Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

UCPA Early Arrival

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello,
I am looking at booking a ski trip through UCPA. Since this would be my first time in France, I'm looking at airport transfers with companies like https://alpinefleet.com/
They are scheduled on Saturdays, and UCPA is Sunday arrival (they have mentioned a small text about early arrivals). If I could have my stay start from Saturday at UCPA that would be great, but I can't find anything on the site that would let me do that.

Does anyone know how I can go about looking at that? I've emailed them almost a week ago but haven't heard back.

If you book through Action Outdoors rather than direct from UCPA, the trips are sat-sat. Even on the french UCPA website you can still choose the early arrival which costs an extra €75, but this is not available for every centre. To choose this option you will have to confirm all your details first before it pops up, but before you pay up.

When booking direct through UCPA you just need to select ‘arrivée la veille’; if I recall correctly it’s under ‘suppléments’, after you’ve chosen your room type.

@Riaa2311, Which resort are you going to? For sake of saying Action outdoors (the UCPA uk agent) can offer a transfer from Geneva to flaine for £68. Plus it is for 7 nights not 6 as standard.

As above, they generally offer Saturday arrival (mainly for non-French guests) use Action Outdoors or it's an option via the French UCPA site as above. For the small difference in price (as a long term UCPA user) I've found booking using AO worthwhile for the cost difference compared to a direct booking, with the exception of booking very early and getting the French UCPA discount. Would help to understand the resort and airport (assuming Geneva).

If you book through Action Outdoors you get Saturday to Saturday as standard. You also get a 1/2 a day lift pass on the final Saturday if you have a late return airport transfer (I don't bother because I usually have an early transfer and it is a bit of extra hassle/stress).

If you arrive early enough the ski shop will be open for a bit in the evening on Saturday so you can pick up your skis and lift pass on Saturday and be able to get first lifts on Sunday.

On Sunday there are no lessons apart from for the absolute beginners group so it is just a free ski day for most people.

Most Brits/Swedes etc. tend to arrive on the Saturday. The French tend to arrive more staggered over Saturday and Sunday as they come by a mix of car/train/bus and as you have found if you book through UCPA directly they have to add on the early arrival.

I have used Alpinefleet for the past 4 seasons and they have generally been fine. If you are going to Geneva, the shared transfer desks by arrivals is always organised chaos on a Saturday (pro-tip, if you have a bit of a wait for your coach go on a short walk to the train station. It is much quieter with more seating and there is a supermarket right at the end of the station if you need supplies). The different shared transfer companies are pretty much the same. If things are working smoothly then things are fine for all of them. If something has gone wrong (staffing issues at Geneva arrivals, accident on the motorway, bad weather etc.) then it will just be luck of the draw when you get to the resort.

I have used Ben's Bus before as well which has been fine as well.
