Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Limone Piemonte Conditions- last week of season

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have a flight to Turin booked for 6th to 9th April and was going to do 3 days in Monterosa/Cervinia/Pila but I wondered what the conditions would be like in Limone Piemonte. A 29 euro a day lift pass appeals and I love trying new places. Currently 260cm at the top. Being so far south I wondered if it would be OK in 10 days time. Anyone been here very late in the season.
Thanks

It's had the best season in years, hit over and over again so if you were going to do it late this would be the time

Although monte rosa has too

You will get accommodation in either easily last minute so why not wait and see what conditions and temps are like when you arrive?

From a quick look there limone has a decent amount of north facing stuff which would help, more than monte rosa but the latter has a fair bit of higher terrain (though not sure in practice how many pistes at higher terrain that will give you)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Since it's very close to the season closing date it's possible they may only be on a partial opening by then. Might be worth checking directly with the lift company.

Wise words, well worth checking both resorts actually. A lot of italian resorts finish up after easter weekend.

Thanks for replies. I think I'll leave it until nearer the time. Monterosa lift passes can be bought up to 17th and Limone until 12th. So that seems to be the end of season. Seems to be a lot of places available to stay. Just fancy a bit of fun for a few days, ideally on quiet slopes. I was worried there might be a mini heatwave over the next 10 days but seems quite settled.

Ah, oddly enough I'm planning on going to Limone from the 8th to the 10th.
I'm catching the sleeper from Nice to Paris on the 10th and thought I'd do a couple of days of relatively local skiing beforehand.
Never been before, and even if there's not much snow it looks like an interesting/attractive place.

Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

Just looked at Italian meteo and Limone has lows of 13 and highs of 18 by next Wednesday whereas Monterosa or Cervinia are still a lot cooler. I'm veering towards heading North from Turin rather than South. Any opinions?

That may just be a function of the altitude of the respective resorts. Its to be a lot warmer from this weekend I think, in which case Cervinia is always going to be the best draw with several runs over 3000m. The question is do you want to take this good snow year opportunity to visit and experience Limone and enjoy the presumably much quieter slopes there (in slushy conditions the number of skiers on the slopes is also an important variable in ski quality).

I bet you'd enjoy either.

I was hoping that Monterosa might be quietish or maybe Pila. I'd have a car so I'd base myself somewhere like Castillon and would easy enough to travel. Just a bit worried about putting all my eggs in one basket.

Fair. You will definitely be safer in Aosta. Cervinia safest of all but also busiest.

@beecroftboarder,

I have been watching Limone and Prato Nevoso all season. Never been but they have had epic snow. I could get cheap flights in Feb but couldn't find reasonably priced accommadation.

Given the lateness in the season, I think Aosta would be a safer bet! Go high!
