Just realised the World Championships actually start whilst I'm in Ski Amadé this year. How cool! Is any of it worth watching, or will it be crowded and inaccessible around Schladming?

queen bodecia, Be a shame not to soak the experience at least one event. Should be able to buy tickets on the day. Will be busy but I think it will be handled quite well as they have the night race each year with 50,000 or so people turning up.

Wow, highly educational snow conditions. Spring like lower down where it's rained, puddles on piste, green grass in valleys. As you move up the mountain you hit the fresh snowline. Towards the top around half a metre of fresh snow, looked so tempting but skiing into it revealed it's true nature. A mix of concrete and porridge. Real leg breaking, knee twisting, head diving snow. The snow came down wet as only just below freezing, plus very windy so windslab on top. Add the bad visibility in and it meant for some exciting moments of skiing. Even on piste there was random snow drift, one of which I skied into or my like dived into head first. Ski patrol had only managed to piste limited amounts of piste so some piste were still covered in 30-50cms of porridge. The piste lower down in the rain zone were actually in top condition, great for carving. Weather clearing at the moment but forecast for more snow over next couple of days. At least the fresh snow has put a decent base down for the off piste once it settles and we get some fresh on top of it.

At Zauchansee today, more snow overnight but again very wet and not much fun off piste, maybe with massive floaty rockers. Cloud and fog in and out so vis awful at times. Back in Schladming now, valleys green, piste still open to valley. Starting to snow again higher up.

Been out skiing this morning, wow, the off piste is skiable again with some decent powder and the piste were in cracking form. Unbelievable difference to the off piste conditions, the last couple of days which have been heavy deep knee breaking cement, today was a top layer of 20cms of a little compacted powder - not champagne but I was very happy with it. Loads of fresh snowfall so cautious where vis is bad as drifts and bear traps all over the place and nothing too steep. Still snowing on and off, rain in valley. Piste to valley still good, but right at the bottom grass to the sides. I'll post some video later.

Samerberg Sue, kooky, we're staying in Almlust (no sniggering at the back there) in the centre of town, next to Hoagascht where we can usually be found in the evenings. I'll have two buddies with me on a boys trip, but if anyone wants to meet up for a morning or evening, I'm sure we'd be interested.

ousekjarr, Almlust apartments? These are on the left-hand side as you drive in, just before the M-Preis. Is there another Almlust location as well? I prefer the Schusterhausal to Hoagascht, better VFM and service in my experience although Hoagascht is still good. Have you tried La Luna just before the Spar, near the Irish Pub? Really good Italian food the last time I was there.

It's a few years since we've been, but we always found Hoagascht was great for a quiet beer after several noisy ones, and the restaurant was good if we wanted to eat there, whereas the Schusterhausl was so small that having a beer there felt like being sat in the middle of someone's kitchen when they were trying to organise a dinner party, but if we wanted to eat the food was excellent.

Scarpa, planning to be out for Easter, but that's into April really - you planning to still be there?
ousekjarr, agreed that Schusterhausl is better for food; I wouldn't just go there for a drink - I prefer the Alter Neuwirt a few doors down. Never tried Hoagascht bar so maybe we can catch you there. PM'd back with my number
