 Poster: A snowHead

I was planning on introducing my two kids (5 and 7 year old) to skiing in France. We are wanting a family friendly resort with decent snow and activities to keep the kids occupied. I was thinking about La Rosiere, but was wondering if this is a good option?

We first took our children to La rosiere when they were 6 and 3 and they still enjoyed it many years later as teenagers. It is a good option for Christmas as has an excellent snow record and they do a nice Christmas event in the woods between Les Eucharts and the main village. It also has good skiing for beginners.
We used to stay at Les Cimes Blanches apartments which are very good. Then Hotel Aperana was built and the apartments there are even better with access to hotel facilities such as the restaurant.
Both residences have decent wellness areas with pools, hot tub etc
Alpen Lodge is also a high end newish residence but I think Alparena has the best location.
The only potential drawback is the lack of trees on the french side of the ski area. When we were there for Christmas 2019 there was a bit too much snow and visibility issues. The link over La Thuile is also sometimes shut due to high winds but chances are you will always be able to ski some days over there.
If you are looking to go with a tour operator I’d recommend Peak Retreats. We have been to La rosiere self drive and by train with them. As it’s your first time taking the children taking the train would be a relaxing way to travel and avoids the long airport transfer. It is a pity there is no longer a direct train but I think it would be ok changing at Lille.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@JFraze, welcome to sH’s
From personal experience, I’d think La Ros would be a great starting point to introducing your children to skiing. It’s almost perfect for families, IMO. At c1800m, there shouldn’t be too many concerns around snow/levels of snow at Christmas.
snowymum’s suggestions sound good….I’m not sure I’d take the train with a 5 and 7 year old, to be honest. Not with the amount of gear you may take. I’ve both driven and flown with a TO, and have skied there four times (weeks). I do recall having to dig the car out several times over the course of a week! The nice thing about driving is not having to lug a load of stuff around and being less concerned about baggage weight etc etc.

La Ros is a great ski area for you and for the kids!! And all that the San Bernado area has to offer.
We went a few years ago and the children skied with Evolution 2 and came on leaps and bounds. Jean Luc may well still be instructing - he is a local legend!!
I think the lifts will have been updated quite a bit since we last went - the poma to La Thuile was an event in itself!!
We stayed fairly central in La Ros, once catered and once self-catered. We could easily make it back for lunch at the apartment.
Actually Les Eucherts rings a bell...
We went through snowfinders.co.uk - it's worth giving them a call and see if they can put together a package for you. They are usually able to be quite flexible. We have used them a few times before.
We went later in the season, Easter time I think. There was still quite a bit of snow.
The St Bernard's stuff is fun for the kids and plenty of bumpy bits for them to attempt through the trees etc..

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

La Rosiere is a great option for kids of that age. Not too big, lots of green and blue runs, south facing for winter-sun warmth.
We've stayed in Les Eucherts and the proximity of the ski school, lift, and shops to the accommodation is a real winner.

The link to La Thuile is still a long, double poma.
