Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Been considering a full face lid for really cold days and days when I know its gonna get a bit daft. Dont want to ski all the time with it as feel it may be restrictive and will inhibit my tan Very Happy

Anyone ski with one?

Prob consider a giro mad max or a fox moto helmet.

there's a feelig that they ay be dangerous. I have no idea if the tales are true, but I've heard there's a risk that in a crash, the chin guard could get buried in the snow and cause your head to be yanked around, breaking your neck

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

2plank, Any thoughts on the differences between the ski and bike version of the Mad Max.

Only thought could be that its more resistant to the cold or have less vents? Prob just a different colour.

2plank, other than the risk nbt mentions, there is also the annoyance of having to always drink through a straw or nozzle, of exhalation ice collecting on the chin guard, of not being able to see zips and things under your chin, of possibly significant extra weight on your head.

The warmth benefit from the full-face feature is minimal to non-existent, IMO, most of the warmth is from the thickness of the insulation within the helmet. With thick insulation also comes a weight penalty and reduced field of vision (you won't see slalom racers wearing them like that).

I don't think I'll wear my moto-style Boeri this season at all (unless a friend manages to fix his Skidoo or buys a new one).

Might just stick to the wee wee pot helmet then and live with the cold

2plank, you don't wear a balaclava underneath? Some of the extra thin ones marketed to cyclists are really wonderful as snow helmet liners as well.

2plank, I hate the neoprene ones as well. I usually wear something like this which generally protects everything except lips, nose and pharynx. For those -30 days I add a Pinch.

I have a chin guard for mine and it doesn't keep me any warmer. In fact I've stopped using it (it detaches).

I wear a turtle fur around my neck, and pull it up if it's cold. Works fine for me, with or without a helmet.

Hmmm . . . furry turtles . . . you didn't work in the porn industry back in the 70's did you Kramer? wink

I've never thought to ask about your gender but that might make a difference to your knowledge of bad slang.
