crazy_skier_jules, Just be sure to set realistic goals and do things you enjoy. I wouldn't worry too much about the gym, instead try to incorporate activity in day-to-day living, e.g. don't take lifts, escalators and the like - walk/climb them instead. On a Saturday morning rather than watching TV/DVDs go out for a stomp around the park. Otherwise do what we do best and find the local slope and hit the kicker for a few hours.
On no account ever feel ashamed for any reason as it's probably the least productive of all human attributes.

yeah i'm in my teens - and i finally have the motivation to get fit - as you can see, I am not! however i ran 2km at the gym on the treadmill yesterday and 1km after school on the road today - mum was really surprised at how early i got back! i gotta admit, the speed i chose to do my first km at the gym was pathetic - i can go faster! and i was pleased with how fast i did the km today!
come on guys, if i can get off my lazy @ss anyone can! |
keep up the good work.. you will start to feel great soon.. also at your age you can get a lot fitter really quickly..

crazy_skier_jules, I will echo what the others have said no need to feel ashamed, you have to start somewhere. Look at what some of the others on the thread have achieved acanno, and Paul Mason, amongst others in quite a short time. Secret is to find something that you actually enjoy doingas you have a better chance of keeping going rather than going for the latest fitness craze.
Well done everyone else.
I managed a couple of jogs a cycle and a couple of gym sessions. This week I will almost certainly do less than this as I have a fair bit of apres ski rehearsal that I am meant to be doing but hope to get out three times for assorted exercises.

T Bar, I think the key is finding something you like but not to do to much of it. I came back from EOSB and lost a stone quite quickly but went to gym too often and got bored / sick of it.
I joined the Fat Class in October and now gym it 2/3 times a week and its much better. Just beware that come 2nd January every gym, pool, fat class will be full - but only for a few weeks. Its amazing how many people join Fat Fighters and come for a week or two then you never see them again.
Obvioulsy skiing is a major incentive for me to lose weight / get fitter but health is the biggest ! Lying in hospital attached to three machines just because of food / drink is madness and it scared the poo poo out of me !

crazy_skier_jules, don't worry - I'm pretty feeble too. I started at the gym about a year ago and on a good week I manage 3 3/4 hour sessions!

Just used the great outdoor gym and gone for a quick 6 1/2 mile cycle around the block, great for getting rid of the xmas tension, my only trouble at this time of year is finding routes that are reasonalbly well lit and not too much traffic. Next week I'll pick up to the 8 mile route in the evenings in traning for the Jan ski hols.

I haven't been to the gym in 12 days - but 9 of those were spent in the Alps. Is that a good enough excuse ?

Paul Mason, Well resurected and congratulations to all who have managed to keep going with some exercise over Christmas. I managed one jog and one gym last week not helped by 'Man Flu' This week I am hoping for four bits of exercise proably three run or cycles and one gym but will not be too upset if I only manage three and then start again in earnest in the New Year.
srobbo, did the gym sessions help in the alps?

T Bar, Yes they certainly made a big difference this year. Skied from 9-4 most days with 1/2 hour lunches, maybe one coffee/vin chaud stop in the afternoon, no tiredness or stiff muscles at all. Sitting in a hot tub in the evening may have helped recovery!.
Struggling this week though, no exercise over Xmas and have been struck a nasty cold / flu.

Just complete the first gym session of the new year, hard work to get motivated today, (might have something to do with the 400 mile drive earlier).
25 mins bike, then 45 mins light weights (partly due to the amount of people in the gym - couldn't get on any other cv equip without queuing)
But feeling a lot better for afterwards

srobbo, yep the gym will be full of part-timers for the next few weeks. Fat Class tonight had 20 new members - I wonder how many of them will be here in February but fat bloke still got slimmer of the week ! A class full of women and a bloke puts them to shame - again !
Three days till my first trip to Austria - I'll see if two stones less makes a difference !!

I just managed a hell of a shoulder session - then finished with lunges, squat jumps, squats and leg presses. Wondering why I am aching like anything today hehehe. Been back on the training for 2 months now so starting to enjoy it again.
