Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just got a new passport well in advance of the old one expiring. (Unbelievably easy, quick and efficient to renew online.,)

From the linked page

"Traveler’s passport must have been issued within the last ten years
Traveler’s passport must have a minimum of 3 months validity beyond planned stay in the Schengen zone..."

Nothing new here -- I always thought you need a minimum of 6 months 'life' on your passport when travelling abroad

@albob, not for travelling to other EU countries. It is currently valid right up to the day of expiry.

@albob,
This I think ..

2.If you renewed a 10 year adult passport before it expired, extra months may have been added to your passport’s expiry date. These extra months will not count.

Yeah the 6 month rule certainly applies for Malaysia. My 12 year old daughter was refused entry despite having 4 and half months left on it before expiry.

Had to make an on the spot decision at Heathrow airport to fly to Thailand instead where they are more lenient.

Although I think some airlines stipulate having 6 months life.

Airlines always check this before you board because they have a legal obligation to return the passenger immediately at there own cost ......

That is why they refuse you to board id you do not have the 6 month or whatever minimum requirement.

Timatic is the source that the airlines use for these sort of things. It's helped me every now and then.

Surprise! EU-bound Brits will need new passports after ‘no-deal Brexit’

If the United Kingdom leaves the European Union with no deal on October 31, British citizens planning on traveling to EU later this year may have no other option but to renew their passports this week.
UK travelers with current passports may not be able to fly to EU immediately after Brexit, because some passports will not be accepted for travel to Schengen Area countries such as Italy and Spain.
British travelers would be subject to existing rules for visitors from non-EU countries that require passports to have been issued within the past 10 years and have at least six months’ validity left on the day of travel.

wrong, only those who have less than 6 months validity once they are due to exit the country. Pretty much standard when flying to lots of places.

Not necessarily. For once I think stanton is (partially) correct. The UK generally issues new passports with an expiry date 10 years after the previous expiry date rather than 10 years after the date of issue. Anyone who applied for their current passport more than 6 months prior to their previous passport expiring will reach a point when they still have 6 months validity remaining but fail the "issued within the last 10 years" rule. As things stand, with a no-deal exit, at that point their passport won't be valid for travel to the EU.

Be aware that the expiry date on a UK passport is no indication of the effective expiry date for travel. Yes, that's what I said. My wife recently checked hers on the

https://www.gov.uk/check-a-passport-for-travel-to-europe

Gov.UK website (BEWARE: There are intermediaries that come up on a Google search who will charge you extra for the same service). In her case, she previously renewed well before the expiry date (due to travel plans). But the 'spare' months on the previous passport, while added to the passport's expiry date, are not carried over for the purposes of validity to travel (go figure).

She thought she had a year to expiry - she only had 6 months, which with planned trips, means she had to renew pretty much now. BTW the online passport renewal process turned out to be pretty straightforward and worked very well. I passed this on to a few family and friends and at least two of them found they needed to renew sooner than they thought. So worth checking.

How would that even be possible as we are still in the EU?

@stanton, I thought that about the 10.5 years. However, now the UK only issues 10 year from date of issue.

OH passport renewal done from Mon online application and send off old passport to 8 days Tuesday, yesterday, receipt of new one. Well done HMG, real efficiency. Less said about the number of photos that are rejected online - allow yourself an hour for selfies. Year ago when I renewed mine I went to happy snaps and even their pictures were rejected.......whereas the selfie seemed to work fine.....

I too have believed until recently that, after a no-deal Brexit, a passport would have to have at least 6 months validity for it to be valid for entry to the EU. However, a week or so ago I read this document from the EU which says only 3 months validity is required (in Section 2). Who knows what is right?
