Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

There's a weird FSR app that I downloaded to my phone ages ago. Given that my phone is rarely connected to the internet I find it weird that it keeps sending me messages reminding me to chose my top ten. Weird!

@Kooky, went for the usual suspects I'm afraid! Embarassed

The drone was a disaster, it could have ended so badly. The TV company are going to be in the s**t that's for sure. The FIS technical delegate was not a happy bunny when interviewed by ORF nor was Schröcksi!

Use aerial cameras by all means but make sure they are secure lines. I'm not sure what the aerial shots bring during a technical race though as it flattens the terrain. I'd rather have better placing of static ground cameras so we can see what the feet and skis are doing as the racer tackles the course

I was at a bike race once where the TV drone crashed, fortunately not on the track. These things are bloody lethal. Like Sue says I don't think they add any value to the TV coverage of ski racing. I'm not convinced about them for bike racing either, you can see how close the racing is, but it's very hard to tell which rider/bike is which from above.

Hi sorry, but I couldn't get the app to work at the beginning of the season and remembered how it all fell off at the end of the last one, so thought I'd give it's miss this time...
And then was watching the men's DH from Val, the Ladies DH and the slalom from Madonna and realised I was missing the extra excitement of FSR and Snowheads and how well we used to do with the picks.
Well have a good season, merry christmas and a happy new year.

Thought this was an interesting link (from our World Cup photographer Primoz Jeroncic) answering Ted's somewhat uninformed outburst about the airbag and Mayer's injuries: http://www.dainese.com/eu_en/corporate/content/news_show/identifier/Mayer/

Ted has taking potshots at FIS for many seasons but this time, I think he has ended up looking pretty stupid. His company are also actively looking into and developing similar systems so perhaps his diatribe was so much not an emotional response, as a shot across the bows of a rival product?

@FastCarver74, thanks for your scores

In case you haven't noticed the 'following' table is in a slightly different format in that it is now showing the overall position and a score, which is the average of your best 5 scores and agrees with those I have been showing. (The nonsensical percentage figure has gone)

The table has further tabs that look as though there will be positions and scores for Country and for different race disciplines which are presumably under development

FastCarver74 - overall average - 315.82 - races submitted - 19 - average of 5 best - 381.55 - FSR - 311st
Codyaitch - Amex Skidoos - 308.81 - 24 - 375.95 - 407th
Lynnecha - 304.92 - 21 - 373.60 - 432nd
Dr Che - Almost Paraguayan - 309.80 - 23 - 367.35 - 545th
Kooky - Elanski - 296.95 - 21 - 362.15 - 631st
Briand6868 - Briand6868 - 286.89 - 22 - 358.75 - 696th
Samerberg Sue - Suzy_Proell - 302.42 - 24 - 349.60 - 852nd
Hawkwind - 286.56 - 1421 - 348.35 - 873rd
Queen Bodecia - queenie - 292.40 - 24 - 348.00 - 879th
Davkt - Goingbackwards - 225.09 - 22 - 320.10 - 1,300th

Hopefuls top score for any race is 417 points by Dr Che in the women's slalom at Aspen

There's a men's downhill in Santa Caterina and the women have 2 races in Lienz, a slalom and a GS I think. The Maribor races are looking doubtful though. The Swiss will be missing Villeta and Kueng from their speed team this week, both having problems with bone bruises apparently

The races scheduled for St Anton on the 9th & 10th January have just been cancelled - Ladies DH and Super G. Not enough snow on the lower section to make the race viable. They are looking for another venue &/or alternative dates.

There is snow there right down to the arena at the moment but the pistes are not too wide, so losing one complete run may not be so welcomed by the punters. The World Cup is scheduled to return there next season for a DH and Super-G and an Alpine Combined I think

Quick update -Georg Streitberger will not take part in Tuesday DH. He jarred his back early on in today's training run and has returned home to Austria for treatment.

And Josef Ferstl, the German technical skier is out for the season with a torn ACL.

At this rate the globes will go to the last racers standing at the end of the season! Sad

Happy New a Year Everyone!

Ouch! Had my best and worst result this week - the men's downhill slaughtered me. I should have gone with the training results rather than season form. Innerhofer's run was one of the best things I've seen sine Body Miller rode the netting at Kitzbuhel.

Good luck to all in 2016 and thanks @codyaitch, for all your hard work.

@hawkwind, are you on the book of Farce (aka Facebook)? If you are, I run a group called the Ski World Cup Discussion Group where several of us Admins update as soon as we hear of any injuries or fall outs. I have 5 others helping me whose native languages are German, French, Italian and Slovak. We also have some keen followers of racing with Russian, Ukrainian, Slovenian, Croatian, etc who post any reports they see or hear as well.

Just as an update from there, Brice Roger has to take some time out as a result of his fall in the Santa Caterina race and it is confirmed that Carlo Janka is not going to be doing any GS or technical races for the time being because of persistent back pain.

I use Facebook to stay in contact with all my far-flung family and friends using one post. I also use WhatsApp telephone calls and WiFi to call all over the world for free Toofy Grin

Thanks folks , have the app and on the FB page so ill mess around with it when i can , couple of months on the beaches in Asia so not sure how much my mind will be on the smaller races , although i will try not miss Wengen and Kitsbeul

To be fair i only know the top 7 or 8 athletes in the downhill and GS and thats guesswork/luck and the slalom stuff is mixing the top 10 up a bit as i havent a clue about it , im learning though.
Pleased with this luck im having and beginning to con myself into thinking i know more about the sport Smile

@lynnecha, you had Sara Hector as one of your picks today, she is out for the season. She ruptured her ACL early on (in the USA I think) and is now rehabbing to bring the repaired knee back up to scratch

Guesswork, tell me about it. Although my overall average is better than I thought. It is making me follow the racing more, just a shame I can't watch it (yet!). Loads of injuries this season, I'd be lost without the updates on FB and here.

@queen bodecia, I'm off up the hill tomorrow to watch the first training at Zauchensee so I'll be able to update you after that as well. This Sprint Double format could well be the beginning of the end of the traditional single run Downhill, so I've very mixed feelings about the format.

I'm curious as to which start point they will actually use as it will play a big part whether it is a flattish one or if they build it up to make it a faster one. They are starting somewhere near the Gamskogelhütte and the new lift up to the top of Red 5/6. On Sunday I'm hoping to park my arse somewhere near the big S-bends above the Arena for the Super-G. This will mean driving round to Flachauwinkel and coming in via the Highliner lifts and the Familienabfahrt (Blue1). Hopefully the weather will be kind to us all

Best ever result today! More luck than judgement of course, but our Dave Ryding was definitely worth a punt. I'm not entirely sure how the scoring works but it appears if you pick someone lower down the rankings you get a few extra points. Bonus pig! Obviously it also helps to choose people who don't bin it... wink

@Samerberg Sue, re: Sara Hector I kicked myself when I saw it. I copied the last selection and forgot to take her out! I amended future picks to exclude her but thanks for spotting it.

Re: Sprint Double format, I think it would be a shame if it replaced the traditional downhill. I find the 'do or die' downhill format more interesting as it can throw up some anomalies. It also moves away from the traditional 'beasts' like Kitzbuhel and Wengen. I really hope we don't lose that.
