Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

That is because France is currently having its best start to a season for ~60 years.

Still snowing! Mmmm...

Car was clear at 9pm last night.

Looking snowy in Mottaret.

Not much open this morning, but off for a quick scout to see what's what and test a new pair of skis.

rob@rar, See you on the slopes a little later, when things start to open up a bit. Another 23cm of snow overnight at 700m, making about 100cm accumulated in 7 days. It's taken the last hour to clear the car (for the 5th time this week). Still snowing lightly now.

Chinese whispers from Courchevel are that nothing will be open above 1850 today but 1550 lifts will run...

Various acquaintances who work for S3V reported piste machines not able to work due to high avvy risk, pisteurs bailing back off the Saulire until verything settles a bit - all second hand but quite believable with the amounts of snow we've had.

Just got back from VT last night. Route between VT and Les Menuires was fun yesterday Morning. Had a great week but feel sorry for the Pisteurs who are struggling with the difficult constant snow.

A few lifts were open to mid-station in Meribel, but nothing above that. The snow continues to fall, and fortunately not too windy (at least on the lower slopes). Visibility was poor around the middle stations, but runs in to resort were nice as these photos show Happy

Here's one of me.

And here's one of Scott, just. For reference, when he's in wearing skis and a helmet he's about 6 foot 8 inches, so the snow is quite deep wink

Should have mentioned that Meribel gave the first 100 people to turn up at the Mottaret Tourist Office a complimentary lift pass for the day, plus coffee and croissants. So all this, for free. Sweet.

Callum001, I like it. I'd prefer an extra sleeve pocket, and the wrist closure isn't great, but other than that it does the job. Used it in heavy sleet and rain and it kept me dry.

Snow is very light now, almost stopping. Tomorrow's forecast is for blue sky. Be nice if a bit more terrain opened up, as both on-piste and off-piste conditions will be excellent. Here's another photo from today:

Just back for lunch after an excellent morning in VT. Bright sunshine, loads of snow, excellent conditions. Bit windy at the top of the Grand Fond though!

The snow stopped falling and the sun starting shining. What an amazing way to open Meribel's season! Limited opening with nothing above mid-station because of high avalanche risk (5/5), but what was open was in perfect condition. Lovely, grippy, squeaky snow on piste, and light variable snow just off to the sides. The link to Les Menuires slopes was due to open mid-afternoon and you can see that piste preparation continues on the upper slopes, in addition to a bit of blasting to reduce avy risk.

It's begun to cloud over a little bit, and some light snow is forecast for tomorrow. That's nice, but it's not as if we really need it...

Looking good! Looking very good!

I'm spending a week in the 3 Valleys next week (15th-22nd) and would be glad to meet up with any other snowheads in the area if they'd like to for a few hours. I'll be based in Les Menuires but happy to slide over to wherever is convenient.

Could be a candidate for best day of the season already...

The sun came out after seven days of snow

Only lower lifts open in the morning, but Méribel was not too busy. Pistes in great shape and off piste is light and around thigh-deep. Cloud started to build a little from 2pm, about the same time as Tougnette 2 was opened up, giving acces to a whole lot more untracked powder. Avy risk is 4 today. Bumped into SkiMottaret and group at morning coffee.

Light to moderate snow all day, although not amounting to much (at least in comparison to the last week or so), perhaps 10cm to add to the great snow we already have. Links have begun to open up (Courchevel, via Saulire, was open I think, but nothing to Val Thorens/Les Menuires today). Visibility was a bit poor, but all my group made good progress, so smiles were the order of the day Happy

Another low viz, great snow day. Snowed light to moderate up until about 3pm, with occasional gaps in the cloud. Not too cold, not too windy. Piste conditions are generally excellent, and more and more off-piste terrain is becoming lift-served as lifts and run continue to open up. The link to VT opened today, so possible to go across all three valleys if you want.

Spent the first part of the morning on some carving drills, then after coffee short radius turns on steeper terrain. All good fun. Forecast is for a clear day tomorrow Happy

Quick q for those who know this area well...

Is there a way for pedestrians to get over to meribel from st Martin d b? Eg gondolas all the way? I am thinking not.

Also, I would like to put in a request to the local snow gods for it to be clear but not thaw-inducing next week . The snow can stop now.... I know this is blasphemy but I realy don't want my 4 year old to be put off by having to learn in a blizzard Smile

robertsnerys, Gondolas will be only half way. Chairs on the upper halfs.
I guess sometimes chairs can be used by pedestrians, so maybe worth asking the tourist office. Or someone might know here.
