Mooserwirt ApreSki Hits Party 9-11 Dec
Because of the Trouble they had at the last two events. The Mooserwirt it appears is going to operate a zero tolerance policy this year.
There is an English page.

This is actually a good opportunity to spread a clear message here:
We are afraid that in the last couple of years a few “very hilarious” guys didn’t understand what this party is about – particularly about fun, good vibes, singing along, swinging etc. just partying. That’s why we have arranged more security for this year. People who have had too much “preparty”, people who bring their own drinks, people we expect trouble from: - simply put - people like that won`t even get near the MooserWirt. Unfortunately that’s just the way it is…
that's it man, I'm going - I'm just freakin' going
'on the decks' DJ 'the Greek' Papandreou
so cool it actually hurts!

Stanton,
is the resort still likely to open on 2nd Dec? Can they make enough snow to open or does it need some real stuff?

Every season the pistes you ski on are manmade. The Natural snow just fills in the gaps (Off Piste).
Their opening a week later this season presumably to save money. Whatever happens in the first week or two they never have 100% open.

stanton, Are you in St Anton now? My son is there today job hunting. No luck so far as he doesn't speak German - though good retail experience.

Think it is to early for jobs. The locals know exactly how full the town is (Hotels;Chalets,Pensions), info they get from the town chamber of commerce so they know exactly when they are going to need extra help.
German is needed for front of house retail but there are alot of hiring positions where German is not required.
Dont forget the Austrians hire many (thousands) cheap reliable German speaking(non skiing, partying) East & Central Europeans who are just there to WORK so from a business point of view it is a NO BRAINER to them.
They will need help over the Xmas/NY period.
Its not unusual for businesses to get 60+ skibums per day asking for jobs right upto Dec 17th .
Starting week 7th January is a good time to look for the main tourist season (Jan-March). Many businesses clear out the staff that were not upto the job during the Xmas/New Yr probation period.

Hervis Sports are opening a new outlet in St Anton & advertising for a SalesPerson. Maybe worth a shot although it says you need German.

Read in conjunction with your previous post, is this down the the fact you can't have an avalanche without any snow?

Morning all
I am coming to the Alberg in mid jan. Being a a first timer to Austria and more of a regular French alps man I have a question about the weather.
Does the Alberg pick up weather from the West/NW mainly like the western alps - or from the east or a combination?
what patterns am I looking for that will give it a severe pounding!

No expert but NW I think is the prime direction for storms to come from and dump on the west of Austria.
Right now air moving in any direction would be a good start.

West, NorthWest for the big dumps. Look for patterns out in the Atlantic. Keep an eye on the Swiss Weather service.

Just picked up on this thread.
Great photos, stanton, brings back memories!!nozawaonsen, I have a copy of James Riddells book, a first edition no less! As for any lift upgrades, having spoken to local contacts, I believe that the current economic situation will prevent any new investments including the proposed link from Rendl over to Kappl. I agree that any upgrade of the Schlindergratbahn would be problematic for the unload area and an unnecessary increase in the density of skiers on Schlinderkar in particular, which has been groomed in recent years, sacriligeous! Still there's always plenty of alternatives (Hinteresrendl)- that's St Anton for you. Just that you feel it's only matter of time. Maybe the economic situation is helping us there.
Another point, I miss the railway crossing and village centre station, it really gave St. Anton atmosphere and character, lacking in other ski resorts. A roundabout doesn't cut it all, maybe in Milton Keynes.
Anyway, so long as the Mooserwirt remains open!

Agree with you on that. I spent 3 three weeks in a b&b right next to the tracks, the trains would wake me from my beer fuelled slumber. Fernie in Canada has a train line through town, I also stayed very close to that track, the coal trains are much longer in Fernie and they had very very loud horns. Enough, I'm sounding like a train spotter and going off track. Now, who's hid the snow?

Just had my regular morning glance at the St Anton webcams and was shocked to see SNOW
OK so they are blowing it out of a cannon, but its still snow!
Wonder if this is an attempt to prepare for season opening in a fortnight, or just a test of the system?

It's for the season opening. Quick look at them today and from the Gampen camera it looks like there's quite a bit on the lower parts of Osthang already. Just over a week and I'll be there, and if the weather stays like it is it should hopefully make the journey a good one.

DB, thanks for the great shots of powder skiing on Rendl and Albona, brings back memories of winters 2009 and 2010, sadly not 2011. For Jan 2011 in St Anton powder was a bit thin, you'd find more in a Chelsea night club!
