Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

single dial BOA ski boots

Looking to purchase new boots - very interested in this system so looking for any advice / experience of this type of fit please?
I'm a advanced intermediate skier - mature female - if that makes any difference.

Hubby - who snowboards slightly putting me off as he had some snowboarding boots with a similar system a few years ago and the cable snapped.

Also - I was wondering how easy is it to find / get back to that perfect fit each time you remove the boots?

@Lipizzaner, if available, try both versions, with and without BOA, so you can compare. I don't have BOA on my boots as they were only stocking the men's version at the time, but my partner does and he really likes it. They are more sturdy than the old snowboard version. I think the fact that you can adjust them quickly whenever you like means that you don't need to be too concerned about getting it perfect every time. If it's not right, turn it – you can make micro adjustments in both directions.

They don't get caught up like buckles do, and don't accidentally flip open when you crash. I wish I had them too, but I will get them on the next boots.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Lipizzaner, my boots are part Boa, skied on them on December for 9 days for the first time, like the way that you get an even tightening across the foot, they are also easy to adjust up or down, removing the boot is a doddle no getting that clip caught.

These are mine

I have the Hawx ultra as well, but have so far only used them to teach on the dry slope. I do like them, though - it feels very even over the foot area.

There isn't a way of knowing how tight you had them the last time you put them on, but I just wind them up till it feels snug. If it's not quite right it's really easy to just tighten it a bit more - there's none of the trial and error of undoing the clip and wondering how much tighter to go that you have with clips. I do find it takes slightly longer to wind the cable up when you first put the boot on than it did to do 2 clips up, because the cable unwinds quite a long way when you open the boot up enough to get your foot into it. I also find I have to take all the slack out of the cable before doing the lower leg buckle, otherwise it can get in the way of the buckle.

I got the boots because the boots I got last season were essentially too big, I had to do the forefoot clip up VERY tightly in order to stop my foot sliding forwards. I do wonder whether I would have been able to do that with the Boa, or whether to get it that tight on the instep I would have had to get it equally tight on the toes. So what I'm saying, is make sure you get boots that actually fit you properly. Obviously. It's been said on here very many times!

The cable looks more durable than the Boa in the snowboard boots we have at work.

Thank you very much for replies - very helpful - going forward think I will definitely look into these - heading out to LaPlagne next week so will see if I can find them there
Think I have worn my current boots out, they are around 8-10 years old were beginning to feel as if I had far too much movement - the buckles were done up on the tightest setting - so no more room to make them tighter

Check that the clips can't be moved to a tighter position on the ski boot shell - lots of boots have more than.one set of holes.in the shell for attaching the leg buckles to. You may still want to get new boots, but this might help in the meantime?

You can also tighten the buckle by twisting it, unless it's already on the shortest setting.

Thank you - yes definitely already on the shortest settings - beginning of week not too bad - but as week progresses and they gradually tighten I run out of options - they are fairly old, so think its about time to change.
