Looking at booking a week for next Feb (family of 5 with kids - closer to the pistes the better) - Stayed in Bec Rouge this year (fantastic ski-in, ski-out but a bit on the small side), and MMV Altavia last year. Preference for Tignes, but seems to be decent value in Val Claret. Out on a limb now, but 70m+ would be preferred, and not daft money Any recommendations?
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@mullins, There are a lot of 67m2 in the Bec Rouge with 2 bedrooms. Ask any agent, they should be able to help.
Locatignes.com is hand site where local folks advertise their own apts. But it now appears the contract is through airbnb@Enolfa Kerr, Just seen your post, that site is a good one to pick as you can negotiate direct with the owners.
You know it makes sense.

They've also got Tichot running today.

Hundreds of pics of the Aurora in Bourg doing the rounds, that’s one hell of a solar storm.
Even in York with all the ambient light it’s impressive through the eye of an I phone

Taos has priced themselves out for next Feb school hols for me - another 10% increase on this year takes the 2 bed apartment to €4,400 after discounts for school hols - the place is starting to look a little bit ‘well used’ as well. Sad as I’ve been there about 10 times, any other options in Le Lac / Val Claret for a decent apartment I should try out?
@raino, Try Denali ( 3 buildings down the Hill from Taos) it’s 4 seasons old. Lots of different sizes of apts. But no bar or resto. It’s sister Aparthotel is Cap Neige across the road from the school, a couple of years older.
Go back to 00:20 this morning - Wow! The White Paradise turns purple.
Ta for that. The aurora is amazing from about 22.20 on 10th May. It's brilliant watching it developing at 20 minute intervals

Does anyone know if it is possible to book parking in he Le Bec Rouge building direct with the Building Manager?
We have for he last 4 seasons stayed in the same apartment in Le Bec Rouge, booked through AirBnB. The owners helped arrange the car parking. Last season the owners opted to hand management over to a local estate agent and when we went to book this year we were told that there was no car parking. I contacted the owner and they said they can't help.

@FrediKanoute, AIUI parking can be reserved via the Guardienne by the owner of the apt. But it’s all done on a person to person basis. I guess the owner or the agent can’t ’be bovvered’.

In other news the old bubbles from the Vallon Gondola have been seen leaving the Valley through Bourg after the road was ploughed yesterday.
Incredibly, the resort's promotional summer video doesn't even show skiing!
But it does show a lot of things you can do in Tignes in the summer. Good things.

We spent 3 weeks in Tignes last August - weather was quite changeable but we still had a lovely time. Plenty of activities on offer. Hiking, walking, paddleboarding in Lac, fishing in the Chardonnet lakes and, of course, cycling (I went up the Iseran - superb climb). Quick question - there were myriads of Orthodox Jew families / camps when we were there. I'd be fascinated to understand if there is a long-standing tradition for them to visit Tignes - does anyone know?

@franga, on the two occasions we have been out in the summer there have been big parties (from all over Europe). I consulted a Jewish friend of ours, who says it is a common thing. They bring their own chefs, food and cooking kit and take over big blocks in the villages. When you first encounter then they seem a little incongruous. But then I guess garishly dressed skiers and boarders would look incongruous to our forebears in tweeds and gabardine.
You know it makes sense.

@franga, The Orthodox Jews come in force every year. The ones I spoke to were from Chambery where there seems to be a large Jewish community.

We stayed in Bourg SM last August and went up to Les Arcs a fair bit. Lots of Jewish families around up there. Remember it well as my youngest son was into a TikTok character who always screamed Mountain Dew before taking a drink of the said beverage - so we didn't even consider any potential consequences when my son shouted it as we rounded a corner.... who'd have thought it eh?

Interesting - I suspect they would opt for resorts where there is good availability of self-catering accommodation unlike places such as Les Gets / Morzine. Mrs F, a grumpy junior F and I came across a young Jewish family hiking up from Boisses to Le Lac in the middle of the day, in their traditional dress including flat shoes and without any water. The children looked pretty tired. We had a good chat with them - thankfully, they listened to our suggestion to turn back down and use the navette to head back up.

Loads come to Austria, as do Arabs. Why not? Getting away from the intense heat

@franga, There used to be quite a big bunch of them staying in Morzine in the summer. I think they were based at the Viking hotel up on Pleney. They always stood out as the men and older boys were in white shirts and black trousers and the women in longish warm looking skirts and plain blouses with scarves on their heads- while everyone else up there wore shorts and bright colours.
@franga, one of the upmarket hotels in Verbier used to be 100% booked out for orthadox holidays in the summer.
I got chatting and asked why that was.
They must have two kitchens, one dairy and one non dairy.
The hotel must go through a special deep-clean after the normal winter to ensure the non dairy is completely 100% "uncontaminated" and that is expensive.
Thereafter to maintain Kosher takes a lot of knowledge, skills and effort.
For that reason alone there is too much involved for any hotel to do that week to week so a hotel becomes the only hotel in the area and The Destination for orthodox bookings.
They are people just like you or I, a bit of friendly chit-chat goes a long way.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I agree @johnE. There's absolutely loads to do - but it's just very odd that the resort that used to bill itself as Capital of Summer Skiing (it was actually emblazoned on the Grande Motte cable car) doesn't show skiing on the summer video.

I'm not a marketeer, but I think it probable that they understand their market.
If you want to go summer skiing in the northern hemisphere, you probably don't need advertising videos to help you decide where to go.
I would think they're probably just advertising something else to some other demographic.
Even then - and summer glacier snowboarding is something I've done now and then - typically you're not going to do that day after day, or even all day.
And advertising videos don't really help give much of an idea of what to expect summer or winter.
