Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'll second that in terms of Tignes (and Val D'Isere too)! I'm there now. Snow cover at altitude looks more like January than nearly May Very Happy - though there is full cover of soft snow on runs down to 1,800m at Val D'Isere. And the slopes are practically deserted too.

Swimming in the mountain lakes today, earliest I've done it although I used to swim in the sea at Bournemouth in April.
@weathercam has probably been kite surfing.

I think we can bring the curtain down of 24/25 now , thank you very much to all those who have contributed from our very own weather geeks to the troops reporting from the ground . I wouldn’t have said it was a vintage season but I was lucky to be around for the cold powder just after new year and the end of Jan snowfalls. Once again a mild winter and very dry in the eastern alps, I think this seasons sweet spots have been the corner of Aosta where Courmayeur and La Thuile nestle , the Pyrenees this March and the Dolomites have also faired quite well . The other major highlight of course was the monumental record snowfall in the North West Alps mid April not necessarily for the skiing but more so for the surprise created and great pictures circulated .

I’ll kick off 25/26 later this summer.

Not sure I'd entirely write off 24/25 just yet; there's been some snowfall in the past few days across the Alps (I'm mainly looking at Hintertux and Zermatt) and there's some more 15-30cm forecasted for the coming days; weekend is looking warmer unfortunately, but sunny and not very windy (= good vis and low chances of lifts being closed). Hintertux currently has 27km of open slopes and Zermatt had 40km yesterday (now only 11km but I suspect it may be due to wind).
I'm really eager to go but sadly it may be tricky due to other plans... but for those of you who live in/near the Alpes, I'd seriously entertain a visit at least for one day. If you do, let me know what I've missed...

Yeah, I saw that too... a pity, but I think their winter season was supposed to until May 5th or something. In any case, the webcams look great and you can see a decent added layer of snow compared to Sunday.

Been waiting for all the ducks to line up for one last hurrah, and yesterday was the day.

Perfect freeze/thaw conditions, Galibier road open to the snowline, but not to traffic as they're still clearing it further up, so e-mtb to 2,300m, stash the bike and then climb to a ridge overlooking La Grave / La Meije at 2,850m (left of photo below) and then one very nice lush ski down in perfect Spring snow.

Snow initially was horrendous at 2,300 with the rains of late having pitted the snow with loads of craters on the flatter terrain.

The weather has actually been pretty bad all of May, having to take one day at a time, trying to second-guess the myriad of forecast models, none of which ever seem to be right!

And the grass with all the wet weather and then periods of sunshine, has been going bonkers!

We've had very few opportunities even to consider Spring ski-touring, it's only been the last three or four days where we've had more settled conditions, and now this week is again more unsettled.

More about yesterday and Ullr coming really up close (caught on video) with a marmot in the ski-tour wallies thread.
