@codyaitch, I don't think the average best of 5 rule is applied any more is it? I have to say I don't like the new scoring system at all - throws up big numbers and that's it.
I'm losing interest on a variety of levels, but mainly because it is no longer easy to to swap skiers around. The quickest way I've found so far is to delete a racer then add them again in the position I want. I found the click and drag system way, way faster and easier. I know the arrow keys are there, but it is really easy to make mistakes and demote or promote the wrong racer.
I thought the previous interface was better and the scoring system was better, placing the emphasis on the top 10 not just where they ended up - if they weren't top 10 you did not get anything.
I'm also bored with the ladies racing to be honest - speed events will be won by Vonn unless she blows out and technical events will be won by Schiffrin unless she blows out. The only "excitement" as such is by how big a margin. The men's technical races are not much better although the rivalry building between Hirscher and Ligety makes it interesting to see them interact on the podium. Sad that Ted has gone all "ra ra USA" and corporate on the other guys - the camaraderie between Ligety, Hirscher and Neureuther was good to see. I spotted that Ligety was not quite so friendly last season and this year at Sölden, you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. Ted was not even very gracious in victory to be honest and I've the pictures to show it!

It doesn't but I had re-introduced it as means of comparison that we recognise from last year as there isn't much else I in the system

I agree - they appear to have gone in for extra advertising (Ted Ligety again) to fund development but have given up much of the better functionality of the old system.
I have written to ask whether this is the finished article but not heard back yet.

The top couple of places are becoming predictable and I am sure people will drop out of the league

Just a quick update on changes:
Roberto NANI is only racing in the GS at Val d'Isere, his place in the slalom has been given to a newcomer to the World Cup stage , Tommaso SALA
Veronique Hronek (Germany) is out for the season with another ACL rupture of her reconstructed left knee.

@FastCarver74, what races on Monday? There are no races in the World Cup on Monday and FSR only deals with the World Cup races. The next races in the World Cup are next weekend in Val Gardena/Alta Badia for the men and Val d'Isère for the women.

@maggi, I cannot stand the ES UK commentators, so unless it is Emma Carrick-Anderson commentating I switch to ES Germany. They have Frank Wörndl as their commentator who is one cool calm and accurate (unlike the hysterical drivel that pours out of Fellowes' mouth) and unlike Fellowes and Co, did actually compete on the World Cup circuit. I used to like Matt Chilton and John Clarke but they seem to have gone down the Fellowes line more recently. Clarke is (or was a well respected coach) but he has spent too much time in the tiny box with Fellowes and seems now to be a parody of his former excellent analytical self.

Urgent update - Schiffrin is out of today's race according to a Twitter report - fell heavily warming up and hurt her knee. She has gone to the hospital to have it checked out-

Emma Carrick-Anderson is the best by far. She doesn't just describe what she sees, she adds real information and insight. I thought she was great in the Olympics and always enjoy her commentary in Val.
Worst day for me by far - had Shiffren and Ligety to win, had Pinterault as a pick, and left Vonn out thinking I was being clever as she often bombs in GS. Never mind.....
What is ski racing? It's an event where lots of really good skiers turn up from all different skiing nations and Hirscher and Vonn win.
Tomorrows women's slalom is definitely wide open.

I actually had a decent result for once on the Ladies GS. Purely luck and not judgement. Definitely was not expecting the Vonnbot to win...

@stewart woodward, Thanks for that, I'll enjoy her commentaries - where she is recording it from is irrelevant but I suspect she is in a cupboard somewhere judging by her reaction times - same delay as the ES broadcasts. I'm watching the Live ticker as well.
UPDATE; Mika Schiffrin is NOT on the Start List for tomorrow as expected, time to make changes.
BTW Roland Leitinger has an injury as well - a deep cut on his leg that needs stitching. Caused by his own skis apparently

UPDATE: change your picks for tomorrow - Schiffrin is OUT - MCL injury but no idea of how severe. She is flying back to the States for treatment so won't be competing again before Christmas that's for sure!
Looks like the Vonnbot has all the luck and no major competition this season so get used to seeing her on the top step of the podium

Yep, Marco and also Katti Huber are ones who could throw in some surprises this season. I have got them as wild cards, I think under the new scoring there is still more points for a racer outside the top 30 if they get in the top 10. Look out also for Julia Grünwald, local lady and LBs ex training partner from Russbach, we used to call her the Rennsau as she is so completely committed and dedicated to the sport!

@queen bodecia, me too, going to have another shit score today with this new system.
Already lost several skiers from my picks who did not make it into the second run, both on the ladies and the men's races.

@Samerberg Sue, I didn't really know the old system, but I agree the scoring is a bit hard to follow. It seems to be almost based on world cup points, but some weird extra points going on. The percentage thing seems to be an overall score of sorts.
Shame I didn't choose Dave Ryding!!!!!
|
|

Well done to Dave Ryding - really pleased for him. My friend in Sweden tells me that Hector may not have damaged any ligaments as first thought but has torn the cartilage behind her patella. Requires surgery and is out for the season. Don't know if that is correct as I can't translate the Swedish article she sent me!

The new scoring system is much more difficult to follow than the old version which was based on the number of your 10 selections who actually finished in the top ten, with bonus points for getting the actual position correct
I will try to explain the new scoring system as I understand it
The scores are based on World Cup points - 100 for 1st - 80 for 2nd- 60 for third - 50 for 4th - 45 for 5th etc - 40 for 6th - 36 for 7th - 32 for 8th - down to 1 point for 30th.
If your selection scores points you get the lower of the points allocated for their position or the points they would have received if they had finished in the position you had selected - that sounds complicated.
If your selection to finish 1st actually finishes 1st you score 100 points for that skier.
If your selection to finish first actually finishes 5th you score 45 points for that skier.
If your selection to finish 5th actually finishes 1st you get the score for finishing 5th ie 45 points
If your selection to finish 5th actually finishes 5th you get 45 points for that skier - so you don't get any extra points for selecting the exact position the skier finishes
As you only select skiers to finish in the top 10 the above rules only apply if your selection finishes in the top 10
If your selection finishes between 11 and 30 you score their actual points
If they fail to finish - zilch
Hope that helps

A bit more like it in Are GS, 31st overall even though I managed to leave Mika and Sara on my squad somehow, might have blown a top 10 with those 2 boo boos!

Not really sure whether this is worth the effort but I have updated the scores and added the FSR positions and percentages - which I think are based on total scores and the percentage against the highest overall score - all of which is a load of tosh
FastCarver74 - overall average - 324.73 - races submitted - 13 - average of 5 best - 381.05 - FSR 200th - 90%
Dr Che - Almost Paraguayan - 305.09 - 16 - 362.90 - 478th - 76%
Codyaitch - Amex Skidoos - 302.60 - 17 - 362.30 - 395th - 80%
Kooky - Elanski - 303.48 - 913 - 362.15 - 493th - 75%
Lynnecha - 299.95 - 15 - 362.00 - 496th - 75%
Samerberg Sue - Suzy_Proell - 295.94 - 17 - 349.00 - 711th - 64%
Briand6868 - Briand6868 - 283.88 - 15 - 344.75 - 724th - 64%
Hawkwind - 280.27 - 14 - 334.75 - 937th - 53%
Queen Bodecia - queenie - 279.72 - 14 - 327.55 - 1,000th - 48%
Davkt - Goingbackwards - 217.93 - 15 - 320.05 - 1,100th - 45%

I think the FSR fixtures page might have shown the weekends races over 3 days because initially I had the same impression but made my picks early so it wasn't a problem.

Check the Start lists for the races before you lose points for playing injured racers! The list has grown quite a bit recently:
These are today's injury announcements:
Rok Perko - is in hospital in Italy and will not race in Val Gardena/Alta Badia
Giovanni Borsetti, - the young italian racer is in hospital with a suspected ACL injury
Kerstin Nicolussi - is out for the season with a ruptured ACL
Stacey Cook - took a really heavy fall in training, but skied away after the pisteurs had untangled her from the B netting
Mitch Gagnon did not train for the DH part of the combined so she is unlikely to take part in the race tomorrow.
The Start Lists are always posted on the FIS site the evening before a race - the Men's one is up already, Ladies was not yet available for the Combined.
