Obviously things are liable to change, as Trump's mind is liable to change (!), but based on where we are now I can see some big effects on ski kit.
The great majority is made in China, and for USA based markets the 146% tarrif (I think.) will make it unviable to import and sell that.
So the USA market will probablyly absorb 100% of USA made kit, and a very significant part of the European produced kit.
Europe does make quite a lot of skis and boots, not as much as China though. I'd think that almost all ski clothing is made in China, and Vietnam?
So Chinese manufacturers will have lost the USA market, only left with Europe for quantity, and I can forsee some "dumping" going on.
There might be some bargains for us to be had.

@rungsp, I wasn't aware that many skis and ski boots are made in China, a quick internet search came up with this AI reponse:
Many major ski brands, including K2, Line, Volkl, DPS, and Liberty, have their skis and/or boots manufactured in China. While some brands have production facilities in other countries as well, like K2, according to a Reddit thread, China is a significant manufacturing location for many ski and boot brands.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
K2: A significant portion of K2's skis and boots are manufactured in China, with some production in other locations as well.
Line: Line Skis moved production to China, although their design and prototyping are still done in Washington.
Volkl: Volkl skis are also produced in China, along with other locations.
DPS: DPS skis are manufactured in China.
Liberty: Liberty skis are also produced in China.
Other Brands: Many other ski and boot brands also outsource production to China.

I follow some trade wonks who have been discussing how this might play out:
One option is that China is left with a whole load of stock that it would have sent to USA but which now becomes surplus so it dumps it cheap on rest of the world markets - and to clarify it isnt chinese manufacturers that do the dumping, it will be the brands/distributors around the world that need to offload the surplus kit. This is only likely to happen for products that are already made or too late to cancel - Where they can brands may simply hold of producing stuff for next season unless/until things settle down to a sustainable end point.
The other possibility is that brands raise the rest of the world price, either to subsidise the US market, and/or to make up for the profits it will miss out on. Not skiing related but Sony has announced that it will raise the cost of Playstations around the world, while it suspends orders to US for the time being.

A number of different models of Sony (and some Sigma) camera lenses seem to be going out of stock or are being withdrawn from pre-order at the USA’s largest photographic retailers. I’d guess that Sony are waiting until Trump stops flip-flopping (might be a long wait) until they can’t determine their retail prices after Trump’s import taxes imposition.
I won’t buy anything which has parity with USA prices if manufacturers try to cover the cost of Trump’s tax-raising spree by increasing rest of the world prices.

But this is the end of ski season in all of northern hemisphere. New stocks won't appear till at least mid-summer or early fall, I thought?
It may impact the "end of season sale" of leftover stocks though.

@abc, I'd bet that almost all of next year's kit had been ordered from the Chinese manufacturer and deposits paid.
It's a Flippin nightmare for the brands!
As an aside I'm surprised that DPS manufacturer in China.
such a USA identified niche brand

We shouldn't be buying stuff made in china, it's destroying industry round the world, their human rights record is appalling and their environmental record is just as bad.

Well observed, if I may say so.
These societys (collectively referenced as 'West" ) all but addicted to consumerism. The focus should be on can we ultimately continue to afford this ? How many more country can we expect to bring on line for cheaper manufacturing to sate our desires ? Many wanting EVERYTHING to not then make intelligent choices by real value to them.
Even 30 yrs ago or more, it could be seen in supply chain of less than glamorous/front line products then being "outsourced" to China etc, being ultimately loss of any tangible control. Its no good blaming anyone else, consumers are addicted and really haven't cared at all about this effect. Now everyone seems so righteously and indignantly vocal about USA inc.
It's easy to blame somebody instead of looking at their own behaviour.
If you give all of your money to China, eventually China will call the shots.

It's a major thread drift but I don't think China is unique in this respect.

Dentists will just put up their prices to compensate.
IMV DPS have somewhat jumped the shark with Ligety and $2000 vanity carvers. So if they're being made in China and end up costing $3000 the only people actually affected will have more than enough money to blow anyway.

Correct. Just the Foundations. They were made by GP87 in Shenzen who also made some lines for Liberty skis. Not that that means poor quality, but GP87 were not adept with carbon and DPS incorporate carbon in all their lines now. I believe Vishnu and Ninthward are made at the same SLC factory.
Don't know what the outcome of the current financial problems at DPS is going to be. They reduced exports to Europe to maintain prices and have launched the Revival programme. It appears that DPS afficionados are not replacing their skis often enough and they do not want to compete at mass market levels. Thing is, they are exceptionally well made but who really cares about that? Not rental companies for sure. Disappointingly, DPS skis are NOT cheaper in Utah!
