Les Arcs 2009/2010

JimW, better late than never!!!! Toofy Grin It should be a lot sooner, I like to go home via Malgovert Very Happy I fell asleep on Pre S. Esprit once Skullie

Today was my last ski day of the season. Sitting here listening to the birds singing and looking out towards Roche de Mio across green meadows, hard to think there is still loads of snow on the mountains and even according to my friends sitting here with me, powder!!!!! Twisted Evil on the back of Belverdere in La Thuile. Maybe we should all go there instead of to the Bellecote.

For my final ski I joined some friends out till the end of the season for a ski around our favourite spots in Les Arcs in the morning and finished with a trip off piste down the Petit North Face of AR all the way into Arc 2000 bowl. Very good snow at the top but rapidly going off as we got lower, but still good spring snow to finish.

The pistes all over the ski area even right down to Valllandry were in great condition, nice for high speed carving and plenty of jumps off the side to play on. Stopped for lunch at East in Arc 1950, full of kids, seems a very popular place for groups. Then a quick trip to the Altiport as I just could not resist one last waterslide, sorry folks, managed to stay dry all season this year. Toofy Grin Finally up to the top of Clocheret which also closes today (along with Comborciere and a few other lifts) and off piste all the way back to Arc 1600 and home. A great way to finish a very good winter.

Packing up now and driving home later tonight. It has been a great season for all kinds of reasons but mostly as I have managed to finish for the first time for two years without being injured Very Happy Very Happy

Just want to say bye and thanks for the great company to all those on here that I have skied with this year and to all those that have joined in the chat, it has been fun even when we have abused each other, but all in a light hearted way of course. Now I must get back to the real world, but should any info re Les Arcs come my way I will post here to keep everyone updated.

If I am correct, next season starts 11th December 2010 so see you or chat with you all again then. Oh yes and for those that like the alps in the summer, lifts are open again in July and August for hiking and biking. Have fun Toofy Grin .

If you want to see pics of this season or get in touch about next season please go to my facebook page. snowHead

Some photos of the building work on up in 2000 for the 2nd phase of 'La Cime des Arc's owned by Chalet des Neiges. Can't believe they got planning permission to build so far out into the flat area up top. Also imagine paying premium for an apartment in the 1st phase on the right and now your view is blocked. It would have been much wiser to buy on the less expensive and quieter left hand side Toofy Grin . The new build will only be 4 stories high unlike the existing which is 6.

Hi Folks, just a quick update on things happening in Les Arcs.

In Arc 1600 area
This summer the Claire Blanc is being removed and a new T. Bar, yes that is what they say, a Swiss style T. Bar will replace it to serve the snow park. Starting from near the Altiport and finishing near where the current lift ends. A new section of piste will be built to link the top of the Cachette lift to the new snowpark lift and there are some changes planned to the snow park as well, but no details of that yet. I cannot wait to see how this will all turn out next season.

The Golliet TS will not be replaced. The Cachette, Mont Blanc and Deux Tetes lifts will be upgraded in summer 2011, not this summer and a new blue piste will be added through the present off piste area (not happy) to join the top of the current blue Mont Blanc piste to give access from the top of the new Mont Blanc lift when it is finished next year. The Deux Tetes will be removed. The proposed race piste down to La Grange has not yet been approved.

Arc 1800 area
So far there is NO sign of them breaking ground for the Edenarc development above Arc 1850 and the building work at 1850 is nearly finished. Do we really need yet another apartment development? I say no, not that I count for much but anyway.

There are know new lift developments this summer in the area at present.

Arc 1950/2000
They are adding a rope tow across the flat area from the Arcabulle to somewhere near the Pre Esprit lift so we do not need to walk or skate next season. A very good idea.

There will be a moving floor on the slope up to the Olympic flame area so that you can ski down and round the new building developments in the flat bowl of Arc 2000.

We will have to wait and see exactly where these two 'lifts' will be located as the whole area is a building site right now.

There is NO sign of any work on the proposed Toboggan run from the top of the Arcabulle to the bottom right now. They say it might only be a temporary structure if it goes ahead as there has been some opposition and much as it might be fun for the kids, they tried it out at the end of last season as I reported earlier and where they put it, it is right in the middle of one of the best training areas for those wishing to try off piste so I hope the idea does not go ahead, sorry kids.

Some other future news, it is now in the planning to upgrade the Pre Esprit and Combociere Lifts within the next five years, maybe if enough people write in, they will jump it up the list and do it earlier. Those lifts are so slow.

Peisey/Vallandry
The new lift down to the Vache restaurant should be finished for next winter, a new piste, a kids play area with a toboggan run, park area, floodlights and other stuff is also planned but it may not all be in place by December although they are confident the lift will be working.

At present these are the only developments in this area.

Villaroger area
Right now there are no signs of any changes to lifts or major building work although some smaller renovations are taking place this summer.
For this summer visitors
If you are a mountain biker, the Bike Park has been improved and the Cachette runs '7 days' a week this summer to give access to the Downhill, Bike Park and easy runs back into Arc 1600 every day with some other lifts open Sunday to Friday giving great biking as always right across the Les Arcs area. You can also bike right back to Bourg on single track trails, a challenge but fun.

The Vanoise Express linking to La Plagne side is also open Sunday to Friday until end of August, but most lifts are closed for a 45min – 1hr lunch break everywhere.

All the other normal summer activities across the Les Arcs domain like Hiking including nature walks in the forest reserve and national park areas, Glacier Hiking, Mountaineering (ever wanted to climb Mount Pouri), Rock Climbing, Via Ferrata, Swimming, Archery, Parapente, Dirt Bike, Adventure Parcours, White Water Rafting, Canyoning, Hydro surf, Kayaking, Canoeing, Cano-raft, Quad Bikes, Off Road Motor Bikes, Horse Riding, Tennis, Golf and more are all up and running again until the end of August (Please go to the Les Arcs web site for more details).

The Arpette and Solliet Resturants are closed this summer it appears, but the Vache resturant near the new lift in Peisey and the Bellion La Fumee (including its small pool and hot tub) by the parking at the bottom of Pre Esprit are both open.

That's it folks. If I have any more news I will post again later in the summer.

snowcrazy, thanks for the updates sounds intriguing putting a T bar in for the snowpark full of boarders...

Shame they are putting the blue into Mont Blanc - was always my favourite part of the domain as there was never anyone there.

Please let them upgrade Pre St Esprit sooner, but as above sentence , rather they left combourciere for the 'regulars'!

If OK with you, will link this thread to the 1950 owners website

snowcrazy, you missed out skiing on your list of summer activities!!! - Skied the Mt Pourri yesterday via Col des Roches... great spring snow from the summit back to the col - bit more variable after that, but only 10 minutes walk off snow for 1300m of touring - not bad for a 4th July!

snowcrazy, Thanks for updates. Great news about the tow rope across the flat bit in the middle of the bowl. Might stop the La Plagne tourists complaining Laughing Intrigued about the moving carpet up by the Olympic flame. The new section where we bought our apartment being built this Summer does stick out a lot. The first section built also had cut of access to the UCPA(?) at the back of 2000. They might be looking at giving them access back and also stopping the residents of the UCPA skiing acorss the tar mac under the Lanchettes chair to get back to their accommodation. God bless rental skis Shocked . For geeks who like photos some photos of the building work in 2000 up on Facebook

thefatcontroller, I don't believe there is a UCPA centre up in 2000, it is down in Arc 1600 and has its own section of piste, which requires no tarmac skiing. Don't know 2000 well enough to be able to tell you what your talking about.

For me that will be so I don't have to skate across pulling 2 kids, go back and get the third, and then go and help Mrs Boris!

snowcrazy, Are the Peisey/Vallandry developments in Peisey or Vallandry? I'm guessing it is Peisey from what I recall of the lift proposal before.

Its between 1600 and 1800, where the funpark is now, below Arpette and isn't that the watersplash restaurant? Must be ages ago because of the drag lift in the foreground. I'll have a stab at 1992 because of all the bumps on a flattish piste.

Now that is an interesting pic. As you say it is looking across at the altiport from behind the old tow lift which in those days served the snow park which finished at the altiport. I cannot make out the new snowpark in the distance so it must be around 1988/89 to 1993/94 I think. If I am correct the snow park was moved about 1993/94. Would be interested to hear when you took it.

Boris, it is in a convenient location if you're skiing Peisey/Vallandry, and the terrace is lovely on a sunny day. But their hot chocolate has no redeeming features, and their coffee is (like everywhere else in that part of the world) pants. It's worth a day trip to La Rosiere just to be able to ski into Italy for a decent hot beverage Happy

OK this was my first time in Les Arc and the season was 79/80

and the reason for the bumps being close together was that compact skis were in vogue then so lots of shorter fatter skis around Puzzled Puzzled

rob@rar, Yes, looking down the mountain, you have 'le Ralax' on the left and at the far right, Maximas, who's coffee is cheaper but not nearly so good.

It is important in France to ask for a double expresso and not just a 'grand cafe noir', If you ask for the former, in all likelyhood you will get a single expresso topped up with hot water. Most places charge the same though. You don't have to ask for a double expresso in Le Relax.
