Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cervinia question - ski lockers?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi there folks,

Am heading back to Cervinia for a couple of days in February and can't remember if there are any ski lockers for rent either at the gondola station at the bottom of the slopes or alternatively up at Plan Maison station?

Would anyone out there have a clearer memory of the place that might be able to enlighten me? If there are lockers, where are they and how much do they cost per day / where do you reserve them?

Thanks - all replies gratefully received

I've not been for 5 years I think but I remember them being at the Plan Maison station - they took a 2 euro coin back then.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Alexandra, Thanks for that Alexandra - I had a vague memory that there were some good facilities up at Plan Maison but I haven't been there for nearly 10 years and it's all a bit hazy!

yep, there are lockers at Plan Maison. If you're wanting to avoid the walk in full kit from the village up to the base gondala, there is a new-ish drag lift that takes you up from the village learners area high enough to drop back down to the base station, then ski back down to the village at the end of the day.

Thanks Dr John, one of the memories that i do have is doing that trek in full kit ... which was never great. were you there recently? what did you make of the place? i know that it does divide opinion - personally i have good memories of my short trip back in mid 90's and am hoping that rose-tinted glasses are not in operation!

any suggestions - runs/eateries/bars?

been there twice, most recently 4 years ago. Something for most people, but black thrashers will have to head over to Zermatt, in fact everyone should head over there for at least 2 days in the week (if the high gondola is open). Best run is the Ventina from the top to the bottom, long and varied enough to be worth of many repeats, and if you don't mind the treck back you can break off it to the left for an even longer run down to Valtournenche (about 4 drags back so a bit of a phaff). I stayed in the Des Guides hotel which is perfectly good and has a decent bar. Apres we used the Copa Pan which has a nice relaxed atmosphere and were welcomed as locals from the second night, use the Dragon Bar if you fancy something younger and more rowdy. Plenty of good reasonable eats, including a top class steak joint, the name of which escapes me. All in all it's a very good place for mixed abilities and not too much of the hairy chested show-offs you see at other places. Pick any mountain restaurant for lunch, all very good.

Excellent - thanks for that - the Valtournenche trip i wanted to try as i missed that last time around - thought that they might have gotten rid of most of the drags at this stage (bar the one at the top) - is it worth it in your view? (i hatttte drag lifts!)

much appreciate the information - thanks again

I think you can get back by one gondola, couple of chairs and one, perhaps 2 drags. Alternatively, get the bus back to Cervinia, about 15 minutes, as opposed to 45 mins on the lifts. It's worth it either way, lovey run
