@Bergsteiger278, 'Tedious' is a local that drives up to St.Anton several times a week to go skiing for fun, and then comes reporting here to an international forum that the skiing was 'barely acceptable'

There are too many"locals" on this site, and everyone is better, knows more, has better insight than the next.................(is a international spy also, I forgot). Can see it is snowing on the Cams, If anyone is really there, how is it looking, and is the forecast shaping up accurately.

I reckon there’s 10+ cm in our carpark at nasserein from todays weather, and certainly more higher up. Definitely windy too. Reckon the Avie risk tomorrow will be a high 3, maybe 4 in places…

Nothing to add today: my plans changed & I skied in Montafon instead. I‘ll certainly be in the Arlberg next week & will provide updates accordingly.

Search and rescue is still underway for a number of possible victims (still unclear)
It is currently Level 4

Arrived in Oberlech yesterday afternoon to glorious weather. Freezing cold, sunshine and lovely fresh snow. Decided against skiing for a couple of hours and instead decided to 'settle in'. Overcast and slightly snowing this morning but lovely snow and quiet. Warmed up significantly this afternoon and had some rain in the hood. Looking forward to some clear days

@turms, @munich_irish, here in Vorarlberg Skiing is also not as prevalent as it once was. (However, our local club is thriving & there are plenty of local youngsters coming through.) As you say, There are many reasons for the decreasing popularity of skiing even here, but an oft overlooked one is the closure of many village drag tows/simple chair lifts due to climate change. This means the local children no longer learn to ski as part of everyday village life but need to travel to the bigger resorts with their parents as „quasi tourists“…

@boabski.com I also went skiing in Lech today. Due to the recent snowfall, the pistes were much improved over last week and it was indeed quiet. Didn‘t do any off piste as there seemed to be a Level 4 warning in place when I set off, tho‘ it was Level 3 by the time I arrived - by which time I had only had brought piste skis..I left shortly after midday, just as it started to warm up.

I was also skiing in St Anton today. The Schindler Route was open & in good condition, although the snow cover on the run out at the bottom was getting thin. Although it stayed sunny, the ares was very quiet.

Skied from lech over to Rendl today. Majority of pistes in great condition. Below c.1600m snow is pretty sketchy as is cannon snow melted and frozen. Gutted that griabli no longer doing live music - some of my best apres nights have been in there (not been to Arlberg in around 7/8 years and apparently they stopped it 6 years ago). Managed some beers in the KK and the Moos before heading back to Oberlech for dinner. All in all a great day

@halfhand, got a taxi from Griabli. Me and my mate's wives both have dodgy knees at the moment and the ski from Kappal down to KK and Griabli messed them up big time. The thought of that final ski down to bottom was giving them the fear

@boabski, thanks. I'm in Oberlech next week and thought I might try to get over St.A for a bit of nostalgia (was last there in 2011).

Arriving on Saturday for a few days in St Anton - can't wait!
There still look to be a lot of runs closed (if the Ski Arlberg interactive map is correct?) - e.g. the blacks on Kapall / Gampen, a lot of the reds above Oberlech. Is this due to lack of snow still?
Also - is Gunar back at the Murrmel this year? If so, which days?

@MontyP, The snow on piste in St Anton is good. Not the squeaky cold powder you hope to find in January but decent bashed powder all the way to the bottom. Some of the ski routes are open, Schindler had nice soft moguls today though the exit is a bit different this season (actually easier). Platti isnt open and needs a decent dump to do so but it often doesnt open until January and some seasons not at all. The top part of the Kandahar Kapall black needs more snow to open but the surrounding pistes all are in decent nick. Didnt go to Rendl so cant comment on there. Plan to go to Zürs tomorrow, was told that conditions in Lech are not so good.
Didnt see Gunar last night when I wandered past the Murrmel, I believe he is still bashing out toons though there is also another musician who was sharing playing duties with Gunar last year.

Thanks - sounds like he is only doing Thur/Fri/Sun this year so I guess this is why you didn't see him. He was on stage all 4 nights we were there last year (Sat-Tue).

Anyone done the Madloch ski route to Zug recently? Is it icy? Our friend is a great skier but anxious on ice. Thinking of doing tomorrow

@boabski, I am planning on doing Zürs including Madloch tomorrow too. Previous experience (which may not be relevant!) was that the only icy / hard patches were on the two steeper pitches towards the bottom, both have path alternatives off to skier's right. Would highly recommend getting the bus to Zürs, despite the pistes being fairly quiet today there was a big queue for the Galzig lift first thing

The time I took those paths I found them as uncomfortable as the main pitches and nowadays just take on the latter

@boabski,
Some pics of this week here:

You might consider skiing the classic Madloch to Lech instead of Zug (assuming both are open)
The Lech version is completely quiet and very pretty, no ice. You only need to walk a bit back into town. (and have a drink at terraces at Hotel Omesberg, Hus8 or Gasthof Post)
