Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sensational morning in Valfrejus, 50 odd cms light powder on north facing aspects, crusted on south facing, then weather closed in the afternoon. More coming!

As per @Ski Shagger, I am also in the Maurienne this week and can confirm that (once the 5/5 avalanche risk went down a bit) conditions are 'acceptable'...

Conditions continue to be 'OK' in the Haute Maurienne - yesterday the clouds sat just above tree line for most of the day, but that wasn't a problem...

Valloire :

All morning it has been snowing thoroughly at village level. Cosy white resort right now!

Crey du quart and Setaz télécabines are turning, so it's unlike yesterday afternoon where high winds caused most of the domain to close shortly after lunch.

Out towards the Mt Thabor...

Nice morning on Friday with good visibility, but the weather came in (and visibility went) just after lunch.

Heading to Val Cenis today, will post on the changeable conditions during the week. Was going to head up to Bonneval for a day, anyone have a recommendation of a guide there for some light off piste snowboarding?

@offpisteskiing, thanks very much for those tips, I'll check them out.
First day skiing today. A few flakes blowing around last night and this morning had no effect on snow cover. Brown in the valley at lanslebourg but the pistes were all in verygood nick. Off piste is all hard pack. Windy and cold at the top of Met etc but visibility was great. No crowds or queues to speak of. Very happy with the resort so far, looking forward to seeing it with a powder coating.

I've never seen snow falling for so long with so little accumulation. Light snow for the last 24 hours but only 2 cm this morning at village level. It all looks a bit nicer though. On the mountain there's a little more but very uneven due to the wind. Cardinal and Arcelle runs were fantastic and sheltered. Wind from the southwest? means top of ramasse was wild and met was closed.

Been watching the cams and forecast with interest. Could see some snow Saturday if the temps drop a bit.

Great day snowboarding today. About 10cm fresh on average on most runs and off piste although you did often hear the crust beneath. Low cloud for most of the day so kept low in the afternoon around Ramasse. @Boarderfarce, looks like you'll get a good top up.

10 more cm this morning at val cenis, went up to Bonneval to have a look. Amazing place but didn't get to see all it has to offer. Low cloud and high winds meant we never got to the top two lifts, which were closed for most of the day. Loads of powder on and off piste, spent most of the day doing different routes from d'andagne lift including the nice valleys to skier's left after you pass the warning poles. Sun is out now and temperature rising

For those out in Val Cenis now how’s it looking lower down the slopes please? I head over with my family tomorrow and my wife will mainly be sticking to the likes of escargot which I’m guessing may have suffered some rain lower down?

@22fluffysheep, up to last night there had been no rain, it does look a bit damp on the ground now, can't tell if it rained or is just a bit of a thaw. Yesterday afternoon escargot was still perfect up top and a little slushy at the bottom but no problem. The fields around it at pre novel have alternated between brown and white since Mon. The reds at the bottom, essarts and arcellin, have been closed all week. If you're planning to eat out you'll need to book for Sat & Sun, hard to get a table. Hoping for a good Friday now to round off a great week snowHead

Very slight drizzle this morning andhqs got a bit warmer. Went over to termignon and wasted my time on the boardercross before finding the lovely powder between the two drags. Back in the main area in the afternoon, sun finally came out and there was still great snow around the pistes of solert and under the plan cardinal lift.
Bon voyage @Fortycoats, and @Boarderfarce, hope you have as good a week as we had.

Thank you Fortycoats. Looking at the lift map today it’s been showing Ramasse as closed and Pont Des Chèvre says it doesn’t open on Saturdays. How do we get up from Lanslebourg without either of those?

@22fluffysheep, probably too late to help but, if Ramasse was closed it was only temporarily, I was on it Friday morning. As @andmelffion, says, the bus service is very good. Worth getting a pic of the timetables. It runs later on Tues and very late on Thurs

Very wet here in val cenis. Rained heavy all day and will continue all night. Hopefully snow above 2000m. Won't be rushing out in the morning. But will head high and hope for good powder. All this rain down low must mean great snow up high

Thank you, Ramasse was indeed open so no issues in the end. Other than the relentless rain lower down that is, snow was pretty decent up high but wind and clouds didn’t shift. Hoping by early next week conditions have improved!

@offpisteskiing, Some great photos from last season. Thanks.

To all on this thread. Do I want to go to the Maurienne valley week commencing March 15 next year. The hope would be to do some guided off piste. It seems Upguides only do full day guiding which is not ideal for me as I will be travelling from Australia with my wife. I like to be able to ski with her in the afternoons. Any other recommendations for guides that may do 9am to 1pm or thereabouts?

Also do I practically need a car to ski the valley? And is there a night time shuttle between the villages of Val Cenis?

Thanks in advance.
