Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Giro tuneups

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Im getting bad withdrawl all of a sudden so am on the war path to cheer myself up!

I got a giro nine helmet last season and didnt bother with the tuneups because i figured it would be unsafe since i hadnt been on the slopes too long. But I have started to get a bit bored with the sound of silence while I board. So Ive been looking at the tuneups thinking i might get a good deal in the off season. However, im not entirely sure if I can see what is so good about them..... what do they do that I couldnt achieve with my own headphones?!

All the best

Adam, what they do is replace the ear pads of your helmet, so don't affect the helmet fit or comfort.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Looked at getting tune-ups when I first got my giro 9 but they didn't have them in the store. Since a couple of "near-misses" on the slopes which I only avoided Shocked after hearing shouted warnings/sound of someone losing control/carving up behind me, am definitely not going to bother, but everyone to their own. Very Happy

Thanks WTFH, I am wondering more on the functionality..... like are they actually worth the money above my standard earphones?

Type23, I was of that opinion too but (yes this probably is more reason not to cover my ears!) I go with family, none of whom will contemplate the slopes I find fun. I have no interest in most of the dull greens so end up skiing on my own and it can get a tad lonely with no background noise! Also, given my preference for blues and blacks, the slopes are very often quiet so not too much worry of lots of people.

Thanks!

buns, do your earphones reduce surrounding noise? If so, DO NOT WEAR THEM! You need to be able to hear.
Many would argue that if you are skiing in open terrain, then you should only be listening to music etc when riding the chair (and if you're doing that, it should be at a level which doesn't disturb the other riders)

Don't listen to music when in trees or off-piste, for obvious safety reasons. The only place I would say they are OK to use is in a terrain park where you are in a very controlled environment.

buns, Don't forget that with the Tune-ups if you get hot & want to remove the earpieces then you'll loose your music as well.

Point taken WTHF..... so do tuneups not totally block out surrounding noise? That would be good reason to splash out!

No risk of trees or off piste, id never contemplate doing that on my own, letalone with tunes!

Spyderjon...... im an alberta lover..... there arent too many instances when you get too hot!! Very Happy

Are standard tuneups going to be something that will be able to be picked up on ebay for sensible money? Im going to get a giro fuse helmet whilst in the US (they are $80 at the mo) but since the tuneup version costs $125 at best, i was hoping to just add the tune ups later.....
