Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Gilly28, We have also used Holiday- Shuttle a couple of times for a private transfer if there are three or more of us, their current pricing for December is €190 for up to 4 people, it's definitely quicker to have a private transfer, as you don’t have people being dropped of at their hotels.

We haven't used the post bus as suggested by @Mr.Egg, but know of people who have and said it's very reliable, you connect in Maishofen to the bus up the valley, could be a handy way of checking out where the nearest ski bus stop is to your accommodation Very Happy

done both bus and train worked fine and economical ,all depends on your flight times, bit of a faff on train as you need a bus or taxi either end , bus is more or less direct if its still operational ,main thing is getting to resort before 3pm to take advantage of the pass freebie

Thanks everyone, Holiday Shuttles seems to come up a lot. Would be happy to do bus, I like an adventure, however, maybe not so much for an early flight on the return journey!

Ever thought of renting a car - seems to be cheaper than a private transfer; I've hired several times at Salzburg and Innsbruck. I have an Alamo booking in February from Salzburg for around £200, though you'd probably need a bigger car than I am hiring (a ford focus size).

Update form Saalbach on the opening 4 December for locals (and second home owners) 13 December full resort opening

DEAR FRIENDS OF SAALBACH HINTERGLEMM!

Big changes and challenges have shaped the last time. Covid-19 affects our lives worldwide. Safety and the personal health of every single person are - even more so than before - in the focus as the greatest asset and also determine the way our tourism companies think and act. We build on the ordinances of the Austrian Federal Government, which provide extensive measures to protect all guests and employees.

GENERAL LOCKDOWN UNTIL DECEMBER 12, 2021

As you have probably already learned, due to the current situation, a general lockdown will again be prescribed throughout Austria from November 22nd. This should end on December 12th. For us this means that the originally planned start of the season will be postponed because accommodations and restaurants have to remain closed. Cable cars and may open during lockdown for skiing in compliance with the 2-G rules and an FFP2 mask requirement. We are currently assuming that we will be able to reopen the entire tourist offer from December 13th.

Planned start of skiing in parts of the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn on December 4, 2021
Of course, we support the decision of the Austrian Federal Government and we look forward to welcoming you again soon on our slopes, in huts, restaurants and accommodation and doing what we do best: Fully motivated to make sure that You have a really casual vacation!

REGULATIONS FOR THE WINTER SEASON 2021/22

A general 2-G rule applies throughout Austria as far as possible. We summarize the most important information here. Please note that all information on this page reflects the current state of knowledge of the last change date listed below to the best of our knowledge.

Basic information and definition of the 2-G regulation
The 2-G rule is fulfilled by anyone who has been vaccinated or recovered (with a vaccine approved by the EMA for the EU) and can prove this accordingly (Green Pass, etc.)
Vaccination certificates are generally valid for 270 days (this will likely be reduced to 210 days from February 2022) from the date of full immunization with a vaccine approved by the EMA for the EU. Note: If only one dose of the Janssen / Johnson & Johnson vaccine was administered, this is no longer considered to be full immunization from 03/01/2022.

Recovery certificates or official separation notices are valid for 180 days. The past infection must have been proven molecular-biologically.
Officially convalescent are considered vaccinated within the meaning of the 2-G regulation from the time of the first vaccination with a vaccine approved by the EMA.
Exception for people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons: A medical certificate in connection with a negative PCR test (max. 72 hours old) is valid as proof.
A pure antibody detection without evidence of a vaccination or previous infection does not count as 2-G detection.
Children up to the age of 12 do not have to provide their own proof
Children from the age of 12 must provide their own 2-G certificate

In which areas does the 2-G rule apply?
The 2-G regulation applies in practically all tourism-relevant areas such as accommodation, restaurants and mountain railways.

Where is there still an FFP2 mask requirement?
An FFP2 mask must be worn wherever no 2-G verification is required. This affects customer areas in essential and non-essential retail, public transport and museums.
Conversely, the FFP2 mask requirement does not apply wherever only people with 2-G verification meet.
In cable cars and ski lifts, an FFP2 mask is required despite the 2-G proof requirement.
In restaurants you have to wear an FFP2 mask as soon as you leave the table.

Mountain railways
The mountain railway companies rely on a comprehensive package of measures for your safety. Organized waiting areas, hygiene and disinfection measures, employee screenings and much more ensure the highest possible level of security. You can find all the details about using the mountain railways in the Safe Together area in the ALPIN CARD ticket network .

What counts as proof of recovery from infection? PCR result via email? By the time we travel my wife (and potentially I if the 210 day rule comes in) will be beyond our second jab dates but both caught it in October so would be within 180 days of that.....we were both fine BTW!!!

@riman8, me and Mrs B-H are in a similar position for a trip in March (our late Jan trip should just about be ok on 210, although 210 is the last day of the trip!). I'm hoping boosters will resolve it for the second if they role them out lower down the age groups.

I think for the recovered status you need something like the QR code that has appeared in the NHS app for my positive PCR test (I've assumed you are based in the UK). Worth saying the .gov.uk travel advice for Austria also shows from the UK to avoid having to isolate on arrival you need to be double vaccinated so the recovery status is not enough for borders. There's the huge thread on current travel situation to Austria too, which has some useful info, if you have a spare week and fancy a read Very Happy

@riman8, @TomBH, Hi, I suggest you have a look at the entry to Austria thread, though as you aren't going util February Marc there is a good change that the rules might change as it still a while away, plus the booster programme is likely to be stepped up , it's not sure if the 210 day rule will come in, 2G will continue after the lockdown ends.

Also check the Austrian Embassy site https://www.bmeia.gv.at/en/austrian-embassy-london/travelling-to-austria/coronavirus-covid-19-and-travel-abroad/

Calculate your 270 and 210 days, I posted a calculator on the Entry to Austria thread. Don't assume 270 is 9 months Toofy Grin

@radar, indeed at first I was very relaxed as we were all good for various trips on 7/9 months..... fingers crossed everything falls in the right way and we get out there and tourism gets most of the winter season.

just had a look at hotel availability and its almost unheard of to be able to get accommodation in feb by leaving it till now but there seems to be a reasonable amount and with reasonable cancellation terms

@ski for fun, All restaurants and bars will be closed until 13 December, take away is a possibility both in resort and up the mountain, not sure if anyone is doing it.

The 2G rule will continue to apply from 13 December, if your are not vaccinated you can't stay in a hotel go to a restaurant or a bar, you second injection cannot be more than 270 days, may change from 1 February to 210 days

With accommodation my view is that some have held off, some have panicked and cancelled already, we are sold out in February and that happened a month or so back, we have a week in January left.

Your proof of recovery from infection should be in your NHS app as part of the Travel Pass

Thanks for sending this. This will be my tenth year to Saalbach but for some reason I've never stopped at Soulhouse, usually going up to Bauer Alm instead. Will be definitely be giving it a try now, so thanks!
