Hi all
Can I ask you for recommendations for a family resort/hotel for a beginners family with Ski In Ski out or close to, a good Spa offering for Ms who is not so bothered by skiing.
Ideally with a few slopes that suit the beginners not the one valley run. So far I am thinking Obergurgl, and Ischgl as they can gondola up to Idalp.

@GarryC, Not sure Ischgl is ideal from your spec. not really a "family" place and can be faff getting to skiing with queues at the gondolas etc though advantage of good snow conditions at the beginners area. Obergurgl possibly good as very hotel based and not much else, downside is it can be very bleak in mid winter. Might be worth looking at Serfaus as very family orientated (though budget might be an issue), Saalbach offers something for many skiers plenty of spa hotels, if you have the budget look at Lech.

Thanks for that Munich Irish. The reason I am thinking of ischgl is the new Therm Spa. It really is exceptional.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

i think obergurlg (if you can afford it because you mean the new year week i think) suits better as ischlg...there are some really nice hotels with pools etc where the Mrs can be in the pool watching you coming down the slope...

@GarryC, I don't know if you're thinking Austria specifically, but Pila in Italy would work well.
I don't know/haven't stay at this hotel, but it seems to have a nice spa.

The Mrs could also gondola down to Aosta during the day for something to do.

@GarryC, There are fancy spas in many of the hotels and in most of the resorts, often more summer & spa business than skiing these days. I dont like Ischgl but the skiing is good, though it is gondola back & forth for beginners as the home runs are for experienced skiers only. From what little you have said it doesnt sound like the right place for a family / beginners trip. You might be better off with a much smaller old fashioned sort of spot like Alpbach or Seefeld there are nice spa hotels in both places.

@GarryC, I recommend the Hotel Kohlmais, next door to me, in Saalbach - ticks all your boxes. Directly opposite the lift station and nursery slopes, newly refurbished with fancy new spa/Wellness suite, and Snowhead “ribblevalleyblue” raves about the food.

Tatmanstours Great recommendation. Have been to Saalbach many times and love the skiiing and apres. The reason for this trip is I am bringing hubbie to Saalbach at end of January and his family have revolted insisting they too should be skiing- hence the family trip on 3rd January !!

@GarryC, sounds like a great excuse to come twice, buy a season pass, and save money on a third trip.
