Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Your comment got me wondering...

Are there (m)any cases on here where the wife (or female partner) loves skiing but the hubby (or male partner) doesn't? Puzzled

I’ve some friends like that in RL but AFAIK they aren’t on here!

@Jlowrycorry, pretty sure it would be - Ecole Sainte Marie - its not private in the sense of a UK school just can’t be state because of the religion factor (Catholic). Not sure if they charge more to visitors but when we lived there it was a couple 100€ a year

@C_mackenzie, where did you search for accommodation options? Is the place you are staying in coming available around October/December this year? Eh oh! .

Have you met any people who might be up for renting out their place this coming winter?

Skiing is more important than a child's education.

Do it.

Both are possible. I teach at a school where the kids get to ski one day a week in the winter. Most go and ski at weekends with clubs too leaving plenty of time for parents to ski without their kids. In fact, I’ve told a few parents off for coming into school in their ski pants when bringing their kids in in the morning. Rubbing it in that they’re going skiing whilst I teach their little darlings should be banned.

A 6 month tourist visa is readily available from the French embassy in London for about £100 if you can show sufficient funds to support yourself.
We used the 90/180 day Schengen scheme as we had plans outside the EU for Christmas and Easter. This still allowed us to stay for two full school terms from early Jan to early April. It might be possible to stretch this by arriving for the start of the season and then leaving for a few of the busiest/most expensive school holidays weeks to make your 90 days last until the Easter school holidays.
Plan for the school holidays (particularly the February ones) as this can be a chance to either get a solid block of skiing in, or to travel around France to escape the very busy resort. We did a bit of each, one week of group lessons for the kids with ESF, and one week visiting nearby towns like Annecy and Geneva.
For more information from locals, there was a couple of good Facebook groups for Morzine residents and seasonaires that had quite a lot of good information about events, activities and living in town (once you ignore the daily requests for airport transfers and last minute ski lessons). I'm sure many of the resorts will have similar pages.

Cheers @C_mackenzie. I will have to look into this more! I know I need to do my own research but do you/anyone else know if there is an Italian equivalent?
I realise this is hijacking this thread a little but it could be relevant for a family ski season which is often longer than 3 months. I’m hoping that is ok with all!

For the school, we were at ecole St Marie in Morzine, the lunch (cantine) fees were more than the school fees! They have another campus in Dampens which might work for some.
The AirBNBs we used this year aren't available for the coming season.
The kids had plenty of chances to ski. School is only 4 days a week (Wednesday off) and they were able to join the local ski club with ESF for two lessons a week all winter. On addition, each term at school, they had a week of ESF lessons each morning as part of their school day!

Sorry for latching on, but has there been reduced French visas the past year? I am hearing a fair few people got rejected and they don't explain why... I am suddenly nervous as this will be my third time getting an EU tourist visa, and the people I know all got rejected on their third attempt after have two years approved all fine...

lift passes which all add up.

Globally in France, season lift passes cost less than 2 weeks of lift passes. So the adding cost is "marginal" from a 6 days lift pass.

As exemple, at La Plagne this season:

- 6 days 348eur
- 7 days 402 eur
- season 716 eur

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Also, if you are organised, many resorts have early bird sales for season passes before the season starts. Eg. PDS is ca. 25% of of you buy before the end of September, and you get a free child season pass with every adult pass when you buy an early bird adult pass.
As a result, a family of 4 could ski all season for <€2000.
