Merry Christmas all.
Having done some asking around and seeing that lots of places were closed for Christmas Day, we stocked up on Christmas Eve, and opted for a home cooked Bolognese last night, before heading out for some post dinner cocktails.
When we come away at Christmas, we do a 'Fake Christmas' at home beforehand, so we've had our roast and crackers. We do presents then too, so we don't have to transport them.
Snow was lovely yesterday with a much needed top up, though there were still the occasional bare or icy patches. Easy enough to avoid them. Noticeable difference on Bosc Fosc coming home yesterday. It was really icy on Christmas Eve, but as it snowed pretty much all day yesterday, it was in much better condition at 1615.
Flat light made it tricky at times, aside from the odd bare patch, the snow was terrific.

Strong winds today have stripped a lot of the new snow away unfortunately. Fingers crossed it dies down and there’s a few cm of fresh overnight.

Monday at Formigueres the on piste conditions and in the forests were great (although unsurprisingly tracked out), but it was very warm in the afternoon: 4⁰c at the top.
There were quite a few people on the mountain, which is incidentally why we headed to the back of the valley rather than LA or Cambre d'Aze.
There were also more cars driving up from Perpignan than heading down the valley at the end of the day, so I'm guessing it may have been a tad busy over the new year festivities. Nothing shocking; these are best late December conditions had in the Capcir in donkey's years. Long may it continue!

Yes, it’s been very busy here. Despite the decent early snow, some of the pistes are looking a bit grey/brown. A little top up this week will go down well. It’s forecast to get very cold too for a few days.

I've got 5 days in Ax 3 Domaines. Then I'm heading to Les Angles thinking of buying the Neiges Catalanes pass and traveling about a bit. Do you reckon that's a good plan?

@JahPastyfari, let us know how you get on in Ax. I used to ski there years ago and have a soft spot for it. We started going elsewhere as we outgrew it and the snow can be hit or miss. If you catch it when there is plenty of snow, as there seems to be this year, it should be lovely. We used to drive so we did occasional day trips to Andorra for a change of scenery - its not a very long drive I think it was maybe 40mins or so away.

@monkey, Yeah I'll report back. Snow looks to be excellent and cost was a big factor for me this year. I usually head to larger French and Italian resorts. So will see how I get in.

Les Angles is a cult resort, for those in the know.
Pretty scenery.
Small, but mighty.
They're about 90% open right now, and should get 30-50cm of fresh flakes down to 600m thru Saturday.

@mrvinegar, Sunday's a good option.
We've had a sprinkling of snow tonight with a nice top up higher up. Friday and Saturday are looking good for snow although it's possible that Saturday will be iffy (for lift opening) because of wind. Fingers crossed it won't be that bad.

30-40cm down low where I am (no skiing). 70cm-ish up higher. Higher lifts closed yesterday. Still great fun.

@Whitegold, ah ok. After typing that, I spent a couple of hours outside and once the sun came up from behind the mountain it felt really quite nice (work day not a ski day). I drove over Port d’Envalira earlier and the thermometer there was showing 0c at about 20:30.
The upcoming snow looks good especially as it doesn’t seem to be accompanied with ridiculous winds. Even though we had a load of snow in most places, there are still others completely wind blown and scabby (thankfully in the minority).
