Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skins!! Before putting skins on a new Phantom base, remember that DPS specifically say you should do a few laps on piste to bed down the brand new Phantom treatment, before using skins. It‘s to do with conditioning the new Phantom base with the friction from snow crystals. This will prevent the skins leaving glue on the base.

@combin, or anyone else who knows, I applied Phantom 1.0 to my skis some time ago and due to illness/Covid they haven't been used since. It looks to be not impossible that the Chilterns will pick up enough snow for a slide next week, presumably even a full day of mucking about on UK snow/grass isn't going to be enough to bed them and I should not use my skins?

@rambotion, coincidental that this should come up today. I was just reading this https://www.wildsnow.com/29023/glide-bases-wax-dps-phantom/

It goes on a bit but still sheds some further light.

Interesting sounding stuff. But waxing is only 1/3 of a ski service. Edges and base repair are quite important. I hot wax my skis with an iron pre season, but they invariably go into a ski shop for a full ski width/length base squirt of ptex and edges after 4 weeks or so. I find that a slow hot wax taking several minutes on each ski till I can feel the iron heat on the top skin results in a waxing that lasts several weeks before a grey patch appears.

Just caught up with this thread.

Seems the jury is still out reading the discussion at the bottom of @HammondR's link.
