Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cervinia transfer from Milan

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi. I’m planning on going to Cervinia in January. Can anyone recommend transport options to resort from Milan. From my searching it looks as if Milan Malpensa may be the best airport to fly into. I will be travelling alone. Thanks for your advice and suggestions!

Turin is marginally closer than Malpensa but not much in it so go with which flights suit you best. Hire car is cheapest option even for a solo than any transfer company (of which there aren't many due to car hire generally being cheap in Italy). Keep checking car hire prices as they will often go down a month or so before you go.

On a similar note, can anyone recommend a private transfer company from Linate airport to Cervinia?

We're a family of 5 with skis, so hiring a car is not feasible.

@SkiFrogger, Malpensa has lots more flights than Turin and it’s only a little further away.

There is a bus option. You change at Chatillon, which is the town where you come off the motorway and go onto a mountain road. It wasn’t very frequent on the day we did this.

We would have had about a four hour wait on our trip so I went for car hire. This wasn’t entirely smooth (see midway down the first post: https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=172904) but was very cheap. I haven’t had any extra charges since returning the vehicle.

I've had luck with contacting the hotel where I am staying and asking them to recommend a local taxi company to do the transfer. I find that the rates are competitive and often lower than getting a car/van service from the airport. I also find that the drivers are better at navigating the windy roads in to and out of the mountains. Also, the hotel wants happy guests, so they will make sure that the pick-up goes smoothly. It is often cheaper in Italy to hire a car for the ground transfer. Just depends on whether driving an unfamiliar car in unfamiliar surroundings, often at night, in winter weather sounds like a holiday to you.
