Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Great report - and rings very true to me. The quietness of the pistes is one of the key advantages - when I've skied elsewhere I've always noticed the difference! Glad you enjoyed it - you certainly made the most of your time. snowHead

There is a high tech self cleaning toilet at the bottom of the main chairlift in Crest Voland. Fairly sure the one at the top of the Legette chair in Les Saisies is conventional too.

@pam w, thanks - it might well be from your posts that I noticed the Espace Diamant in the first place. If so, then we're very grateful Very Happy

@rjs, Legette one is a dry toilet. But yes you are right about the Crest Voland one - I'd forgotten about that!

Again - great report that gives A great summary of the area. Do you have any photos of your favourite pistes, mountain restaurants?

Yes, probably. Because no British TOs go there (a huge advantage IMHO) an area the size of Kitzbuhel (but better linked, I think) is virtually unknown amongst British skiers. Though every French person I've ever met has heard of it.

@Stenmark, thanks. Yes - plenty of photos. I've just got round to uploading some of them onto the relevant days' posts, so take a look if you want.

@pam w, interesting that it hasn't caught on in the UK. But we're not complaining Very Happy

Great report and gives a good hint at why we have been skiing there since we stumbled on the place during a summer visit back in the late 90’s and thought it was worth a winter return...long before the ED was established.

Stayed in Praz, LS and NDB too. Genuinely something for everyone piste wise and a great place to intorduce kids to the sport and mountains as ours did at an early age.

The family that own the Intersport are lovely and i seem to remember they own several apartments themselves dotted about the village.

Will be skiing across the pond this Easter subject to a successful back op tomorrow but always enjoy looking at the webcams and am missing a visit..been a couple of seasons now.

@skinutter, agree with your thoughts about something for everyone (unless perhaps you only like steep runs). Les Saisies struck me as an excellent spot for beginners; lots of intermediate terrain elsewhere.

Yes, the same family seemed to own the apartment, Intersport, ski school, one of the restaurants and more!

What a superb trip report. We spent Christmas week in Les Saisies a few years ago as a family and loved it. It’s a town and area we are familiar with from summer holidays so booked everything DIY and had the best time. I love that it’s not a touristy area where holiday opererators book. We will return one day for sure

Great array of pictures there @denfinella - you certainly saw a lot of the area during your stay, and sampled a range of restaurants. Most of your piste pictures are characterised by having absolutely nobody on them! snowHead

@jirac18, thanks, we loved it too. Great skiing and, as you say, nice and un-touristy.

@pam w, we actually joked when taking the photos that the pistes always seemed to get busy just as we took the camera out. So a lot of the time they were even quieter!

Are you sure the Près run is only an itinerary? It's marked as a proper black on the piste map.

Some months later ...

Great write-up @denfinella - we must have been there about the same time.

My understanding is that itineraries are now illegal in France. They have been removed from the 3V, Les Deux-Alpes etc as a result. The liftco would be in some trouble if it advertised the run as a piste and failed to patrol it. So I'm guessing Les Prés is indeed a piste - ungroomed, no doubt, given its length and likely steepness. Has anyone skied it?

@onapairofmissions, thanks. Did you have a good time as well?

Interesting to hear that about itineraries.

We actually skied past the start of Pres. Indeed, it appeared to be a fully ungroomed piste - and it was open. But it was covered in 20 cm of fresh, then melted, then refrozen snow, so I think it would've been a nightmare to ski!

@denfinella, yes, but only had two days - one a snowstorm, the next blue sky. At least they were the right way round. I certainly plan to go again.

I didn't notice Les Prés at the time, either on the ground or on the map. On our second day it might have been fab - but we wouldn't have had time, in fact.
