Been dry all morning in Peisey, but just started raining heavily. Let's hope the temperatures drop soon

Got quite heavy up at 1950 for a short period, but calmed down again now and I can see the tops of the mountains again. Still a good covering of snowclouds so keeping fingers crossed for more.
Merry Christmas all!

Any good news there?
Reading last season's reports for the same dates makes me very sad

oleksii, not really. It snowed a bit this afternoon, but it didn't amount to much, then has been dry for the rest of the evening. It has just started to snow slightly in the last couple of minutes, but it's still quite mild at 1800m (+1 degree).

rob@rar, is this a usual december in your experience? I'm coming out on 4th and staring to be worried
PS

oleksii, no, this week has been worse than usual, but not as bad as I've experienced it. Having said that, if you're looking to ski on piste there is still plenty of enjoyable skiing to be had. Higher slopes are best, but some of the bottleneck areas are in bad shape. This is my fifth week of the winter and up until a couple of days ago it's been excellent (on piste). It's only in the last two or three days that the Christmas crowds have started to give the snow a beating, and that's only in some areas.
The snow gods give, and the snow gods take. It will be what it will be. Etc, etc.

Let's hope. There was a decent snowfall predicted last Thursday/Friday, but it didn't arrive. This afternoon and evening was forecast to be snowy, but so far nothing of any consequence. A decent fall would be nice, but as I've only got another couple of days skiing in Les Arcs this season it's a little bit academic for me now.

that sounds exactly like it is here, in Les Saisies. It's snowing in a rather pathetic and unconvincing manner, having been dry all evening. I wasn't skiing today but it sounds as though there was a big deterioration in the pistes - they were pretty good till yesterday but 24 hours of foehn wind plus some heavy bouts of rain this morning have done some damage. One of our party was on a chairlift in such torrential rain that the space between the two lenses of his goggles filled up with water and it was sloshing around for ages. Probably ran down off the helmet.

The rain turned to snow and we've had about 5cm down in Peisey, and it's still snowing. Hopefully more higher up.

I was just thinking that was avy blasting I can hear. Sounds really close! And still snow falling steadily. I`d like to think the ski school meeting outside our Chalet will move the kids on quickly and not be so very noisy this morning but I some how doubt it!

Lots of the Arc 2000 bowl was closed this morning while the avy blasting continued. The links over to Arc 1800/1600 opened mid morning, but on my last check the Aguille Rouge sector was still shut. Was -1 in Arc 2000 not long ago, and some snow cannons were on down in 1600 taking advantage of the cold.
Light snow still continuing to fall, and some fun in powder to be had, but the piste areas Rob mentioned that are well worn are still suffering and you soon find the ice and stones below the snow here and there - not helped by the fact that most pistes being closed first thing has forced everyone to wear out the same area. Difficult to spot the untouched snow from any distance as vis/light is poor (as you might expect given the continued snowfall). We still need much more, but it's a start.

Anyone heading here during the next few days I'd recommend bringing old 'rockhoppers' or renting skis/board.

We've had a fantastic morning playing in trees above Vallandry, couldn't be happier.
As has been mentioned, there are rocks below surface on piste, but they are still making snow and a lot of lower runs are closed, which I suspect will be opened next week. It may not be perfect but there will be snow and enough to have a good ski for those here next week.

+3 Boris, a rather brilliant day so far. Pistes tomorrow will be in better shape as the pisteurs have more snow to work with. I'm getting fresh tracks on most runs, and other than a disagreement with a tree it's been a brilliant morning.

Just got back in, some of the more popular runs are still showing areas scraped of snow and icy in areas but runs above 2000 still seem good. The snow is still falling steadily!

Was that taken under the Derby lift just after it opened? looks just like my sister, who was skiing a little bit behind me (we managed to get the first Derby chair of the day as it opened ) |
Yes! There was one person in front of her, wearing light blue pants IIRC. Was that you? I was wearing a navy blue pants and jacket and I think we stopped near each other just at the top of the steeper pitch on that run.

Colder today than it has been for a month (-7 degrees at 1800m currently), and it looks like an awesome day is in store: fresh snow and blue sky. Perfect!

ewanmalone, about 30cm at 1800m I'd say, looking around Arc 1800 last night. A bit more on the upper slopes, especially where wind has blown it into sheltered areas.

ewanmalone, yes, definitely better. Not that conditions were disastrous, but yesterday's snow will hopefully deal with the parts of the pistes which were suffering.

Bar was busy then?!
About twenty friends in 5 familes going out tomorrow, both to 1950 and Peisey; sounds like the weather gods got there just in time.
Given we keep missing you in Les Arcs, we'll try to catch up with you back at Hemel. Safe home.

Had a truly lovely days skiing today up and around 2000, really sad to go home tomorrow. However still managed to find a rock even after yesterdays snow, which sent me on a quite a tumble on the red run, Arandelieres sp?, down from the Varet gondola. Surfaced to find a small French child enquiring if I was OK
Really did not like the look of the blue down from the the Varet gondola, badly scraped in places! And other busy areas were still showing bare ground and/or ice! The resort still needs more snow but I gather more is forecast for Sat afternoon/evening!
Happy skiing to all those headed to Les Arcs,I shall be sorry to leave!
