Our 5am transfer coach from La Tania has got down without problem, with snow on the road to Moutiers and beyond. Heard the Val T. guests were bussed out last night.

Have not seen this much snow for a long while and still coming down.
Dogs tried to go out and turned round going to have to dig them a path out!
Road is eerily quiet as I suspect many transfers are still digging their cars out!
Lot of blasting going on - think I'll walk to the lift, if it's open!!!!
Check out the cam in our garden on the link below!

About half a metre in Tignes, roads all open but very slow. Chains mandatory from Moutiers/Bourg depending on which site you look at.

Been have a text chat with a couple of friends in La Grave as I'm due to be skiing over there with them tomorrow and road to Bourg will be closed soon, so with Lautaret closed La Grave is in effect cut off!
Ironic thing is that we're spending New Years Eve in LG but skiing wise reckon LG will be closed so they'll come over here.
More traffic now on the road below us and I've just measured new snow in the garden and spot on 50cms!

We left a day or so early to avoid this. Still needed the chains, as it was pretty packed getting into and out of Les Carroz. Home now and had a dry drive on Thursday but yesterday from Reims to Calais was 110km the whole way...yuck.

Now raining in Mellau (690m). Thankfully! We were starting to think it might be snow all the way home.

We can now get out from Tignes but traffic building back from Moutiers to Albertville as folk stop to put chains on to get up to the 3V.

@Weathercam, I am sure I have read somewhere that we are not to move snow from our properties on to the road. Our guy Cedric who clears our drive had the snow before Christmas piled so high on each side on the garden, but we came back one day and he had definitively lowered the level. Who knows where ‘our’ snow went. At the bottom of the front garden between us and our next door neighbours is a triangle space that is earmarked, along with a few others round and about, for the snowplough to dump the snow from the road. We keep the grass in that area cut during the summer.
I think there are quite a few people around who don’t normally pay to have their driveways and entrances cleared who are struggling at the moment.
We do look after Cedric and he will have to endure a piece of my Christmas cake when we get back next week!

@Pamski, we used to pay the cleaning company at the apartments to clear the paths and doorways, but this seems to have stopped and become the sole responsibility of the owners (without seemingly any discussion). The snowplough that does the car park seems to dump most of it at the side of our garden making it impossible to reach our terrace without traipsing the wet dogs through the apartment.

Belleville Valley. (St Martin, les Menuires and Val T)
The alternative “back road” via St Laurent de la Cote is shut up to St Laurent cos of avalanche risk.
An hour ago the news was that the main road up was blocked above Moutiers by a bus. Ugh!
Not sure what the update is on that.
Raining here at 1400m, so on the plus side, the roads may clearing.
Good luck to all of you en route!

Just to say that drivers hour regs are the same across europe and it isn’t just a ‘coach drivers in France’ thing.

At least they issued a statement
We’ve been dumped at the airport by Skiworkd around 30 people missed flights despite the reps saying we would make the check in. Norwegian airlines shut the gate with people still checking in, yet the flight still hasn’t departed, with some people still going through security. Grenoble airport chaos, at least were not stuck in the gridlock

In defence of tour companies, this is the ultimate logistical nightmare in which throwing money at it will not work.

And that’s the main issue we have, as we asked due to the forecast would the transfer leave earlier, no it’s ok was the reply? 1.5 hours earlier and everyone would have made the flight saving the tour operator the cost of booking 30 flights last minute.

@Frosty the Snowman, there are definitely limits on what they can do to minimise disruption. Bringing forward resort departure times might be possible, although that increases the chance of running out of driving hours on the return journey. Improved communication should be a bit easier to manage, which was a frequent cause of complaint the last time we had a snowmageddon on the Saturday of New Year week. But when there is widespread disruption I think the best option is to have your own car so you can decide to leave early or late, avoiding some or all of the chaos.

We're stuck on Crystal's transfer coach somewherr between Bourg St Maurice and Moutiers. The coach picked us up at 6.45 and it's taken 8 hours so far! Information has been very scarce from Crystal and the rep on our coach is about as much use as a chocolate fire grate. Roads are fairly clear of snow but the traffic just seems to be gridlocked everywhere, which no obvious sign on 5h3 cause.
Our flight was due to leave CMF to EMA at 1.15pm, so not sure what happens now.

Due to severe weather in the UK and Europe, and the busy time of year, please allow extra time to travel to your airport these following weeks ✈️

@hd, it's rarely a problem in Austria. Valley level resorts mean no winding up/down access roads. In fact some ski areas are accessible directly from the motorway. Granted it's snowing lightly right now and it's the busiest week of the season. The roads are busy but moving and there are no tales of gridlock or missed flights to report.

No, surely it's whenever a lot of snow coincides with a lot of traffic on the road? This weekend the weather is coming in from the north west, so the northern French Alps are getting hit harder than most on probably the busiest transfer day of the season. The (in)famous Birthday Bash of a few years ago had thousands of people stranded in the Italian Dolomites as that area got hit by the snowmageddon.
