Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Easter ski this Saturday (April 19th '25) - will Les Arcs be worth it?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi everyone - I really need some advice whether Les Arcs will be worth booking as a last minute trip this Saturday around Arc 2000?

I was looking at Val Thorens again orginally but have found better deals at nicer hotels in Les Arcs 2000.

Snow seems due in the next couple of dsys but there are some lifts closed at present which is a concern.

I have a fairly new skiier with me and would prefer easier blues for them.

VT, Tignes, Les Arcs and La Plagne are my current 4 preferences and any advice is most welcome!

Thank you Very Happy

@K2Punk, Some of the lifts will be closed for operational reasons such as Droset and the Plangnettes. Others may close due to unexpected shortage of snow, but I would expect the main runs in Arc2000 and the top half of Arc1800 to be open. I've done this week before in Les Arcs and have had good snow but also rain. It varies from year to year. Provided you are prepared to accept that the snow will not be pristine and possibly quitting at lunch time you can have a good time. I have in the past. The important thing is to relax and enjoy what you have and not be upset by what you don't have.

The last Saturday of the season can feel a little odd as many reataurants and bars will close for staff parties and they will be pulling up piste markers more or less as you pass them (or before)

I suppose it is because it is Easter but the flights are much more expensive this year, (if you can find them) otherwise I'd consider going myself.

Thank you for the helpful reply JohnE - my partner isnt the best skiier and is more looking forward to the hotel spa and sauna and I am as well to an extent but would still like to get some laps in until maybe 2pm.

Do we think the snow due this week will have a positive impact on lifts/pistes staying open or is it still going to melt away?

I've been checking every snow report and webcam at varying altitudes and i feel like i'm going round in circles.

Other options are Val Thorens and Tignes but my partner has her heart set on a hotel in Arc 2000 for the Spa and good reviews (and price due to our budget) - we thought about EOSB but she doesn't feel comfortable sharing.

VT and Tignes seem to be much more expensive in comparison this year as we have left it so late to book.

We did La Plagne 2 years back in April and it was great considering end of season and same for VT last year but i'm struggling to mskr a decision this year.

Yes, it does look like a lot of snow tomorrow and Wednesday which is promising!

Given the choice, would you opt for VT, LA, LP or Tignes or are they all going to be similar?

@K2Punk, if the weather forecast is right (see below) there's going to be lots of new snow in Les Arcs by the end of the week, more again on Sunday/Monday and then low temperatures for this time of year through next week. And the blue runs above Arc 2000 are great for less confident skiers. If I were in your shoes I'd go for it.

I find Meteociel pretty good for weather forecasts in France:

I thought it was and it looks like good fun but I feel the sharing with others has put her off it. Sad

It all looks great and I looked into it but I think its the thought of sharing with others that is the biggest worry unfortunately - we both have some anxiety issues and may feel a bit out of place/nervous. Sad

It does look promising for the snow this week and thank you for the links!

Les Arcs is the compromise we have come to for the mix of hotel/spa/sauna and skiing thats within budget even though i'd prefer higher at end of season.

La Plagne looks like its getting more snow than Les Arcs and on the live map, appears to have more runs open already (the interactive map on Paradiski website).

We considered Plagne Villages/Belle Plagne along with Arc2000/1950 but its tough working out exactly which pistes/lifts are still going to be running for ski in and out.

All have plenty of skiing at 2000m + so all good options. All close together.

If you like the accommodation option at 2000 just go for it.

There has been a lack of precipitation the last few weeks (I was out in 3V last week and had none) so the law of averages suggested a late dump.

Where it will make a difference is a) where slopes on the margins were getting worn and b) will just generally make the slopes more pleasant to ski.

I was hoping this would be the case and we could bump into the EoSB in restaurants and bars if we went to VT.

We are trying to use Sunweb again for the 3rd time as everything except transfer is included which lowers the stress levels - VT options are very sparse and look a little bleak this year this late on.

On other sites, the nice places are just out of budget until we look towards La Plagne/Les Arcs.

Im so deep in on the search, its now hard to see the wood for the trees! Very Happy

Les arc 2000 itself has had a little rain the last few days and grass is showing in the village center. Freezing point was showing as 2300 for a few days. The upper blue slopes have held up pretty good though, hopefully the temperature drops and the promised presipitation appears wed/thurs/fri. Today we skied from top of Transarc down to 2000 via Plan Vert and detoured onto the border cross race track thing. Pistes ok and Arcabulle busy but not horrendous.

Still not chosen and between LP/LA, Tignes/VDS and VT but struggling to find something decent above Tignes 1800 which looks a bit barren at present.

Just had a quick look and its a fingers crossed scenario it seems.

Les Arc looks like it has a lot of runs and lifts closed since yesterday which could be because of avalanche risk for the next couple of days going off the live map.

Can you advise if the lifts and runs are closing over the next few days due to avalanche risks?

The interactive live map shows a lot of closures since last night even up high around 2300m and I think it could be a temporary thing for a few days.

Belle Plagne looks nice for my partner who is a beginner and if it had adequate places to eat and drink, i'd be keen to visit.

Friends are in 1950 this week. Lifts shut entirely today in Les Arcs, lessons etc cancelled. Ste Foy over the valley confirm only the magic carpet will run, no other lifts - half the team are stuck down in the valley and can't even get ot SF as the main road from BSM to Tignes is closed to snow with treees fallen and a landslises. Given then amount of snow fallen I'd expect avalanche risk to rocket as it will have fallen on a well compacted layer so they'll open stuff wth great caution

Ok, so it’s absolutely bucketed it down with snow over last 24hrs. We’ve left this morning to well over a metre of snow. Taken 2 hours to get down the roads as lots of fallen trees. No one seemed to be coming up.

Not sure what they’ll do with the lifts or what will be running.

Belle Plagne is a lovely spot. As its end of season, some food and drink spots may be closing but we had an Airbnb and took our own supplies. There’s a decent spar in the village.

The avalanche risk must be sky high at the moment. After weeks of sunshine and freeze thaw the snow surface is smooth and slippery then put new snow on top and it must be sliding off like waterdroplets on a hot iron. Shame the flights are so expensive at the moment.

That sounds really heavy snowfall!

It looks like everywhere is shut at present and its tricky to see when it will resume.

It looks very nice in Belle Plagne and access to other slopes/lifts looks good but this recent dump has made it tricky to decide!

I hope you had a lovely time Very Happy
