@T Bar, yes - sorry, I didn't make myself clear. The knackered people at the bottom of the Esselet piste are those who have made it along the flat blue.
@Boris, I haven't tried the flat section myself, having been warned off it here on the forum. Thanks for the confirmation

Just to offer an alternative view point… I don't think the Les Bauches is that bad. On skis, if you are ok skating, it's generally fine. You can usually get up enough speed to slide the first km, then skate the second km. It'll never be fine on a board, and if it's busy such that you'll have to stop it'll also be a pain - but on a relatively clear run it's actually quite enjoyable imo!

The 'Union Restaurant' in Montalbert owned by British Chef Phil Howard has made it into The French edition of the Michelin Guide.
It has also been voted the best restaurant in Paradiski. (Details on Instagram)
It is refreshingly expensive...

Sad news today from La Ferme in Peisey Vallandry - the owner died of a cardiac arrest during a fire at the piste side restaurant. Le Dauphiné does not report whether the fire was as a result of the fire or vice versa.

boredsurfin, when you return (16th?) i would be honoured to have lunch with you at the Union Restaurant.
Presumably full military honours for the men, and ball gowns for the ladies.
chocksaway, i don't think i ever ventured as far as La Ferme (La Vache was my limit), so never met this chap - tough if the fire caused the cardiac arrest.
My commiserations to his family. And hope the restaurant not badly damaged.

Just had one of the best meals I’ve probably ever had (and trust me I like my food) at Union in Montalbert. Very relaxed atmosphere and service, attentive waiter and courses delivered with just the right of time between each so as to savour the experience. And the standard of each dish was superb. The salmon cured in beetroot is amazing, as was the soufflé and the tart tatin to round it off. €120 for two including a bottle of wine so far from cheap but worth every penny in my mind.

2019 / 2020
Sad to have to report that the new owners of Les Borselier have made a bit of a rod for their own back in the first couple of weeks. They have introduced waiter only service inside and clearly are having teething problems. Also their new menu is a price band above the previous offering. In addition the day we were there the Plat du Jour was priced at €24.
Unless you have a couple of hours to spare best avoid until they get themselves sorted out ...

We had a late lunch in the Roc des Blanchettes yesterday and it was excellent. A 3 course meal with waiter service for 27 euros on Christmas day is pretty hard to beat, you can also go to the self service section where I think the price is still the same.
I had the Roquefort salad, then steak Frites followed by raspberry tart for pudding, Mrs skichampcouk had onion soup, wild boar stew with crozats then Tarte Tatin.
Both food and service were excellent with one of the best views around, made even better with the complimentary Genepi to top it all off.

Best restaurant I went to in la plage for value and quality. Plat du jour was always excellent, as were the desserts. Lovely terrace too.

BUMP 2021/2022
Thought I might start updating this - please feel free to add your own experiences
Borselier Restaurant Champagny Sector
Changed hands before lockdown tried it December 2019 clearly new owners struggling.
Tried it again today - Obviously decided to go further upmarket, whole terrace now table service, staff in uniforms and lots of them. 11.30am clearly not happy we weren't staying to eat! Small glass cup of Vin Chaud, no orange or cinnamon or sugar €6.00 Small Cafe au lait €6.50. Looked at menu - only 3 snack items amongst them - Croque Monsieur €16.00
The bar inside previously packed with Pisteurs, Patrollers and Instructors etc completely empty!
Toilets exactly as they were...
Shame

Roc Des Blanchettes was consistently great (esp. Plat du Jour) and had decent wine-in-a-jug. And you often got free Genepi with your coffee after you desert. Result!
Le Sauget - Had a vey good Beouf Bourguinon with polenta and melted gruyere one snowy lunchtime (which still makes it onto to dinner table Chez M. Franzer) from time to time + they have chickens on the window ledges outside the toilets, which everyone likes!
I think I went to the Borseliers once, with kids, and there were 0 kids options! Food was OK but lunch for 2 adults & 2 kids was about 120 Euro's as everyone's mains were over 20 each...... Nil Points!
Didn't get over to Montalbert last time but I remember somewhere over there being great.
