Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I checked this one earlier too, around the same time I read that ABZ had been closed due to 'bad' weather. No updates on this i'm afraid. I reckon they might send it to EDI or GLA when they are ready. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns up at Gatwick either Laughing

@mikeycharlton, Your help is much appreciated. My wife is very stressed! BA make no effort to give progress reports. I'm flying with Easyjet next week! Hope I don't have to buy all my "missing" ski stuff.

@Jehu, I'd suggest an email to the carrier, advising that you will be making a claim for reimbursement if you need to purchase new gear to replace the missing items in time for your next trip.

That way, you can reasonably argue that they were forewarned.

I'd give them a specific deadline, allowing for the need to clean, dry and repack your missing items and/or allow time to procure replacements (min 3 days before departure from home?)

Thanks to Mikey Charlton some useful info there and keep up the good work!
I don't put my home address on the outside of my bags on the outward journey for home security reasons.
I do photgraph my cases at the airport and try to do so after the bag tags have been put on.
I can understand why insurance companies want receipts but who keeps receipts for everything that they buy and for how long?

Contact details left inside a suitcase can often be difference between seeing your luggage again or it going to auction.

Full home address is probably the least important, but country/town/post code can still be very useful. The more clues the better. Photos of your bag, air tags, detailed list of contents. There's so many simple things that people can do to help minimise the delay, or worse a total loss.

Don't forget that anyone with access to airline bookings systems will already know when you're home is empty. I'd say that's potentially a bigger security threat to your home than a unscrupulous baggage handler.

I put the destination address outbound, plus contact details (phone number & email) showing on the outside of the luggage tag.
On the reverse, I have my home details, and just turn the card over for the return trip.

So full details are available to anyone who might need to examine, but not to a casual observer.
Full details also in an envelope inside.

Thanks Mikey, I logged into it just now and it wants me to populate the contents of the bag in the make a claim section. Does that mean they've given up or if it's just part of the process after X amount of days?!

Can you see if any of the other Aberdeen baggage has moved yet? I'll probably be less concerned if it hasn't, hopefully it'll indicate they have some kind of plan in place.

@damanpunk, EasyJet asked me to do this last year after my bag was not loaded at Schiphol and I feared the worst. However it then turned up the next day.

@damanpunk, do it just in case, but I suspect your bag still has its tag on, it's just still stuck in GVA with many others.

All the other ABZ files from the weekend are still open. Suggests all bags are still in GVA

I have had a live chat with a BA employee after dealing with a very poor bot! She did say that I could put a claim in for ski clothes etc needed for next week. What is really unacceptable is that all she could tell me is that they are searching for my baggage and I should wait another 24-48 hours. Surely someone at BA knew on Saturday that a whole load of baggage was left at Lyon airport. Someone at BA should be able to tell me what the plan was to deal with the baggage and to keep track of where it is now. To say that "our airport team is searching for it" implies that it has actually gone missing, when it should be in a secure place at Lyon waiting to be loaded onto the next available flight. We were told by the pilot that some cases had been loaded but none appeared on the belt at LHR. So I am left wondering whether it is the "airport team" at LHR who are searching or the "airport team" at LYS who are searching.

I'd be surprised if anyone at BA had anything to do with it, I assume it would all be subcontractors and not necessarily even a direct link with BA.

The airports will be sending messages back and forth (for the first 5 days).
But when there's potentially thousands of delayed bags, those messages are a waste of time.

Now that I’m ancient and retired I can look back on this sort of problem with insight.
I was overseas transport (France CMF and GVA) in winter, Italy (VRN. MXP, BGY) in summer for twelve years or so.

The first aspect of this that I became aware of, many years ago, is that it is the tour operator’s responsibility (better still the rep in front of the aggrieved client) to thrash down to the airport from Tignes, Val d’Isère or 3 Valleys and demand delivery of the missing baggage forthwith. The fact that nobody at the departure airport (or anywhere else!) had noticed a bag that shouldn’t be there or noticed it and done something useful was irrelevant.
This still applied when they had a PIR in their hands and could access Worldtracer for themselves – it was still the TO’s fault.
Then, when it was found and identified, somewhere, it would be sent to the planned destination, or if there was no sensible connection, to the first flight to a nearby airport – geographically. This had the potential to make things worse!
Another aspect was that with chalets the delivery drivers hadn’t a clue where to make delivery so I had to issue the handling agents at GVA, CMF, LYS and GNB with detailed addresses within each resort.

And all of this of course was for one-off bags, not a situation where a container didn’t get loaded or the belts failed.

Back in the day I used to rely on a contact at our lead charter carrier or the staff at our Head Office – today someone like Mikey would be a Godsave. I don’t know who he works for (handling agent, SITA, airline?) but he is a credit to them.

Maybe some joy on mine soon, the airtag location has updated to 'Voie des Traz', when I google it there's a freight forwarding company there. Crazy I haven't had a single email from easyjet since submitting the report though.

@damanpunk, destination airport (not airline) is responsible for tracing for the first 5 days.

Still no update with yours I'm afraid, although I can see a trickle of delayed bags starting to leave GVA finally.

BA have also kept me uninformed about my bags which were, I presume, left in Lyon last Saturday, though it is possible they were on the plane and went missing at Heathrow. The only information they give is that they are "searching".

@Jehu, I have a list that I am monitoring for updates a few times a day. Yours is on it, don't worry.

If it's due to be sent to Heathrow or arrives there, I will be able see it and report.
Quite a few people from your flight are still waiting for their bags, which suggests some sort of operational issues at Lyon, rather than a couple of bags disappearing into thin air.

Some bags are starting to arrive from GVA, less so from TRN, although there is some talk of them being sent to the UK this weekend.
No idea what's happened at LYS, but there is widespread disruption across Europe due to 'weather', in addition to the known baggage belt failures.

I see the dailymail had an article up about the chaos!

I think it was on facebook I read that 77000 passengers went through the airport that day and 4000 bags are currently waiting to be sent to their owners, brutal. Geneva airport apparently blaming the snow and denying a bent fault, what snow?!

No activity on mine yet but hoping if they've got their poo-poo together they'll have it on the once weekly flight to Aberdeen tomorrow!

@damanpunk, the reason that the easyjet tracking stopped working was because your bag arrived last night and ABZ closed your file and got it ready for the couriers. Granted it would have taken another day or 2 to be delivered to your home.

Your next lot of tracking updates (re delivery) would have come directly from the couriers.

Anyway. Glad you got it back eventually Little Angel
