Went through Zurich this morning and used the self service machine. First question was do you have resident permit or longstay visa? Had to answer No as a France 6 month D visa starts tomorrow. Much quicker having self serviced, only a few in front. No stamp.

@colinstone, wouldn't you have had to answer No anyway, even tomorrow? A French long-stay D visa still only permits a 90 in 180 stay in other Schengen countries, so isn't a residence permit or long-stay visa for Swizerland.

Just flown out of the new terminal which is absolutely miles away if you land at the far end of terminal 1 on your transfer. They have loads and loads of scanners in departures. 60 or 70 or them I'd say.

Went through barcelona on Friday. Scanned my passport then the machine sent me to the e-gates. Others were doing fingerprintsl

Marco Polo pretty smooth this morning- EES booths at the entrance to the airport not busy (although the ones by the actual departure area slightly busier) and worked well. It was some of the parties 1st EES trip but even they got through the machines very smoothly with minimal delay.

@ecureuil, I am pretty sure that a FR long stay visa "D" visa works across Schengen and should exempt from the EES stuff as bio's have already been taken. Swiss Douane commented on it on my way out at Zurich.

No EES outbound at the Channel Tunnel the other day (I know that EES there is not operational) but son did not receive a stamp in the passport which will be interesting when returning through Gare du Nord tomorrow.

@Hurdy, shouldn't be a problem, as the passport would have been scanned on the way out anyway, so they know when they departed.
its not much different with having the passport scanned and then biometrics taken, as far as i am aware the biometrics are just confirming passport and passenger are one and the same.
it does seem to be a mix and match at the moment, i went on a coach trip to Normandy on a d-day visit last weekend, out via dover-calais and back via the eurotunnel.
both times off the coach and through the EES buildings for coach parties, my passport was scanned and fingerprints and photo taken, but some others on the coach had no fingerprints taken on the way out, whilst others did not have theirs taken on the way back 
though on my return i did notice the new EES "shed" at calais (its the other side of pet reception area) where the new terminals are situated, as i had not noticed this before.
i saw a youtube clip this morning where Simon Calder mentioned about Greece postponing EES, and possibly Italy/Portugal and spain doing the same (not sure if this has been confirmed or not, as there were reports about them doing it as well). he is predicting that it will all be pushed back by the EU until early autumn, to get it all up and running correctly, as more and more EU countries, T/O's and airlines are complaining about long delays.

The main word there is "shouldn't"....I've got a residence permit for France but most of the other EU countries don't know what to do with it which ends up in discussions of whether I need to go through the EES process or not. This includes when I leave and enter France...the county that provided my permit.

Might be less flights overall but those that fo will be totally full so individual queue longer

I have, several times.
Both ways on my ski trip this year Cardiff - Salzburg & return (7tth/15th Jan), plane was about 3/4 full.
Last year Bristol - Lyon and return Marseille to Bristol (October), about 3/4 full on the way out, fuller on the way back, but still some empty seats.

First trip under EES this week (as our last ski trip was LeShuttle) - BHX <> AMS (Schipol)...
Entry - Mon late pm - absolutely no disruption - in fact the path from EES terminals entered the main passport stream half way down and it might have even saved time
Exit - late Weds evening - EES cost us less time than the guy in front of us at the border guard station who insisted on his rights to not tell them where he had been, how long he'd stayed etc. Certainly cost us less than 5 mins
