping this is 100% politics in my view and it has nothing to do with neither science, nor what people actually prefer.
Here in Bulgaria we never got a real second lockdown. The only measures are restaurants and gyms being closed since beginning of december (but hotel restaurants working) and online schooling again since beginning of december (with everyone up to 5th grade back to school after christmas). Ski resorts are open, people are travelling, including foreigners (mostly from the balkans) coming to ski here. We went to a resort for new years - hotel was full. So over here the second wave started climbing early October, reached its peak sometime in November (1-2 weeks BEFORE measures were implemented) and is now back to mid-October levels. At the same time Italy and Austria have shut down resorts, hotels, shops and whatever , but they are yet to bring down the second wave. So for me shutting down ski resorts is a political action that has no proven effect on controlling the epidemic.

In Austria the lockdown rules during Christmas were relaxed a little. The 7 day infection figures for Austria increased after Christmas but are on their way down again now.

@boyanr, yes I had the virus and I am not living like a prisoner. However, I am still adhering to all guidelines including working 50/50 from home and at work (in a solo studio), wearing an FFP2 mask on public transport and in ski lifts, observing the night curfew, social distancing, etc.
I might have some degree of short-term immunity, but I'm not aware of any proof that I cannot become reinfected and pass the virus on. Nothing to do with politics, it's about taking responsibility for one's actions.

Where do you get that from? Austria has done extremely well in bringing its infection rate down continuously over the last month.

Has any country in the world got or had the right approach to Covid-19? Sweden, Switzerland and some U.S. states had a very liberal Covid regime. During last Summer the German govt was praised for their handling and application of measures. The U.K. media clearly thinks that the U.K. government has had a muddled approach at best and shouldn't be let anywhere near writing a Covid-19 handbook for future administrations. It could though write a very comprehensive guide called "What not to do".
However, such is the uniqueness of the whole Covid crisis, that all administrations, globally, have had their good and bad days. The U.K. government might now be in the dawn of it's only good day with the roll out of the vaccination programme.
History will, of course, be the final arbiter.

Scroll down to the "7-Tage-Inzidenz". Most regions went up again after Christmas (esp. Salzburg) and the overall Index went slightly up. It only dropped below the lowest level of 148 on 26.12.2020 yesterday (143 on 13.01.2021). Looks like there was a definite break in the trend approx 1 week after the shops were opened up again in Dec and after Christmas.
Just to be clear - this leads me to believe just opening everything up is not the right thing to do.

We complain cos the govt say wear a mask in a shop.
Brits wouldn't accept the proper lockdown measure of France or Spain, and definitely not the methods employed in south Asian countries.
We blame the govt for screwing up the response, whilst telling them it's not their place to tell us what to do and we have free will.*

@holidayloverxx, No test, but you need to complete an online form then its quartine the same as now, somewhere it was recommended to take a printed copy of the for with you.
To me it's a bit academic at the moment as we are not allowed to leave to UK. I have my fingers crossed that we may possibly, hopefully get out for the end of March.
"All travellers arriving in Austria from the UK must fill in a pre-travel online clearance form and quarantine for 10 days upon arrival in Austria. Filling in the online clearance form (which is a declaration that you will stay in quarantine) generates a confirmation of your registration. You must carry this confirmation with you, in either electronic or paper form, when you enter Austria You have the option of taking a self-funded PCR or antigen test after 5 days (the day you arrive in Austria counts as day 0). If your result is negative, you will no longer need to stay in quarantine."

Bit of column A, bit of column B I think for us Brits. Won't lock down properly (although we did the first time before Cummings et al broke the trust in what the government were demanding) and when lockdown is called it's far too late, which also erodes trust that the government know what they're doing.
