Hi Folks,
All of the car hire firms at Geneva airport have truly awful reviews. I use Alpy transfers when I ski in Chamonix but this time I need a car to travel to Annecy, France.
Anyone got any suggestions for hire cars at Geneva airport?...or..as a last resort a fairly priced taxi company. Cheers

People only even post reviews when things go wrong, so it's no surprise that the review sites are full of dreadful reviews.
I've personally used Europcar, Avis and Hertz this winter from GVA (Swiss side), and all were fine.

@Clarkey, All? But it’s usually the people who have had bad experiences who then complain. All of the mainstream ones ones I’ve used over the years have been ok, not wonderful but not disastrous. Just pick one (on-site & Swiss side to get winter tyres and/or go on price), carefully check the t&cs, take pix/vids of the vehicle and off you go.

I've had no trouble hiring cars on both the Swiss and French side of Geneva airport, over a number of years. When are you going? Snow tyres are unlikely to be relevant between Gva airport and Annecy but it's only a hop on a bus - google it.

Guys,
I've been hiring cars from airports across Europe for 30 years+. It has never been the case were literally every single one of the hire car providers gets 1* on trip advisor. Consistent testimonies of charging for fictional damage (ranging from £500 to £3k) regardless of pre use photos taken and additional insurance in place..why hasn't a single person said anything positive, if indeed they had a positive car experience? I appreciate your feedback etc. but need to have a good think about it! Ta folks

@Clarkey, like others here I've been hiring cars from both the Swiss and French side of Geneva airport and never, ever, had any problem. But then I cannot be arsed to put reviews on Trip Advisor that say "everything went as expected"
Winter tyres are not required from April 1st and probably will not be supplied and I doubt whether chains will be required either.

@Clarkey, Altibus goes via Annecy - maybe they can drop off/pickup on the way?

Never had any problems hiring from Geneva airport, usually use Sixt, Avis or Enterprise.

Because 99% of people (me included) who are satisfied with a car hire experience won't feel the need to go online and report that.

Just looking to rent a car in Geneva next month and the agregator comes up with a company called Keddy which is less expensive than the others. I've never heard of them. Has anyone used them? One review said that didn't allow cross border travel, but Argus car hire doesn't mention this. Incidently the Swiss side is less than the French side this time.

@johnE, it's Europcar's budget brand. Never used.

We've hired cars from Geneva hundreds of times over 30 odd years. Not a single problem to report .

Buy excess protection insurance cover if you are so worried - but buy it in the UK before you go. I pay only about £60 for an annual policy .

Just booked with Budget from the Swiss side of Geneva airport and only after I'd paid did I get the terms and conditions and on page 8 they say that there is an extra 76.67 CHF to be added to the bill to enter France. There was no mention of additional chagres when I booked. I now see why the Swiss side was less expensive that the French side (even including the possible purchase of a Vignette). Bug+ger, caught again in a scam.

@johnE, assuming you booked direct with Budget: a) you can cancel at no penalty, and b) in my experience the Ts & Cs have always been available at booking stage.
If you used an agent then you've potentially experienced a downside of that channel.

Rather a swingeing assessment of the world's largest car rental company, care to elaborate ?

Try rentalcars.com which are part of booking.com. There are loads of cars available from GVA with hire companies who have feedback > 8/10.
I've rented dozens of times from most major airports, and in particular Geneva. Never had a problem that wasn't my fault.
Avoid anything super cheap and, as others have said, take photos of all the bodywork and the mileage before and after.
Top tip - when you use a search engine take screen shots of what is promised. In some places, Italy typically, you are promised snow chains but the hire company tries to give you socks or even summer tyres. It's really useful to be able to show a screenshot showing what you were promised when you pressed the button to hire.

I've always found the car hire companies on the Swiss side at GVA to be excellent and never had a negative experience (other than being unable to find the parking break on a new Volvo I was given).
I have normally booked direct but have also found Holiday Autos to be excellent when a company (not at GVA) attempted to impose a charge for something that I had already pre-booked).

Also had great experiences with all care at Geneva, to include Hertz and Budget. Not left a review.
Absolutely no issues to book IMO.
