Guess I'm curious enough to see what my baseline level is to try it if anyone has a guest pass and a Carv 2 to loan on the EOSB. |
I’ll have a couple of spare sets with me and (practically) unlimited buddy passes so no problem at all.

He’s not making it easy for you, he had another go with the Carv’s today and took it more seriously. Still not the best conditions or equipment, but he’s raised the bar slightly to 169.

Our weeks road trip is over, so no more improvements from Jnr to my ranking until next Christmas. He took the Carvs out on 3 days and believes that edge angle is all important. Also right at the end he realised that slope gradient had a large impact on ski IQ. On the same run he had almost exactly the same scores for every category, but the first and last third of the run the turns were around 165 IQ and the middle third were around 174 IQ, the difference being the middle section was steeper. So next year he wants to find as steep and consistent a pitch as possible.
He also never got to try out the CARV in moguls, his specialty, so hopefully we’ll see how they get scored next year.

Sorry if this has already been asked but is it possible to give the sensors a little nudge/reset mid session.
I Did a few runs today, got to the bottom all sweaty and impressed with myself but one side of the turns came back with like 30 degrees less angle.
My lefts a bit weak but it's not that bad.
Any tips at all?

@dulcamara, yes - on iOS if you get to the screen that shows battery levels there is a settings icon top right , tap that then reset.same place you enable deep sleep

Joined the Carv gang - 3 days in - not ideal conditions here in Serre Chevalier but did score a 146 on our first day when pistes were reasonably groomed and visibility good.
Last few days it’s been a whiteout and snow on top of the piste - but interesting to pick up some tips from this thread.
Best I’ve managed since day 1 is a 131 but given the conditions (and skiing a pair of 90mm underfoot 18R black crows) don’t seem to be optimal for Carv scores!

Skis make a massive difference IMO. I was doing 145 to 150 laps on some slalom skis in the morning and when changing to some Kaestle FX96 slush buster skis in the afternoon (albeit not edged and in slushy conditions) was down to 130.

I was testing some skis out up at the glacier on Sunday ahead of a purchase for next season.
As I already have the Rossi M18s from a few years ago, I know what the new Rossi's/Dynastars willbe like, so I hired the Head e-race pro in a 175 which has a 15.8m radius, and I also tried out the 25/26 model of the Atomic X9S which was a 174 14.8m radius.
Conditions weren't conducive to my best skiing, poor visibility and some fresh snow, add in a mental hurdle I currently have following the big crash a month ago, but I really enjoyed the shorter turn radius vs the 18m Rossi's but with the same length. It felt closer to skiing my SLs but I felt safer in myself at higher speeds.
Back on the glacier over the weekend this weekend, and hopefully some nice sunny days to try and lay down some high scores!

I’m aiming to break the record for the lowest score ever recorded running the Carvs with my DPS Spoons 148mm waist radius: infinite…

Finally got to have a go on my CARVs myself this week, only managed to bump my score up a little to 148, but it was really soft and bumpy, so I think 150s will be possible in good conditions.
On skis, 2 of the top 3 CARV overall scores were on Kaestle’s, MX83 & MX88.

Way to go Swiss Bob some considerable style in that.
Somebody has to give all those carving wippety-snapperz something to underpin their outlook.

There's a place for everyone on the ranking I guess? Cheap hire skis, general lack of talent and a bit of a meh attitude earned me 117 in the 4.5 days skiing I managed in Tignes in mid April.
Must do better next time...

@larkim, remember that 100 is the "average" skiier, so 117 still puts you above average!

@nbt, interesting, so all the CARVers on here are above average skiers.......
|

less than 1000 of the 50,000 CARV users worldwide have an IQ of 100 or below, so either people who buy CARV are above average skiers or the CARV system sets a low bar for what it calls 'average skiing.'

The average CARV user is unlikely to be an average skier... the score is normalised to the latter, not the former.
If you are investing in the sensors and a CARV season pass you undoubtedly care enough about your skiing to have spent time trying to perfect your art. That sets you apart from the average skier who is mostly likely the one week per year holiday crowd who does a few runs and then gets pissed on Rose in the Folie Douce.

True, but having skied for a couple of days at Easter with complete beginners and had to pootle around green runs, the standard of skiing needed to get 100 is very low.

The leaderboard is also based on each skier's highest score, not their average run. A skier with a maximum ski IQ below 110 or 115 is quite likely to be getting closer to 100 on their average run.

I really hope they change the metrics so that they provide a best 10 turns rolling average / total run average.
It is annoying when you have been skiing well but then have your average drop due to terrain or other slope users getting in the way at certain points. The only solution is to ski in shorter controlled bursts at the moment if you really want to get your absolute best PB SkiIQ.

Also, I'd like to get added to the leaderboard with a 141. I did a season in Morzine and using carv with a couple of lessons, I managed to improve from 125 on my first day out to a 141 by the end of the season (helped by empty, smooth spring groomers!).
As others have mentioned, the score is really helped by making smooth turns at higher speeds on steeper slopes. One thing I'm not sure about the ski IQ is how much of a benefit regular/rythmic turns are versus varied turns shapes within a segment.
I've tried sending a PM to KenX, hopefully the screenshots worked to claim my score.

Well I failed in my mission to try to borrow a pair of Carvs but I'm fairly confident I could have scored a solid sub 50 on the run when I solidly powerslid past ski school snakes before pivoting into a counterslide. See also the rollover where I got at least 10m of sideways action before reluctantly engaging edges as I dropped into the next pitch.

Failed in my quest to get Grim Ripper this season after the French military intervened (separate thread).
I leant my sensors to my daughter (on one of the free pass things). On her first day with them she managed 145 on her Whitedot Altum 94s. To be fair she was just back from her Uni ski trip where she had been highly focused on teaching all the boys who had insisted showing her their (very mediocre) ski videos* what real skiing looked like so was in good form but still - have pity on her old dad really! It was quite interesting though that her strengths and weaknesses shown up by the sensors were very similar to mine. Clearly I have a lot to answer for!
*It has been annoying her all year - some sort of weird mating ritual involves:
"oh you ski?"
"yes I love it"
"I ski too. I'm quite good actually. Hang on I've got a video on my phone"
(mental, and knowing Amalie, quite probably a physical, eye roll)
"oh yeah, looks fun"
Naturally being female she doesn't feel the need to share her ski videos but had been plotting a little humbling for months

Just renewed my Season pass for next year with the offer code £159 instead of £199...
I could have sworn I paid £150 for the season pass this year but can't find the receipt.
Fair play to them for doing offers like this, helps smooth their cash flow over the year as well I'd guess!
