Thanks for the kind welcome. I have enjoyed the chatter. As it stands, Ms. D1 and I will be flying into Lyon on Saturday the 26th arriving at 7:10 am. I have still have to figure out the arrangements to LDA from there. The return is a bit problematic. The affordable flight leaves Lyon for NY at 9:30 am on Saturday July 4th. I do not see any way to realistically get to Lyon leaving LDA that morning in time for such a flight. Hundreds are added for later departures that day. We could leave LDA on Friday and spend the night in Lyon, but, well, and miss a party on the last evening? I think not. Tickets for a Sunday departure are a sold at a premium. So my thought at this point is to travel at our leisure to Lyon on Saturday and spend Saturday and Sunday nights in Lyon, sample more wine, and leave Monday. All, subject, naturally, to "she who must be obeyed." Your kind thoughts? Warm regards, D1

deliberate1, IIRC Rick is flying out early the next week for exactly that reason.... It was more difficult to fly Sunday and Saturday was too early to be practical/enjoyable

deliberate1, I don't know Lyon well, but there are some very interesting old parts to see - well worth a couple of days visit. Sounds a good plan.

I had already crossed out coming, flying to the alps seems not the thing to do from Amsterdam; GVA/easyjet has impossible flight times as well as a pretty hefty remaining transfer to L2A (on top of a pricetag uncomfortably close to driving solo, AMS-GVA is a popular business route)
And I don't feel like driving 700 miles without company (I did it with my brother, who cannot drive, as company in Januari, that was okay)
If anybody would consider joining me from Amsterdam; I may be able reconsider

Another 2 + attendant family members for week 1. Caistor Skier looking at a flight to Lyon for week 2, but not confirmed yet.
Ronald, I keep suggesting options to help you to others - you never know.

holidayloverxx, CaistorSkier is from, you guessed it, Caistor . Airport-wise it's only a stone's throw from Humberside (useless) & Doncaster's only about 40 mins away. However, when we've skied together we've ended up flying from E Mids, Luton, Birmingham, Stansted & Gatwick. She has a sister in Manchester, so that's an option too. It really is a PITA to have to drive past various airports to find one that takes you where you want to go!
I am seeing her tonight - will tell her I have seen your message.

Butterfly, thanks - I don't mind travelling a bit to an airport as long as I can get back to the same one (and as long as Rachel agrees)

holidayloverxx,The flight is Easyjet from Stansted to Lyon at about 1.30 in the afternoon. She wants to make sure she can get to LDA from Lyon! She is not keen to try using SH again - email/phone are the better options for her.

So Ms D1 and I have finalized our trip over The Pond, arriving Lyon on Saturday the 26th at 7:10 am. Does anyone attending the second week plan to fly into or pass by Lyon that day? Would be lovely to connect with folks that early. Cheers.

By the way do y'all speak any French? Non? Quelle horreur!

I'm interested in week 2 - been quoted at £205 by train from London or am willing to split petrol money with anyone who has space. Coming from Scotland so can join pretty much anywhere

andytb, If you can fly from Glasgow to either Grenoble or Lyon that would be favourite and probably cheaper than the train. Also - what about flying to Amsterdam and driving down with Ronald? He's willing to drive if he has company to help with the costs etc. Worth thinking about.
I'll pop into the thread early tomorrow morning and then I'm en route to the UK, so won't be back online until Thurs evening. If anyone has any really urgent questions in the meantime you can get me on my french mobile.

I suspect all Scottish flights to Grenoble & Lyon are seasonal, the only option I'm seeing is going via Dublin on Ryanair. Say no more! Amsterdam is do-able and certainly cheaper than the through train journey. What's Roland's username? I will get in touch and sort something out.
