Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val Mesdi (Dolomites) question..

Hi all, anyone done Val Mesdi off Sella Ronda? From top of Pordoi is skinning essential? I.e. can you boot pack it to the drop in with normal alpine gear or is it too far/not possible?

Thinking of booking a guide for it when out in few weeks but got no touring gear and frankly can't be bothered hiring any! (Also, knees can barely cope with kick turns!) but a reasonable walk no probs..

It’s a bit of a hike but mostly a skate from the top of Passo Podoi. Skins maybe needed following a heavy snowfall but you wouldn’t be going into Val Mesdi if that was the case wink Cracking run although the skiing’s only technical at the top. Mellow after the first pitch.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Sharkymark, Cheers, will hold of booking until can see what conditions likely to be like nearer the time..

2nd thoughts, may as well book as if there's enough snow to make Mesdi dodgy there'll be plenty of decent off piste from the normal lifts!

Just posting to agree with the chap above.
Me and the missus walked the first uphill bit from the col and then slithered the rest on a fairly flat traverse.
It was great.

Many thanks again to whoever on here gave me the info.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

In a "thin" year the ski out can be interesting, as you're following the stream out at the bottom which can be a bit icy, but shouldn't be a problem now.

Fantastic run: enjoy the experience snowHead
