Spent the day with snowcrazy and livetoski plus the mates staying with me. Crowded resort? bah, we laugh in the face of such claims. Ice? - only in the drinks. No powder left? - oh so wrong. Steep deep and bumpy? - Oh my God yes. And perfect blue sky the whole way.
Stayed mainly in the 2000 bowl: after meeting at top of Arpette, and taking a 'short cut' across to Varet, then went off piste from Arandelieres to Grand Col. Offpiste LHS descent, Offpiste RHS descent, followed by an off-piste route to the top of Marmottes And yes, there was powder. Within 50m of the central pistes in the resort. Not going to claim totally untracked, but not in any way destroyed enough to spoil the pleasure... maybe four or five previous lines. Back up Varet and into the Robert Blanc front via "The Big Drop". That was 'exciting' but an excellent technique improver...
A quick lunch in 2000, then up Lanches, and we stayed above the Aguille Rouge red ( but not through the gate) , again, out of sight of all the hordes. Round the corner, and through the trees/bushes, and bumps fields down past Solliet, we finally had to concede to using a piste, the last few hundred metres of the blue down to Plan des Violletes.
Back up to Droset, which was in gorgeous nick, over to the Deux Tetes run through the rocks, then a quick view of the water slide (not tempted) and then finally over Arpette and down Bois d l'Ours. Which was icing up just as my muscles were giving up, so was hard work.
So apart from pistes natur (which don't count...) I'm guessing a 7 hour ski with no more than 1 km on piste. What a day. What an awesome day. Thanks fellas.

JimW, Sounds like you had a cracking day...
It's amazing what you can find if you know where to look..... and as you say, there is much within spitting distance. Much of it though is just going a liittle further than the previous people, once you're not afraid (and have both the confidence and competence) of making first tracks you really can have some fun.

offpisteskiing, If I am not mistaken, that is in the National Park off towards the forestry refuge. Nice tracks but you must have hiked out at the bottom some of the way to La Planay, had a few bare patches on the path out already last week. Nice lines. As you say, still loads of places to ski in good snow if you are willing to hike. Did you stop by the waterslide on your way down. Must have been 200/300 people there around that time today.

Just a little update,
I came back on the 6th. Me and the group were lucky enough to have had the 10 cm of snowfall on the weekend we arrived. The sun was blazing throughout Les Arcs, Peisey and Vallandry. At times I was sitting at the various bars with only my salopettes and base top on.. really hot. The snow is good...ish, midday temperatures were destroying the snow on the lower pistes. Obviously the higher you go the better. However there are a few rocks and greenery on show. My skis took the brunt of the damage! some of the runs by mid day were slushy and the shady areas were very icy but all in all a pleasurable experience, but unless more snow falls the weeks to follow will struggle. The guys there are doing a great job keeping snow on the pistes and bashing the hard compacted ice/snow flat again.. I wish I was there another week. Sitting in the sun at 12.00 with a pint of 'gothic' in la foret was brilliant and the food in the Foret hotel was excellent!!
Great Week! Wish I was still there!! Just watch out for rocks and hard ice or your bones or skis will suffer!!

Today we did not go to Tignes in the end so I had a lazy morning for a change and then went up and did a few little routes above Arc 2000 before meeting up with friends for a late lunch at the Mushroom in the Arc 2000 bowl.
After lunch, went up the Lanchettes Chair to avoid the queues and down the ridge by an alternate off piste route for a fun ski towards Villaroger away from all the crowds. Plenty of good snow, even the odd section untracked, to the bottom lifts. Although as the sun went down it did start to become a little crusty in places. (Pics from today coming later on my facebook group photo page, link below. Pics from the last few days already now up. Take a look! See what the conditions are really like.)
Back up to Arc 2000 and over to the waterslide near the snowpark above Arc 1600. Very busy, must have been 200 or 300 people around. Still the best free entertainment on the mountain.
The off piste around the resort is very tracked, but still in good condition if you hit it at the right time of day depending on it's aspect. If you are willing to hike, then there are still places to make fresh tracks. The pistes were very busy again today, but the queues seemed to be less than yesterday. The pistes are hard and compacted in most places, but the warmer temperatures are giving a softer surface later in the day, with slush down at the stations.
Overall the snow in resort is ok and you can get down to all stations without difficulty. The wateslide, snowpark, airbag, luge, boardercross, skicross and nature ride pistes (which are open) all have good snow. For those coming out this weekend you will have a great time.

Yesterday was another one of those blue sky, no wind, good snow days on the mountain. We went over to La Plagne and after getting through the crowds in Bellecote La Plagne and up to the top of the Roche du Mio, we went over the back off piste by a different route with great views of Courchevel and the National Park arriving at the Chalet de Bellecote Chair. Had some fun on the chalky snow in the small couloirs off the Bellecote bowl before heading over to the Petit North Face route.
Good chalky snow all the way down to the avalanche valley and then picked our way through the large ice boulders to the stream below and finally arrived at the restaurant. Had a great lunch at the Cheval restaurant and then back to Peisey and into the lift system again. We only saw one other group the whole way down the Bellecote despite it being high season. Nothing quite like being on a big mountain almost completely alone.
Managed another fun route off piste from the top of the Derby back into Arc 1800 crossing a few pistes. Then finally home via Arc 1600 and the waterslide. Although the conditions were more like spring, the snow is holding up well. Hope everyone travelling today gets home or arrive here safely. The roads are very busy.

Yes, we did some 'fun routes' too today, found some untracked slush, within 100M of GC as it happens, but TBO it ain't really that much fun - no rose tinted specs here.
Snow can be quite difficult to ski on for us intermediate-initiate-turn-with-body-punters, much crusty, the rest slushy, guess thats all fine for the die hards withe 20yrs behind them.
For anyone arriving today, my advice would be... stay in, in the mornings, go up about 11, and don't do lunch.... ski til 3 and go on the lash. Sober up and then go out for the night. Sobering up at the mo... Looks like Jimmys tonight...
No takers at the Altiport today, too fkn bleak, cold & windy -- it really was!!. Ski back home from there was awful - slush and grass.
Everything crossed, we need more snow.... I really resent paying for an another lift pass when I have a LA Season pass, but I aint going to stay here for two weeks if it doesn't snow.

Just posted the latest photos from last few days on my facebook group page, take a look. Despite the doom and gloom out there over the snow conditions, we have still been finding good off piste to ski or board. Come join us or take a guide. You can still find places to have fun in the Paradiski.
Today was very windy and poor light. Not good in the more exposed areas, only spent a little time outside. Hope the bad weather brings snow in next few days.

allanm, Where in Les Arcs are you based and which pistes are affected with the 'slush' and grass? I haven't been there since January but even then the conditions were 'difficult'. I hope conditions will improve for you, how much longer are you there for?

Numptie day in Les Arcs, sooo funny watching from a lift, but not so funny for people below.
BMF_Skier, I was here Christmas and best part of January too, there's no comparison on conditions,

Agreed, but not good anywhere really. Not sure if Varet opened in the end, AR didn't and Transarc top half was closed this earlier this morning.
Arpette and Vagere were bitterly cold [windy], top of the Arpette was especially bleak. Bottom line, stay in the office, save your holiday.
On a positive note, the 'Stade' above Vallandry was good fun, it wasn't roped off today, as it normally is, not many people know about it... if you have a GPS or whatever and want to know how fast you can ski, this may be the time to do it!
It's not a piste... you can fly... literally! It's the landing....

No new snow in the 1800 and pv end today, just sooo much wind. Went to top of transarc when it opened this afternoon but had to get straight back down. Better above pv and derby lift out of the wind. Bellette piste best of the day for us, though some other good reds in this area. Very bottom section best avoided, drop on to foret or peisey retour piste for a bit more depth of cover. Snow line higher than expected, no snow below the vanoise express where we are. Fingers crossed for more snow.

At the start of the day many lifts were not running. As they opened the wind made the higher links very cold and it was flat light most of the day. Not very nice, but at least a little snow is falling. See what difference it makes tomorrow if it keeps going all night. Hope so

On Vanoise. Making was back to Les Arcs. Done 2000 bowl. Over to La Plagne. Up to Roche Del Mio. Did inversions and Les Sources. Excellent snow and great morning finished with lovely lunch in Le Sauget above Montchavin.
As for translation we prefer skiing La Plagne to Les Arcs. No Vanoise we would not have bought in Arc 2000. We view the area as Paradski not Les Arcs or La Plagne. Easy.

In. Lovely day, snow amazingly good considering what I was reading on here. Ok you have to try and keep about 1800 (not hard in Paradski as there is so much above that). More snow forecast for Wednesday/Thursday, snowline seems to be the issue. You never know, fingers crossed for a low fall. Wouldn't mind having a go on the board but not without some powder.
