Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Here too. No rain though so cars not covered, just a few yellow spots on them. Not unusual get at least one per year.

Never thought about this but what is the implication of a stand storm on the snow pack layers - does this end up causing an instability or does the sand create a nucleus for the next snow fall to bond onto the older surface?

Seems particularly bad this time. I don't remember seeing the mountains go quite this shade of orange before !
Very eerie it is up here still... does anyone know if this was forecast ? Or how long it will last... ? I feel like I'm wearing tinted goggles in my own home... it's making me feel vaguely seasick Confused

Unfortunately, it forms yet another weak layer.

Bollox didn't see this thread before I posted in the piste.

Controller at the XC today said Neige de Sable and so did my neighbour who was out teaching the Penguins on XC, and again Sable was the term, and she said never quite seen it so intense which is also what a mate in La Grave said who confirmed it would be another weak layer to add to the already FUBAR conditions.

Link to French weather site and article about it.

Now we go into "Wait and See" mode to see what happens next vs forecast, good news is that temp is dropping.

I have also had pics from Tim the brewer in Bourg. Looks like a very heavy one.
But it will mean more problems for avalanche risk assessment. I recall 'discontinuity layer' appearing in the Bulletins last time. And it will persist for some time. So more danger out of protected areas.
