@Jonpim, 10 days for us... Got the winter tyres put back on yesterday, still searching for sensibly priced -30c screenwash my local supplier only has -5c this year.

Winter tyres were on last week.
Good thinking about correct screen wash, but don't think (hope) it will get quite that cold (and we have covered parking).
Watching weather fanatically . . .

@boredsurfin, Looks incredible. Got to be one of the best starts to the season for quite some time? We’re coming out for New Years week so fingers crossed no warm spells or rain between now and then and we should have some decent conditions!
|
|
|
|
|
|
And looks like there was more snow overnight last night - resort caked in snow from top to bottom! Should be great fun for those able to take advantage of the early opening this weekend.

Especially, chopkins13, now that the latest Meteofrance forecast for La Plagne has lessened the warming and removed the rain

Eurgh - looks like it's raining right up as high as Becoin and Bergerie at the moment - go away rain, come back snow!
Anyone who skied Sat/Sun? How were conditions? Looked great on the Webcams.

We went round to Plagne Centre yesterday and had a couple of hours skiing and the weather was beautiful. Blue skies, good snow and the whole area looked lovely with plenty of snow.
Continued on round to Tignes yesterday evening but it has been raining / sleeting at Tignes le Lac all day today so I assume it will be the same in La Plagne.
Forecast for similar weather tomorrow but should be cooling down on Tuesday night so returning to more snow at resort level on Wednesday and Thursday
The forecast from Friday is for sunny weather and relatively low temperatures so should be a great first week of the season.

@skichampcouk, let's hope it cools down. We arrive on Saturday. Hoping we can ski back down to les coches. Been raining all day and have another 24 hours of rain forecast. At this rate I might be taking my mountain bike instead of skis

@Layne, sounds good. Just worried about the rain tomorrow and the the warm days for the rest of the week which will limit snow making. Hopefully they made enough piles of snow during the cold temps last week

We were also there last year. Was thankful that it was the week before Christmas where the conditions were OK. The rain arrived on our last day when we called it a day after an hour on the slopes. Looks like we won't be as lucky this year. Looking at the cams it's raining all the way upto 2500m this morning.

Does anyone have a link to activities that are scheduled for New Years Eve in the various villages of La Plagne? We're staying in Belle Plagne and hoping there's some fireworks or torch-lit descents etc?

@chopkins13, We are also often based in Belle Plagne, though not until later on in Jan this year - whereabouts are you ?
|

|

|
|
@eblunt, We tend to stay in the Andromede building if we can. First time bringing our kids for the first time this year, hence the New Year’s week trip.

Light snow falling this evening but wont replace the damage from the last 3 days of rain ... But the locals say by this time next week it will be back to normal...
Slightly odd request - Does anyone know a Chimney sweep who operates in the Aime/La Plagne/ Montalbert area? Quentin who has swept our chimney for the last 5 years has 'vanished'. So far we haven't found anyone to come up to Montalbert... I can guarantee at least two jobs up here
|
|

Perhaps Quentin has fallen down a chimney hole and can't get out...
This is a random good read on Swiss chimneysweepers.

@eblunt, we’re in Quartz too 13th -20th Jan for about the 6th time. Definitely our favourite in Belle Plagne

Just booked a last minute train to Champagny to burn my annual leave before it resets in Jan... I just realised this year I will be skiing enough days that a season pass for Paradiski makes sense.
Is this as simple as topping up my existing pass online or do they need proof of address in France or similar?

@Ruswit, Nope just go to skipass la plagne website and give them money and a photo, they aren't fussy who buys them
https://www.skipass-laplagne.com/en/season-passes. €680 for a LP winter season (€330 for 6 day pass) or €780 for all of Paradiski (€369 for 6 day)
You maybe able to simply re charge your existing card, if not there is a small charge for a new card.

I wasn't in the mountains the past week. When I left last friday, snow was at the side of the road in the valley. Today, clearly, that's not the case anymore. There is snow on the trees (the greatest view) and on the side of the road starting from a a couple of hairpin turns under La Roche. The road itself is white from rond point de Bellecôte onwards but easy to drive to Bellecôte. Public parking has also opened here. And my dog has approved the amount and quality of snow tonight (he's not difficult about snow, but he was exceptionally happy rolling around in Bellecôte tonight). It's looking good up here! Glad I missed the rain

Ski de rando/skitour from Bellecôte to the top of Arpette with the dog over lunchtime. Gorgeous weather and snow. Very awesome outing. Tomorrow will probably be a similarly awesome skitour with our dog as well as my partner, who will get here tonight. Due to unforeseeable plot twists in life he won't have his La Plagne season pass this weekend, which really is a very cool opportunity to start the season off with some more regular touring. I received my Paradiski season pass from the ski school last week and the first lift I will use it on will be Blanchets sunday at 9am to go get GS training in

It has indeed been quite a week. The days since arriving have been rain, snow, snow, sun (today).
And cold. Snow cannons were working this morning. A lovely day for snowshoeing.
Glad Montalbert looking so good after all that rain boredsurfin. I thought it might be quite dire.
And best news of all: I can still get into my ski pants!
