Yes the pistes were in perfect condition Monday. All around Arabba, Corvara, Alta Badia. Quiet too, although likely to be even quieter once weekenders and world cup visitors leave. Fairly sunny morning but increasing cloud after lunch. Temps between -1 and -8 daytime with snow cannons blasting.
Added bonus was Italian equivalent of Red Arrows flying in perfect formation over La Villa.

If you were to wake up in VG or Corvara to half a meter of fresh pow, where would you head? My guess would be to take the Cherz lift and head out to the area between Arraba and Corvara, big area and always seems super quiet.
Any other areas for good powder stashes?

Big precipitation spike on the 27th. Not really needed but it will enhance the cosmetics. A near perfect start to the season . Almost all 1200 kms and over 450 lifts operational in the super dolomiti area by Christmas Day

@Peter S, Rather disappointed to see just 1156km of pistes open today, what are they playing at! Need to get their act together in the Dolomiti Superski!

Cinque Torri, beautiful.
Getting much vicarious pleasure from the posts and webcams - we'll be there in March so save some snow for us!

Talking of Cinque Torri, can you ski there from the Lagazuoi and then ski back from the top of CT? Snow cover was poor for me last time and i had to take a taxi to and from CT...

@shiva_71, Yes we did it all today, cable car up to Lagazuoi skied back down to road crossing, did all Cinque Torri runs then skied all way back to cross road to cable car, all runs open & in perfect condition. Then of course Hidden Valley finishing with horse tow. Glorious weather, never had a better Christmas Day.

Have been here since the 21st, conditions have been fantastic, the best we've experienced for years, no ice, lovely groomed pistes. Staying in Colfosco, and have covered most of the Alta Badia region (only have mornings whilst children in ski school). Our first time skiing in the Dolomites and definitely won't be our last. Tomorrow is our last ski day but lots of snow is forecast so not sure we'll make it out on the slopes with reduced visibility - snowball fights and snowmen-building, I think!

Dolomites season just gets better -- Lots of Snow forecast
Translated text -- dated 26th Dec
"....BELLUNO - In arrival again snow and avalanche risk: the Veneto Region has declared the state of attention . The expected meteorological situation on the regional territory foresees between tomorrow and the morning of Thursday rainfall especially on mountainous and foothill areas, with snow starting from altitude 600/900 meters on the Dolomites and 900/1100 meters on the Pre-Alps and also substantial accumulations over 1000 meters in the Dolomites and over 1400 meters in the Pre-Alps. In order to ensure constant monitoring of the situation and the maximum operational readiness of the Regional Civil Protection System, the decentralized Functional Center of the Veneto Region declared the state of attention due to snowfall from midnight today until 2 pm on Thursday 28 December.
The Center reports that the particularly harsh climate , even after the snowy event, will encourage the formation and persistence of ice by recommending to the managing bodies of the road and railway infrastructures to take every initiative to ensure the functionality and safety of the road system. The avalanche danger will also gradually increase to become marked (grade 3) tomorrow (Wednesday). You may experience spontaneous avalanches of avalanches, mostly of medium size, along the usual routes on the slopes in all the exposures above 15001600 meters, which, in the most exposed situations, may affect the roadway at altitude, particularly on the steps dolomites . Therefore, starting from 10 am tomorrow, Wednesday 27 December, the level of criticality declared for avalanche risk will be orange (early warning) in the subzones affected by increased snow supply (Prealpi vicentine, Prealpi bellunesi, Alpago, southern Dolomites) and yellow ( attention) elsewhere. ...."

It has been been snowing in Colfosco constantly since last night. Lovely to ski on this morning but visibility is now very poor so we stopped after lunch. Anyone coming out in the next week is going to have superb conditions. Shame it's our last day today but we've had a blast. The kids have loved the Dolomites - will definitely be back!

This is one of those times when being in the dry part of the alps sheltered from the west and north actually pays off.
They are able to open all lifts and all slopes hosting tens of thousands of skier days.

Heading to Pozza on Saturday. Forecast was originally one with some sun featuring, not so much now - snow is taking over. First time to the Dolomites and cannot wait; I love Italy.

I’m back for the ninth time in ten years but still love it just as much. Hope you both like your respective first visits. Especially good due to the great conditions. The Val di Fassa area is really nice and quiet. Some nice skiing just around Pozza, Alba and Vigo but also some fantastic skiing further afield. My favourites are Alta Badia, the Great War tour (starting from Arabba and back through the Hidden Valley) and loved both Kronplatz and Cortina on day visits
Have a great time

Arriving in Penia on Saturday with my two mates, who have no idea how good the Dolomites are. My third time and can't wait to sample the food, wine, hospitality, landscape and best piste skiing in the world. Watching the webcams on a daily basis is definitely ski porn!

I think this model points to another snowfall and then a trend towards calmer weather after the 11th. A bit of stability and some decent weather would be welcome from my point of view in the next couple of weeks. they must be saving money on snow making compared to last year

I'm staying in Corvara. Should I get the full dolomiti super ski pass?
|
|
|
|

Alta Badia is a great place in itself (and my favourite) but there’s so much more, so I would always advise a full pass. If you are beginners or don’t like travelling too far then the local area would be fine. I don’t think there’s a massive difference in price as well

Almost certainly yes, the extra €20 or so on a 6-day pass opens up a whole load of terrain that you would likely want to explore...Marmolada, Cinque Torri, WWI tour, Hidden Valley, Sella Ronda, etc.
The only reason you might not is if weather was atrocious and the links were shut all week, you're not confident skiing reds, you're in a group situation with beginners or you just want to potter about locally for some other reason.
