thefatcontroller, I get the feeling you are trying to make a rather poor attempt at having a go at me. What a shame. Do you really want to have a spate on here. I think we are here to give information that is correct to help others that might be thinking of coming out. Nothing to do with empires. I do not think when wrong info is posted it should go uncorrected. To bad if you do not agree. If Allanm or anyone else including you posts something that is incorrect I have the right to say so. Better to get the correct facts out for people to read. After what I read on here last week about places in view from Arc 2000, well, enough said!! I did not need to join in that one as others already did a good job of correcting the facts.
Now how about moving onto more important stuff like the current conditions.
Today was another amazing powder day. Yes still powder in April. Went across to bellecote as planned, had some great runs on untracked soft light snow and finished with the Petit North Face and then a fast off piste ski across some great spots inbetween the pistes down to Arc 1800 from the top of the derby.
Then the same from the top of vagere over to the altiport and the water slide (still dry), in fact everyone made it today without getting wet.
Then more off piste back to Arc 1600 tonight.
ed123, the temp is up and down all the time. Started very cold this morning and up on the glacier it stayed that way all day so the snow high up is holding out well. Down lower it is getting warmer but still good snow cover most places but getting thin going into Peisey and the Van Experss, hope that helps. See you when yo get out maybe.

The clouds stayed away at the start of the day and so we had a quick blast across quiet pistes to the Van Express and up to the top of Roche de Mio. Another great trip down through the cliffs to the chair below on good snow and then spent a few hours finding fresh tracks on the front side of the bellecote bowl.
Finally the clouds arrived and the vis began to fail as the light snow started to fall so headed across to the Friolin bowl and more un-tracked powder down to the trees where it started to become broken, crusty then soft slushy snow.
Managed to stop for lunch at the Chalet Friolin, very nice food. Then up the chairs and behind the ridge to the 'ravine' at least that is what we call it. Nice snow and loads of fun for the kids when they arrive.
Back to the Van Express, then off piste to Arc 1800 from the top of the Derby like yesterday and then down to the Altiport and waterslide for Hot chocolate plus!! (still dry). All the team made it again. Hope all you visitors coming out give it a try.
Finally home in better light but still cold. The off pistes areas are still in very good condition with fresh snow, sometimes powder in sheltered places. The pistes are all excellent higher up but into resorts are getting slushy in places with a few patches of grass showing at lower levels. All together it looks like a great Easter week if only the vis would be better tomorrow.
If anyone is coming out pass by the altiport from 4.30pm or George's Wine bar in Arc 1950 after 5.30pm for a chat and a beer. maybe even arrange to have a ski or a board. You can also visit my Facebook page and leave a message there.

Blue sky and deep powder , what more can we ask fo r!!! Got up the mountain early today and met friends for a blast around the Varet area to warm up on the powder. AR still shut so headed over the back and down to Villaroger in good snow although not as great as higher up on the Varet
Then back up and down another off piste area, still un-tracked and this time hit gold. Great powder almost the whole way top to bottom, nobody complained about the walk at the end. Hunger set in and headed to the snack bar in 1950 for lunch and to meet others. Oh and I did a little gully coming into 1950, know tracks so just had to be done. Some of you know the place with a little jump in the middle!!!
After a quick lunch all the way up to top of AR (only small queue) and deep powder again down to top of Robert Blanc. Down the couliour and all the way into Arc 2000 bowl. What a great effort by everyone old and young . Then time to check out the Grand Col area. More good powder, but well tracked.
Top to bottom throw the middle bowl and all the way to Bois de l'ours and the snow park to try and keep the kids happy. Water-slide again (still dry), well done Jessie, did it twice and dry as well. parents watched, kids are much braver !!!!
The pistes all over the resort even right down towards Villaroger had a good covering of snow in the morning. The Easter queues were not bad in most places so it looks like an ok week. By the afternoon higher pistes were still great and the lower ones were getting a little slushy. The off piste higher up stayed light and fluffy all day and the lower areas became heavy after lunch. Altogether for this time of year the snow is great and will outlast the season yet again.
After a cold beer, finally home after a great day!!! And they say it is blue sky again tomorrow so bellecote here we come, maybe!!! Sorry no pics today too busy having fun!!

Blue sky again this morning so the Bellecote NF Canadian couloir was on the agenda. Got to the top for Roche du mio and did a warm up down through the cliffs in good snow, soft and fluffy but well tracked to the chair and then up the top of bellecote. Even by 11.30am it was starting to get wet as the freezing level was over 3000m today.
Headed down the back and found great snow in the sheltered couloir all the way to the bottom. It had snowed a lot in the last few days so it was good to see other groups showing some discipline and not crowding each other, keeping it safe on a day like today was top priority.
Coming out the bottom and onto the open area the snow became heavier but still good to ski even giving the chance to make fresh tracks. Finally finishing with the river route out, more like a skicross course now. A nice drink at the bottom and back to Les Arcs.
Over in Les Arcs headed high and found more good snow even after lunch on the grand col and Petit North Face of AR. Everywhere is well tracked in les arcs on the resort side of the mountains, but still great to ski. Lower down towards Arc 1800 and 1600 it became very soft and slushy. But still another great day in the sun and snow.

rob@rar,
there is a meeting of the SMA and various parties on Sunday 18th April, when they are announcing "new developments and owner incentives" - I can't make it but have asked one of the 1950 staff to cover for me, so should be able to post any interesting developments sometime soon after.

rob@rar, I also hope to be at the meeting (as long as it is not our last powder day) so will try to get details out once things are confirmed.
genepi, The lift is finished they say??? just needs the chairs putting on it. Will be interested to hear the final progress report.
Today was rather overcast and flat light on crusty snow made it a late start. Even by 3pm the top of the AR was still not that much fun off piste. But the pistes were firm and dusted with loose snow from many skiers which made them quite enjoyable except for all the people. I skied around most of the resort from 1600 to 1800 and then across to the 2000 bowl. The kids enjoyed the bordercross courses but off piste was not that great although they still found a few fun things to jump off.
Still hoping for the snow they promised but it does not look very promosing now. But having better vis by late afternoon was a nice bonus so one should not complain to much I guess.
JimW, if you have time why not post how all the family are finding the conditions.

snowcrazy, 5 mins before heading out again in the most glorious sunshine and spring conditions. All blacks closed this morning due to hard, icy stuff (well, Roulles, Bosses, Grand Col, and the Combouceire arm from Clocheret were), but Eggy Rouge now open so heading up there. Soft in 1800: and a bit slushy- but certainly skiable -into 1600 before lunch, Doubt you make it later this afternoon without a wakeboard.
It's Hot hot hot.
SmallW is having a ball, daddy has now become just a wallet and sweetie carrying machine as she has surpassed me on the skiing front.
Eight FFS, just 8 years old. I'm going to have to get some more lessons or go with the.snowcrazy gang down really difficult stuff.
Heading out to the UK early tomorrow, so enjoying the last few hours - will be sorry to see the last of the snow this year.

My eldest was just over 7 when we were in Pesiey in Feb and I was struggling to outperform her. Next year promises to be humiliating. Maybe 8 is the age it happens.
As long as I have the wallet, the power remains with me, though.

Hello this is Codger Jr. reporting on behalf of snowcrazy (I personally don't want to face the consequences if I don't!) Anyway, the snow was alright this morning, icy for most of the morning only begining to soften up about 12. The snow definitely got very slushy as the day went on but it's good to have a variety I suppose! It was quite hot for most of the day especially in the afternoon.
I spent the day with my backcountry ski class, a very enjoyable day I must say! Skied from the top of the Transarc down to Nancroix about 11; it was good snow at the top softening up as we got down, saw a few marmottes and rabbits, walked up a path which just about had enough snow covering it, skiied down a walking path which was downhill, then walked down a hill (with loads of rocks!) for 20 mins because of the rubbish snow down there. Oh well, it was a good run! Then messed around in the snow park and visited the Altiport. There's my day!
Not sure when I will next be updating you all about the snow, I hope this report is good enough!

its currently snowing down here in villaroger as i speak so there should be some fresh stuff up top for tomorrow providing this snow goes through the night. id be lieing if i said it wasnt needed as some of the areas are needing a top up.i know its coming towards the end of the season but some places especially around villaroger hav become un-skiable. it was funny as i was sat in la foret cafe which is part of the ski olympic hotel in vallandry, people were coming in saying how amazing the snow had been around the area!i thought to myslelf, where have these people been skiing??some of the pistes are ok, off piste is non existent however.

I stayed in Vallandry last week and I thought the snow was fab overall - for our needs at least.
The base built up early in the year obviously made a difference as there were very few brown patches on piste compared to the same time last year. It was also possible to mess around with the kids on the bumps between runs and in the trees which was not possible last year. Talking here about the bits around Le Foret at top of Vallandry lift.
Generally skied from first lift with short lunch break and finished at 3ish as snow lower down was like porridge.

Hi, this is Codger Jr again, reporting on behalf of Snowcrazy.
The snow is still good for so late in the season and we were even blessed with untracked snow on Tuesday. On Tuesday, I went to Val d'Isere and we did lots of great runs. We did the Col de Pers off piste and the Cugnai off piste where we could make fresh lines in nice soft snow (not too painful for mum to face plant in) but my favourite run is the Mousehole run - the Vallee Perdue.
Yesterday, we went to Montalbert to have lunch in Snowcrazy's fave restaurant- the infamous 'omlette restaurant' in Montalbert called the Foropet. There were also several other people my age so we had a great time doing the gullies again. This time mum did the Champagny gully and did not disgrace herself by screaming too much or falling over. The snow was firm in the morning but softened up on the lower slopes in the afternoon. We then went to the Altiport on the way home and very UNFORTUNATELY Snowcrazy is still dry.
This morning we have blue skies and we are just going to hit the slopes in a moment.
Have a good day. Bye!

Hi, its Codger Jr again.
Yesterday, the snow was firm in the morning but not too slushy in the afternoon as it got quite cold after lunch. We were doing some exercises before lunch and after lunch, we practised our medium radius turns in preparation for race day today. We finished off the day going down Bois de l'ours which had quite big moguls. Luckily they had softened up for us.
It is my last day here today
Hopefully the blue skies outside will last all day

Its Codger Jr doing my last report for this season. We had a great last day. Did the ESF Fleche race in 1800 in the morning and I am pleased to report that I got a bronze. Thank you Snowcrazy for your help and encouragement. We then had a great afternoon doing alternative lines and jumps in Malgovert which was good fun and then finally we ended up at the altiport and yes, Snowcrazy is still dry. Dad and I both finally did the waterslide and we are both dry as well. Mum? Don't be silly! Chicken!
This is it till next season so bye everyone

So potentially some large and interesting developments around the Les Arcs area over the nect couple of years. My sources tell me that the big meeting is this week to look at the development of Villaroger and then the new access road plans will be rubber stamped to put in a main carraigeway from the Auberge right the way through to Villaroger, and then a big development next to the bottom of the lift, next to the Ferme....

The Voice of Reason, interesting news.
The lift company and the communes always have there planning meetings at this time of year and I have been told that they are now finally trying to get together to make plans for the whole area. I wonder how committed they are to working together rather than in competition. From what I understand so far:
They plan to replace the clair blanc lift for the snow park this summer, but do not plan to put in a new lift for the gollet or half the tow in 1600 that were taken out last summer. They are also hoping to get the go ahead for next year to replace the Mont Blanc and Deux Tetes with a new high speed lift to serve the new race piste that is also planned all the way down to La Grange, but there are objections. The army buildings down in Bourg and RN buildings hope to become a new sports centre of excellence for France with world class skiers and a new downhill/super g course. All this is still in the planning stage so watch this space.
The new building project in Arc 1800 will go ahead 'Eden Arc' and it will take a little of the beginner piste, not good. In Bourg the new MGM complex is already well on its way. In Peisey Vallandry they are also planning a new development as well as on the other side of the Van express in Les Cloches. In Seez and Villaroger, if the plans are approved then the new bypass road will go ahead and with better access the new complex by the lifts in Villaroger could then be built. There has been talk about this for a while so again we will all have to wait and see what gets approved. They will have to upgrade the lifts in Villaroger and get more snow canons in various places if this is to work . This season Villaroger closed nearly a week earlier than the rest of the resort due to poor snow again.
For anyone that is really interested, after the meetings are finished this month, the proposed new plans can be viewed in each communes planning office by just asking I believe. Sometimes I do love the French system. Well that is all the news I have for now, but will keep you posted when I get any more.
I almost forgot, they have also said that the lifts will open about the 12 Dec 2010 and close about 1st May 2011. When i have a chance i will check my notes and post the exact dates.

Can't do it till then as they will need to make sure everyone is off the lift and the next full rotation of Pre Saint Esprit is not due to complete till late 2014.
