Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Thank you! So useful… half term is not looking as bad given Paris is not on holiday and the first week in Easter is looking like a great week to go!

Is Paris really such a big deal? UK half tern week there are two zones off at the same time, one being the most populous (B) and the other the one with all the cities in close proximity to mountains (Lyon, Grenoble), i.e. more likely to have avid skiers. On paper it should seem like a busy week too, but happy to be educated on this.

Austria is also looking quite busy, for HT with Fasching (Bavaria off), UK, NL (C+S, most populous area), and most of Switzerland

I can only comment on the ski areas I've done seasons in (3 Vs & Espace Killy), but yes, it is.

Yes, it will be busy but if it were 2 zones including Paris it would be so much worse, at least in the French part of the PDS.

How big a difference – in terms of piste crowdedness, road traffic and prices – does the French Easter holiday make if skiing in France? Not as much as the February holiday, I know, but is it still something that's worth avoiding?

One clarification - February holidays in Sweden should include week 7 (Gothenburg and surrounding areas i.e. second largest region after Stockholm). Won't have a major impact on numbers in the Alps of course, given how few people live here Laughing

@Dave_raclette, the French Easter holiday is basically irrelevent. It‘s nothing like February half term or New Year. I often ski one of the Easter weeks in France, it‘s a great time to ski. Generally an earlier Easter will be busier than a later one (mainly due to other countries holidays rather than France!) but it‘s still quiet compared to the Feburary holidays.

Thanks, folks! Most of my previous holidays have been in France during the UK Easter hols. It's just that I've never been aware of whether the French schools are open or closed at the time.

Just back from Arabba. First time in Italy for HT and was interested to compare with Austria which is the normal destination. Pleased to report that it was great. First Saturday in Alleghe and it was quieter than I've seen out for the PreBB at the end of Jan - no queues at all.
The rest of the week was around the Sella Ronda with some carefully chosen side routes. Alta Badia was the most popular area, along with Belvedere and there were queues at Biok and Piz Sorega but nothing really worse than I have seen at other times and they are easily avoided. Alba/Pozza was very quiet, as was Sante Croce, and we only did the SR Orange once but found only one queue on the Pradel bubble (~ 5 mins).

I know that this HT is going to be quieter than 2026 as Carnivale/Faschings is late this year but I would book Italy over anywhere else for next year.

@turms2, +1, we always go to German-speaking Switzerland. Empty slopes this year with few German holidays, but looks like we better not get used to it

this is a report from the Carneval Week in 2003 in S. Tirol....in some pics you see that is really overcrowded...but probably better as some other resorts in France or AUT

i suppose if you stay away from Sella Ronda it would be ok...

@JoeSchmoe, I spent a week in Saalbach during the World Champs and found that the resort was generally quieter than normal and the races acted as a magnet for people, meaning that the rest of the area was even quieter for most of the day. I think the the alpine events are in Bormio and Cortina which are fairly disjointed areas anyway, so the races should have minimal impact on other parts of the resort.

Most of the UK's February half term is all in one week. Some years, some areas have their half term a week earlier or later, but not every year.

"OK, thanks. It's definitely not ideal, but it is what it is.
In such a case the carneval week is the same with the two zones in France, and the Half Term from UK.
That means : either we leave this week, or we have to search something out of the path in France or maybe another countray.
Austria and S.Tirol are also out of the game...

Will be really difficult

@turms2, the smaller resorts don't seem to suffer as much at peak times. Consider it a chance to explore several in the same valley. There are many to chose from, for example:

I’m also looking for a Feb half term option, no choice for this trip Eh oh!

Dolomites seem quite booked up presumably due to the Olympics.

Any thoughts on the Italian Alps at this time? Cervinia maybe? We do want a biggish ski area. I know there is Carnevale as well.

Explore many resorts in one week is not an Option für us since the Kids are Stuck/ Obsessed with ESF badges etc.
So we have to stay in a resort for the week.
Furthermore i need esf competitiion course for my Sohn, meaning some small resorts are out.
Dont ask why but as long as the Kids are excited with the whole concept and they can wait for this, i do not want to change it.
At présent its all open.
If i book eg Avoriaz for Christmas i maybe Hit the Button for the pds season pass, meaning looking somewhere there for half term with low expectations of course.
Otherwise i maybe Look something like val cenis or montegevre for HT.
To other Option leave HT , book a week for Christmas ans easter and heading again one Week end of May
26 May - 6 june we have also school holidays in germany. Heading this week instead of HT Looks also nice
