Sunny again this morning, but it clouded over this afternoon which is promising. Very slushy low down from about 11.00 though.

We only skied above the village chair lift level as the sight of some poor sod sliding half way down valentin having lost their skis kinda put us off skiing all the way down.

Quite a common sight on the chair up in my ltd experience!

easiski, Yes, it was Bliss Snow School I'm afraid. In their email, they said that they would leave the money I paid in cash with a rental shop. I said I didn't feel comfortable with this and asked if they could just refund me through paypal (I paid through this, so I really hope it won't be a problem!

debbi, great shot of the lake from the helicopter. I took hardly any photos this time for some strange reason, despite lugging loads of kit.

debbi, great photos - aahhhh the days when there was sun!
It's been bitterly, bitterly cold today so I never got out of the village. There are some nice slopes to use down here if you'r getting blown away at the Cretes (and apparently they were). UUrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh. Not sure what to do about off piste lesson tomorrow - hoping to go to LG on thurs, but if this wind keeps up, then I don't know.
Today's pic is of the Champamee slope with Valentin, Belle Etoile and Grande Pente above it - look at all the little ants on the Valentin!

Coo! Looks like we were very lucky with all the sun we had last week then.

I made the mistake of going up today in the hopes that it might clear a bit. Got blown back up Cretes towards the red eggs, had to walk all the way along the flattish bit in howling gale and face-stinging snow, grovelled my way down to the white eggs in non-existant visibility and went home. Would have fared a bit better on skis, but would still have sacked it off and gone in.
Rubbish!
Good snow though, will be splendid when the weather calms down.

Down off the mountain early - it's great working for myself. My clients will be here next week too, I'm quiet next week, so I just said "shall we abandon and do a session next week in nicer weather?" "Yes please" they said!
It wasn't too bad this morning until about 10.30, and then the wind which was always blowing a bit, got up really nastily and what with it clouding over it became absolutely brassic. I reckon that the "feel" temp was around -25 or -30 on the Cretes. Much too cold to stay outside. I bet Scarpa's stilll out though - he's indestuctible! We had some fun on his off piste lesson yesterday - I just hope it's OK for our planned trip to LG tomorrow.

debbi, rayscoops, the "standard" route of the Vallons de la Meije is not particularly steep (reddy-black), but it's the lower bits that always get peeps. It's not steep down there at all, but there are obstacles like roots and trees and streams and rocks etc. so you have to have really good control. Lots of peeps do it on boards (and I've taken some with me), most of them complain about the traversing, which you don't even notice on skis!

That reminds me, I meant to ask about the blue runs in L2A. As a beginner skier I found some of them to be steeper than I'd expect. Is it just me, or are some of the blue runs quite tricky in places? (I can't remember their names now, mind!)

easiski, Would people like me need a guide to do the "standard" route of the Vallons de la Meije or is the route fairly obvious?
