@AliAfro, I would expect Geneva also problematic as the track from Bourg-en-Bresse is not high speed?

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@under a new name, neither was Lyon to BSM in the Eurostar Ski Train days. Just slows things down - the TGV Lyria does that section at the moment

It sure is! Sounds like Zurich would be about 5h15 - so arriving at 3.15pm for a 9am departure. Could get to a lot of resorts in time for ski hire & dinner from there.

@doorman_tom, you've got to love a Swiss minister called Mr Rosti. I hope there is a Ms Tartiflette too ...

Maybe not in time for hire shop, but there’s tons within 2-3h. St Anton, Andermatt, Engelberg, Laax..

I suppose the advantage of train journey is you can take your own skis for no charge? Eliminates the hire shop stop.

 And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

majority of people (at least that I know) from Britain do not own their own skis, and instead rent. This route would make sense overnight as currently the only overnight services you can get to the alps are coach, flights stop early in evening and don't start till 6am departures, meaning you can't get to pretty much any resort in the alps before lunch.

@under a new name, would't it take the TGV route to Lausanne and then only have to trundle 20minutes round the lake?

 You know it makes sense.

@leggyblonde, good question. Perhaps??

@leggyblonde, TGV to Lausanne takes ~40 mins longer than the Paris-Geneva train as it is, so I'd have thought not?
@joshyp, sadly there aren't any sleeper carriages that work in the Tunnel - there was a plan for some back in the day but they were all sold off to Canada. So any overnight train would be in seats like the old Eurostar Snow train...
I've taken my board on the train a fair few times - tends to fit perfectly in the overhead storage!
