Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What do people think of Bovec / Kanin / Sella Nevea ? We're advanced skiiers/borders. Are there any other resorts you prefer?

I have passed my summer holidays 2023 in Bovec.
It is a beautiful region for outdoors sports.

Unfortunately, the cable car from the valley floor (500 m) to the skiing area (1700-2300) is closed.
And will never be re-opened again. Because it is too old, dangerous, and cannot pass certification again.

Correct only the Sella Nevea (Italian) side open nowadays. The Slovenian side permanently closed. It was never very big, so now is half the size.

Its quite a wide ranging rest of your opening post / question. If you've won free flights to Klagenfurt Airport it might be worth combining Sella Nevea with Kranska Gora and Girlitzen for Tri nation long weekend skiing, which ranks quite high in novelty value alone.

Yes, I prefer Monterosa, Valloire, Val Cenis, Serre-Chevalier.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks! Quite wide ranging yes - looking for recommendations for solid Italian resorts that are snow sure and good for off-piste! I heard Sella Nevea/Bovec was great - but maybe too small now that Bovec side is closed?

That is much easier to answer.

Piemonte west can be epic, but only after a retour d'est.
Bardonecchia (medium size, Argentera (small) and Prali (small).

Aosta valley is best.
La Thuile, wide open spaces, including heliski on the Ruitor.
Courmayeur Punta Hellbronner, but dangerous.
Gressoney is epic. Alagna too (but limited in bad weather).

Madesimo is epic. But currently the jewel in the crown is closed, and will not open again until rebuilt.

Livigno, also one of the highlights. Cold, good snow quality, wide open spaces.
Santa Caterina Valfurva, also, but much smaller than Livigno.

Arraba is good when there is sufficient offpiste snow. Unfortunately that is relatively rare in Dolomites.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! I've been to Monterosa and it was great! Any recommendations in the North East of Italy?

Dolomites and Trieste is dry (low precipitation), so not good for offpiste, unless you can decide 2 days in advance.

Livigno is excellent, and dependable.

I you want to go east:
