Beautifull sunny weather with some high thin clouds.
It is uncredible how the pistes behave under the current conditions.
The snow is hard packed with icy patches, sometimes ice sheets.
But you can carefully ski nearly everywhere. Most blue runs have enough snow from the canons to make your turns safely.
On several places the snow from outside the pistes have been moved to the pistes.
The snowfall is since a month minimal. Just for Christmas 25 cm and two times 10 and 5 cm in January.
The weather, snow/piste conditions are unchanged.
During midday the temperature at 3000 m was -6 degrees.
The snowforecast says no snowfall for the next 7 days.
Hardly no sunshine today, only in the second half of the afternoon.
Low clouds and some wind in the morning.
Pistes are unchanged and snowcanons are producing big amounts of artificial snow.
This artifical snow is very resistant to erosion as it is twice as dense as natural snow.
So this snow will last longer if temperatures stay below zero.

The sun returned today. A nearly perfect blue sky all day long.
Only in Val Thorens above 2500 meter sometimes moderate winds, that feels real cold.
Most pistes are improved due to the vast amount of cultured snow that has been produced during the last days.

Bad weather with low hanging clouds, wind and icy pistes.
We went by car to the Maurienne Valley to visit Orelle, Valloire and Les Verniers. In Orelle we took the cabine lift that brings you in less then half an hour from 870 meter to 2340 meter and arrives at Plan de Bouchet. In Valloire we saw a lot of beautiful the scultpures en neige and in les Verniers magnificient sculptures en glace.
A beautiful day just like several others we already enjoyed last January.
Total blue sky and temperatures a few degrees below zero.
The piste are covered with hard packed snow, sometimes ice but with everywhere there is enough snow to make your turns savely.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

This day was a replica of yesterday. Sunny, perfect blue sky and less wind.
Sometimes you believe that the current good situation of pistes can last for ever without new snow.
As long as the temperatures stays below zero it will be possible to prepare the pistes with cultered snow over the icy underground.
first jump free , one jump 3 euros, 6 jumps 10 euros , all season 90 euros
A little less briljant day. Some high thin clouds at altitudes between 4000 and 7000 meters covered the sun. So the sunshine was less abundent than the days before.
It is boring, but there is not much new to say about skiing conditions.

The only change is the temperature. It is less cold and at midday the temperature is +3 degrees at 2000 m. A lovely day like we have had so many allready.
For some of tourists it is allready too hot, so they went down in bikinis and swimming suits.
For the third day in a row the TSD St Martin 2 is "en panne".
Skiers staying in St martin de Belleville can make use of a free bus shuttle to Les Menuires.
The piste Jeruzalem, Pramint and Pezolet leading to St Martin were closed.
The weather was nearly the same as yesterday. Piste below 2000 meter were like fondant during the afternoon.
It was a pleasure to ski this day with so few people. That will change tomorrow.
The first week of the French school holidays have been started.
The piste Jeruzalem, Pramint and Pezolet leading to St Martin were closed.
Favourite runs for many snowHeads. Three days is a long time for a lift to be out of action.

It was not as busy as expected. The French School Holidays will start next week and not this week.
The temperature was much higher. I feeled again like Spring, just like a few weeks ago.
The period with low temperatures and sunshine is over and this week will be dry, warm and ....sunshine.
Next snowfall will be, according to the old locals, during full moon. If this true we have to wait untill Friday 18th.
Starting today the lift are 20-30 minutes longer open.

Hopefully this was the hottest day of this week.
More than +10 degrees during the first part of the afternoon at 2000 meters.
Rest of the week will be sunny with slightly lower temperatures, but the zero degree level will stay above 2000 meters.
It was a very sunny and beautifull springlike day. A lot of south oriented pistes suffered under the abudance of the sunrays.
Some of this pistes have been closed due to the lack of snow. But most of the other are not more as hard as before and skiing with care for rocks and brown patches is nearly everywhere possible.
It is 5 degrees colder than yesterday and a little more SW wind.
A strange situation, but pistes seemed to be improved caused by the high temperatures.
There is more loose snow and the icy underground is a bit softer.
Everybody thinks to find the best snow in Val Thorens, but in comparison with the other places in 3-V there is hardly no difference.
The pictures of this Tuesday can be seen at :
The springlike period will extend for another few days.
This cannot stay endless and starting next Sunday/Monday it will change.
Again a very beautifull day with a perfect blue sky.
Great skiing at spring conditions. That means hard pistes in the morning and soft in the afternoon.
Excellent to stay long on the terasses and enjoy the sunshine and your drinks.

Tomorrow seems to be the last day of a long sunny period.
It was very quiet on the pistes during lunchtime. Everybody was sitting on the terasses, the rocks or just in the snow to enjoy the sunshine and having lunch.
In Val Thorens the first day of the competition for the Ski Cross French and Europe Cups started. An exiting skicross on a special piste just left of the TSD Deux Lac.
It was a quiet Saturday. In the morning the same brillant sunshine as before. But in the afternoon high clouds came in as sign of the changing weather.
The Mont Blanc was topped with a cloud and that is good indication for snowfall.
On more and more places, just besides the pistes, the snow is scraped away to replenish the thin ice/snow layer of the pistes
A busy week starts now with the French schoolholidays with the people from the Paris and the Bordeaux region.
This afternoon the finals of the Ski Cross toke place in Val Thorens.
The change of weather goes very slowly. Today it was 2-3 degrees colder, but sun was shining during the whole day.
At the end of the day it was remarkable how the pistes have suffered from the crowds. The piste maintenance personel wil have a lot to do this night to prepare the piste for tomorrow.
The white helicopter was frequently flying in and out the valley and these flights are not for sightseeing purposes.
Thank you so much for uploading these wonderful photos each day to flickr.
The number of photos is just right so "photo overload" doesn't happen !
We have just returned from the 3V and your flickr site will sustain me until my next fix.
Keep posting !

Today was a day with a mixture of clouds and sunshine.
Most pistes are still in a good condition, hard underground with some snow and in the afternoon below 2500 meter they are soft.
The weatherforecast for the coming days is very different and depending on the source.
The return of the winter with snowfall is nearly 100% sure, but how much snow there will fall, differs between 20 and 50 cm.
This afternoon at 2800 meters during a short period very tiny snowflakes came down.
Normally this is non-important event, but after 4 weeks with sunshine it may be mentioned.
Between 1 and 5 o'clock it was snowing at a temperature around zero degrees. However it was very light snowfall and this "micro dump" gave 1 cm snow.
Just enough to give the old snow a fresh white color. The visibility was very poor caused by a dense fog.

The color of the day is grey.
Clouds, mist, haze and very light snowfall and temperatures around freezing point.
The amount of fresh snow is not enough to change to conditions of the pistes.
The next two weeks there will be no reports and pictures.
Tomorrow we will fly from Grenoble to Rotterdam for a "vacation" in the Netherlands.
Transavia was so kind to cancel, with any reason, our flights back on March 1st. They generously offer us without any extra cost flights back to Grenoble on March 3th.
For the rest of the season all flights on Tuesday are cancelled, probably for economical reasons.
